We can't possibly imagine the feeling of relief and awe of seeing this labrador retriever rescue individuals trapped underneath snow. What about this story inspired you the most about the work of a photographer or an avalanche rescue dog, or both?

Both are amazing
Having done this myself I can tell you that when you see that dog nose break through the snow you feel incredible joy. Even though it is only practice, being buried in the snow is pretty frightening - you only hear your breath and heartbeat, no sounds from the surface penetrate the deep snow until you hear the glorious sound of the dog's paws scratching at the snow. And you can tell that the dogs LOVE doing it.

This is what my uncle has done in Colorado for decades now, when the dogs find too many deceased bodies they get depressed so he actually has volunteers go and get fake lost in the woods when his dogs are depressed and has his dogs go track them down alive to cheer up the dogs. It’s really important to them and keeps them from getting burnt out. Dogs have emotions like people and finding the dead hurts them like it does us

That's incredibly sad. I guess this is a problem for a lot of rescue / tracking dogs!
I read somewhere that the same thing happened in the rubble of the twin towers on 9/11. The rescue dogs were finding so many dead bodies that some of the rescuers had to hide in the rubble and let the dogs find them. ☹️

3:14 cant even imagine the relief someone must feel when trapped under snow and that cute face pokes through..it's like seeing a boat while out at sea and its driving towards you after your boat collpased.
The human is lucky to have such a good friend as the dog.

He's lucky to have gotten such experience, with some safety precautions. I think, in real situations, just hearing the sound of a dog barking brings so much relied to whoever gets caught in an avalanche. Thanks National Geographic for sharing.

yeah the first half narration was a little too dramatic considering those exercises they did were extremely close to their base
@@boppob1343 honestly I found a lot of the narration dramatic, unnecessary and unrelated to the topic, I wanted a lot more of the story and a lot less of the person who wrote it, after all that's what I was here for

I’ve traveled all over the world, seen all kinds of amazing things. I still have the exact same thought I did growing up - a smart, sensitive dog is one of the most extraordinary things on this planet. Period. I’m grateful to people like this who try to show how profound a dog’s inner life can be.

Being buried in a avalanche is terrifying because if you start digging your way out you don’t know If you’re just going further down. So it’s really good to know there are dogs out there who can find a human
