I can drop some knowledge about the running in the halls thing for elementary schools (in the US). I'm the same age as Peniel ('93 liner) and a licensed educator who has taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. The reason we don't want kids running in the halls is: 1) Children have very, very poor motor skills. They are very bad at controlling their bodies. You'd be surprised how many kids accidentally headbutt a classmate running in the halls or at recess, knocking out the other kids' teeth. It's pretty gross. And someone ends up crying and/or injured, in which we have to contact the parents 2) If a child gets hurt, the parents will come after the teachers as if we caused it. We get blamed for so many things, we're literally the toilet of schools. That's why we try to preemptively nip it in the bud. 3) Running causes chaos and noise, where we don't want chaos and a little noise is fine as long as it's not disruptive (the noise part really depends on the teacher's personal ideals). But you give a 1st grader just a fraction of a chance to explode and disrupt the class, they'll take it and rip it open. A chaotic classroom is not a productive classroom and some students, especially introverts, will feel unsafe in the chaos.
Yes!! I’m a Preschol teacher and when they were like “why weren’t we allowed to run” I immediately thought of the chaos, incidents and angry parents!!!

When Leah said do y'all have memories that you're not sure are real or you just have been told them so much so now you depict them. YES! my earliest memory I have is this but reversed I was probably 3 or so and my family had a connecting flight to somewhere and I remember walking through a casino holding my mom's hand and then straight through some doors was our airplane I've always thought it was a weird dream my brain made up I asked my mom once if that ever happened and she said yes that really happened how do you remember that you were like 3 because I was still in the crib. This has become one of my favorite episodes it's so relatable I loved watching courage the cowardly dog or kids next door anyone?

I really relate to the person with lack of social and practical skills. I disagree with Ashley, Leah, Peniel, and BM about not developing skills until you move out. I think most people develop these skills at least by middle school.
