We can't possibly imagine the feeling of relief and awe of seeing this labrador retriever rescue individuals trapped underneath snow. What about this story inspired you the most about the work of a photographer or an avalanche rescue dog, or both?
Having done this myself I can tell you that when you see that dog nose break through the snow you feel incredible joy. Even though it is only practice, being buried in the snow is pretty frightening - you only hear your breath and heartbeat, no sounds from the surface penetrate the deep snow until you hear the glorious sound of the dog's paws scratching at the snow. And you can tell that the dogs LOVE doing it.

This is what my uncle has done in Colorado for decades now, when the dogs find too many deceased bodies they get depressed so he actually has volunteers go and get fake lost in the woods when his dogs are depressed and has his dogs go track them down alive to cheer up the dogs. It’s really important to them and keeps them from getting burnt out. Dogs have emotions like people and finding the dead hurts them like it does us
I read somewhere that the same thing happened in the rubble of the twin towers on 9/11. The rescue dogs were finding so many dead bodies that some of the rescuers had to hide in the rubble and let the dogs find them. ☹️
3:14 cant even imagine the relief someone must feel when trapped under snow and that cute face pokes through..it's like seeing a boat while out at sea and its driving towards you after your boat collpased.
He's lucky to have gotten such experience, with some safety precautions. I think, in real situations, just hearing the sound of a dog barking brings so much relied to whoever gets caught in an avalanche. Thanks National Geographic for sharing.
There are tears in my eyes just thinking about this hardworking doggo. Imagine how happy she feels when she finds people in the snow and successfully saves them 😭😭😭
@@boppob1343 honestly I found a lot of the narration dramatic, unnecessary and unrelated to the topic, I wanted a lot more of the story and a lot less of the person who wrote it, after all that's what I was here for
Huan Yamir most of their videos consist of facts, made up, exaggerated stories, I just saw an episode about a “monk temple practices”, I’m not sure if that’s the right description but yeah, its for the cinematography stuff
Can you imagine being at the brink of death and just as you're about to take your last breathe, you see a dog's nose sprouting out of nowhere saving you? What a sight.
When I saw that photo of the dogs face above him surrounded by the snow, my eyes immediately teared up. As a huge dog lover, if I were in a situation like this, the second I saw that face, I would know I was safe. Great photography. Great dog. Thanks NG.
Being buried in a avalanche is terrifying because if you start digging your way out you don’t know If you’re just going further down. So it’s really good to know there are dogs out there who can find a human
That was beautiful! These animals don’t get the credit they deserve. The photos taken from an avalanche victims perspective made me tear up. Great job by the photographer.
I’ve traveled all over the world, seen all kinds of amazing things. I still have the exact same thought I did growing up - a smart, sensitive dog is one of the most extraordinary things on this planet. Period. I’m grateful to people like this who try to show how profound a dog’s inner life can be.
What touched me the most about this story is the photographers desire to photograph the story from the perspective of the dogs heart, that was the story.
Karin Cervantes I don’t think you understand the meaning of sentience you also told animals in general so your gonna tell me a salamander has the cognitive intelligence to recognize its self or just preform tasks like ours. The dog sadly isn’t sentient (as of now) but it’s sapient.
I thought this was going to be a video about a dog... but instead it was about the struggle of being a photographer. I don't think the photographer could have talked about himself any more.
He look exactly my dog. he past away 5 days ago and i realy miss him. He didnt save me on a disaster but he save me from my loneliness. I wish he's happy now in heaven with my other dogs who past away a long time ago.
Cutie Pie i was JUST thinking about that! I was like “wait are Labradors and Golden Retrievers the same breed?” And then i looked back at my phone to search it and saw your comment instantly lol
Oh nooo, imagine having to have a little bit of a tough hike with cold fingers while being able to make a living by walking around in the most beautiful nature and getting a first-hand account of the training of such special animals. Woe is me!
As soon as I saw the BMW I knew this had to be a commercial. Not a trace of mess, dirt, or otherwise inside that thing. Demo just off the lot for this shoot.

Aw :c
That's so sweet but also so sad.
That's incredibly sad. I guess this is a problem for a lot of rescue / tracking dogs!
I read somewhere that the same thing happened in the rubble of the twin towers on 9/11. The rescue dogs were finding so many dead bodies that some of the rescuers had to hide in the rubble and let the dogs find them. ☹️
This is so interesting but also so sad
The human is lucky to have such a good friend as the dog.
dog dog dog dog
And the sad part is, some humans don't even realize it...

When you're buried for hours and you see a lab digging through.... Priceless....
Pets can teach us to be more human. Thank you for sharing this.🐾 NatGeo💕
We can all learn from these avalanche rescue dogs to be more compassionate and help those in need. Thanks for watching, David!
I wasn't expecting to feel such emotion from those photos of the dog looking down on you, wow.
I didn’t know National Geographic made bmw commercials
That was terrific! It's a pretty sad individual who actually has to be told that animals are sentient beings. Just saying.
Karin Cervantes most of the Western world... Well most of the world for a matter of fact.
Define sentience and what indicates a dog possesses that trait. An animal doing what its trained to do is not sentience.
I dont think they understand the definition of sentience.
Karin Cervantes I don’t think you understand the meaning of sentience you also told animals in general so your gonna tell me a salamander has the cognitive intelligence to recognize its self or just preform tasks like ours. The dog sadly isn’t sentient (as of now) but it’s sapient.

@American Pride nah
@Tuho I guess some doggo reaaly hurt your feeling. Or you are just psycho
Dogs are real though.
1:45 in and so far the video has just been a BMW advertisement and a photographer complaining about how hard his job is...
I want to see more acknowledgment of animal intelligence. From bees to elephants, they are all gifts from the Gods.
What a good girl! You can tell she loves her job, she looked so happy to be out there

On 9/11 the dogs were so sad finding dead bodies that they had to have human helpers hurry themselves in the rubble just so they could be happy.
Awesome to see that happy dog looking down into the hole!
