The heart of the path is SO simple. No need for long explanations. Give up clinging to love and hate, just rest with things as they are. That is all I do in my own practice. Do not try to become anything. Do not make yourself into anything. Do not be a meditator. Do not become enlightened. When you sit, let it be. When you walk, let it be. Grasp at nothing. Resist nothing. Of course, there are dozens of meditation techniques to develop samadhi and many kinds of vipassana. But it all comes back to this - just let it all be. Step over here where it is cool, out of the battle. - Ajahn Chah

It may be true that we're capable of never getting angry, being unkind, and basically not spreading all manner of negativity, at any time, with most people saying it isn't possible. But the difficulty goes deep: I suspect that at least some people would not even consider that aspiration desirable, because an unending peace seems or sounds stagnant. Some may say one needs the "negativities" as a part of dynamic, creative life. Were all those "negativities" or "impurities" to disappear, what of progress, what of creation? To many, I fear, the end of "suffering" sounds like the end of life. The contrasts, the drama, the pain and pleasure, though deeply inadequate, I grant, are fiercely clung to because they make people feel alive - and feeling alive to most people is more important than acting with consistent wisdom or intelligence.
