  • This is my small offering, attempting to articulate and process the loss of beloved Queen Elizabeth.
Our natural tendency is to focus our care and attention on folks who are similar to us in some way (culture, ethnicity, gender, background, interests, etc). If it doesn't affect us directly, we tend to look the other way.
Since I'm Korean-American, I recognize and acknowledge my limitations in fully comprehending the depth of loss that the British people are going through. I did admire Queen Elizabeth and I followed her journey (from afar), but I know that pales in comparison with the citizens who lived with the Queen on the same soil for decades.
With this tribute video, I hope I can play a part in creating a ripple effect (in my own small way) to cross cultural barriers with compassion and interest. Even if I can't fully relate or understand or experience the depth of this grief (losing a dear monarch who was present through many generations), I always want to encourage myself and others to live with empathy (to sit besides those who weep and rejoice with those who celebrate, irregardless of their different background).
May this poem honor the Queen's legacy and pay tribute to her wonderful life.
