My oldest son passed away last year, too young. I have faith, but have likely also consoled myself by retiring early and adopting a couple of older HD's in the last year to rebuild and ride. Hey Mike got a question for you on early breather gears. I have one with a very small tit on it , where the washer goes, and all other have a large one taking the standard spacer washers. Not sure what years the early one (small tit) fits, vs the other types. Not many of the later ones have a groove in them, mostly S&S gears only. Is this normal in your experience? Thanks
These are the things that drive us nuts. I use S&S shims on S&S breathers. They are obviously designed to use their own shims. You got Knuckle breathers, no shims. I decided I wanted my Shovelhead (Late 77) to really breathe. I even machined out the breather hose fitting on the crankcase. I bought a new S&S breather gear, removed the screen and installed one of the Hotop ramp looking things. Standing behind the bike at idle, it would almost knock you down. I thought this was free horsepower. I run a primary chain on that bike and took a ride a couple three hundred miles from home. I burned up a new primary chain. The stock chain oiler no longer functioned. I put a stock breather gear back in and it was fine. That doesn't help you, but I couldn't help myself from telling you. Those little tits are early, the bigger ones are later and S&S has their own and supplies their own shims.

The stock chain oiler no longer functioned. I put a stock breather gear back in and it was fine. That doesn't help you, but I couldn't help myself from telling you. Those little tits are early, the bigger ones are later and S&S has their own and supplies their own shims.
@@pacificmike9501 Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I figured it was early, pre 77, but was in this 78 1/2 shovel motor(74"). I will be running the later one on this bike. But could not find any info anywhere, thus tap on another old guy like me, and thought you might have the answer. And you did. Thanks for taking the time Mike and verifying my thoughts. It never hurts to ask and always learning. Appreciated.
I watch you on your channel and I learn. I'm honored you asked me.
