Preparation of the seed bed is 75% of the most important part of having a successful harvest for years in the future. That field looks mint. Happy farming!!!
Sitting here in my TP FarmLife Hoodie, having visited the farm shop yesterday morning after a trip round Yorkshire and Lancs! Lytham is beautiful. Back at home in Cambs now. Saw the Ginger warrior, but didn't interupt! Hello to all! Keep doing what you're doing 🙂
Love it when you do timelapse from start to finish Tom - looks great and a worthy investment for the girls. Fantastic to see you engaging local contractors' cos you need to get on, time is $$ and you're also supporting the local economy to grow your operation. Next task - getting the grazing paddocks up and running!! Then a shed for the equipment!! Great work Pemberton's
Preparation when planting seed is everything, with all that lovely manure it should do really well. Was surprised how dry the ground was when he was drilling the seed, all that ploughing helped with water dispersal. Am sure it's going to turn into your best field. 👍
I’ve literally just purchased a Mavic 4 pro mini drone. Just got to learn how to get the best from it. I’ve done the flyer and operator ID, so at least I’m showing responsibility.
A tip for setting your A-B line, don't do it whilst working. Drive in to the start point, mark A, drive to where you want to end up and mark B. Then start working from B back to A on the GPS, then move over to the next line etc.
Evening Tom, looking at all your machinery, trailers and implements on the fields, I think your next project should be a open front shed to store Them all in
It's like the Tom of old, running in five directions at once, but with great machinery and making big progress. That midden isn't big enough for your maize crop. FYI.
I agree with the Mayor, I used to work for hire joint and we used to get people sending back things not cleaned and it was so disrespectful, and the next time you need a hand, they might refuse you the hire.
When u do an AB line do a curved AB line forget straight ones if u don’t have a line set up just do a curved line then doesn’t matter how non straight your line is your second run will b spot on.
Ah, watching you muck spreading explains why the midden was empty for silage, guessing this is historically filmed I saw a short on a plough, was only 3 or 4 furrow, however, much like your rear mower sticks out to the side, this tractor had a front mounted harrow, working the previous ploughings, so the seed bed was being produced as the field was ploughted, not sure how economical that would be, over 2 separate machines covering a larger area Thanks Tom, hope family keeping well Geoff
They’re sewn shut so if you untie the end and pull out the under string, the loops pull out easily on the other side. Very similar to a straight stitch on a sewing machine.
Tom, have you thought of putting a castor/wheel on the front of the gate so you don't have to lift it every time? Saves your energy. Love your videos, from Australia.
i take the satelite dome ontop of the tractor wasnt working then also most tractor drivers use bout markers whilst useing gps just incase for some reason it loses signal
I am amazed how you can plow, harrow and plant when the fields seem wet always. I also wonder you can harvest any hay when it is always on wet fields. I realize it isn't dry hay like here in the midwest USA but it still needs some drying.
So when will we see the results? Will the first cut be the best cut or will it take a few cuts to really see the benifits? I’m excited to see the difference to the other fields that have been done
Farm down the road from me has just started to chop the maize but it is not in the best condition wet field with poor clay ridden soil hope your maize turns out okay.
we haven't run a 5 bottom plow in years, no till seed drill, when we did we would disc it with a seed bed roller on behind. , your scarifier seems to do a good job. We have to irrigate and that's even more fuel, raising cattle ain't cheap even on 40k acres
Mr Tom Lamb has a cool machine that levels the ground as he discs it, maybe he could help you flatten them filed ( but no doubt by this point in time the jobs long finished)
@@GRamerDim I’m no farmer so please i have no clue what it’s called but it uses gps some how and then has 4x boards that can go up & down = it grades the land flat, very smart how it does it, because tom lamb doesn’t hang around in his new S8 I think he was doing good acres a hour when he does it 😂👍🏻 hope this helps
Great video VERY interesting 👌🏻nice to see it jumping out of the ground after 2weeks!!! Maybe you can start some smaller paddocks for easier strip grazing next year 🤔🤞🏻😀 AND if your maize was to come out early enough try and reseed that!!! Seen it been done in 🇮🇪 but pending on weather + land quality 😁
When was that field last ploughed? Rotating didn’t help with ploughing by the looks of it… Good job done though, preparation is key👌🏻😊 22L/h power harrowing on our V G135. What’s the case drinking?
You don't need to apologize to us Tom, because you're worth the wait. What a great video, and the drone footage and music were brilliant. Take care of yourself 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I know it doesn’t justify to do it but my grandfather would always stand by letting ploughed ground lie untouched for a month or more, then sow it. He maintains the ground goes more like concrete due to the soil being wet. I leave it now too over a month but that just habit now
I have a question, Why is there always stuff laying all around the place? I mean is it just because you don,t have time or it's just not something important to you guys? Im so use to my grandpa farm where evetything is placed and organized so i'm curious to know why there is always stuff all over the place like the pile of woods for example, is in it more effycient to just palce them instead of throwing them ? Again, it's a question, im curious about the mentality difference :)
Why not use a tine harrow instead? A newer one that has a levelling cross board at front 5-6 rows of tines and a second cross board back make a great seedbed faster and with less fuel
Honestly if you ploughed it before spreading the muck it would of gone much better. We tried spreading on first and it just blocks up the plough. Plough straight grass shouldn't block a plough. But your learning keep it up👍
Best money you’ll ever spend Tom. Been watching you for a lot of years now and this is the first proper reseeding I’ve seen you do🙈 you need to make a big effort to do more, it’s as important as making silage imo

Loved the video always great work
no gps all markers nice driving by seeder farm is really getting better tom great work

We always rotovate the field before we plow and then we use a cultivator and you've got your seedbed

We need a ginger guy demo on how he opens his bags that well! I never understand and string open bags.

Nice to see a proper tractor driver using bout marking and eyes but again another informative video keep farming Tom

Need to put down crush run down from the main road up the driveway to the barn to help with the mud and water
They do have a big pile of crush that they could use right across from the new silage pits.
Just noticed the wood siding has finally gone up; bunker looks alot smarter now!
Have a look at Germinal high sugar abergreen seed next time you re-sow anything high sugar grasses will help your milk yields
No clover😮
I thought the ginger would have insisted on clover, better for soil structure, good for the silage, cows love it.
You need a leval eaven seabed grass seed only needs half an inch of soil to drill into and don't want the bed to drop into a bumpy field to mow etc
From my experience ploughing Switch Grass causes this trouble when ploughing? So it is a great idea to re seed this field! Many Thanks Tom!!

Good morning from New Zealand. Although it is spring we have major flooding and very high water tables.
Stay safe 🙏 we had that most of the year from last July so thinking of you all
Ive never seen you mole any fields it would be nice to see
Grass is already growing.

Wow that's a lot of work, just to plant grass. Great video and hasn't Tom's drone footage come a long way since the early days.

Classy drone footage. Excellent.
17.12... in 1984 I was shown how to correctly unzip a bag of seed.. 40 years on, I still can't get it right and unzip my dog food bags 😞
Hopefully you get some decent grass next year

you mite need to deep rip it to brake up the deep pan to get it softer and to get the stuff deeper in the ground to get better roots growth

What is the name of the song and artist you used at 4:29, please? Great song!! Shazam and Google music couldn’t identify it!!
141st! Tom, I GOT NOTHIN’. Roger in Pierre South Dakota USA
Do you still have those roller brushes for your cows? It was a great scratching pole entertainer for them. Hello from Adelaide South Australia
Non farmer question - obviously the spray only kills the current grass but does not soak into ground affecting new growth. What do you use?
Glyphosate most likely, kills with no residual effect.
If you don't have another clamp for the maize, why not bag it in those huge Ag Baggs? I've seen lots of videos of great corn silage out of those bags!
Apparently the big bags need to be laid out on a concrete pad which they don’t have
Tom you should have put a press on the plough
You should advertise the band/group who you use for your soundtrack
Shazam is a great app for that. The last title is “Don’t Want Anyone Else” by Companion.
Think you need to get your bucket brush on that concrete track
Did you make a maiz silage video? Best regards
Hi Tom
What’s the reason for rolling before powerharrowing? Doesn’t the power harrow undo the work of the rollers a bit?
Good Video. Why not leave it and put a break crop of maize into it next year?
When was that field last ploughed? Rotating didn’t help with ploughing by the looks of it… Good job done though, preparation is key👌🏻😊 22L/h power harrowing on our V G135. What’s the case drinking?

Cheaper to have topped the field before spraying off ?
Ruts were that bad we were smashing shear bolts!
Fancy machine u got for putting down seed

Tom how did the cows get on eating the citrus in the end ? I think I missed it .
How are your wife and boy doing. We haven't seen them in a while.
They’ve separated unfortunately.
Should have mowed the field pre dung application
How did the oranges work with milk production in the end?

Ya
Hows Jo?
You had a shout out on Doss farmes last night 👍🏻👍🏻
Hello Tom, Is it just a bad year or do you always have puddles around your farm? Keep up the vidios, love them.
how do u miss bits on ur second run , once u done a a , b line
will you do cost of reseed, like farm theory
Is this worth doing to other fields or was this the only one that needed doing?
Why would you pack a field before you work it up?? Just asking for a hardpan layer doing that
When are you doing maze harvesting?
Why not use a tine harrow instead? A newer one that has a levelling cross board at front 5-6 rows of tines and a second cross board back make a great seedbed faster and with less fuel
You are right but a power harrows does such a good job 🙈
A chisel plow wold have made short work instead of using a mole board plow, but use what tools are available at your disposal.
Plough..
Honestly if you ploughed it before spreading the muck it would of gone much better. We tried spreading on first and it just blocks up the plough. Plough straight grass shouldn't block a plough. But your learning keep it up👍
