Opening scene: Launching ICBM Elysium: Okay, so I'm going to build an anti missile missile, basically to take down ICBMs Let's put aside how incredibly coincidental that is, Later: I didn't know they had ICBMs! Why would you build an ICBM defense system if you didn't think the enemy had ICBMs?
Jerryfan271 while your 100% right, considering they just ICBMed a thing of tanks and a mobal Silo, if i was Styx i would be making some ICBMs to strike back, so having a Defense to this before it happens is the best idea, but thats just my thinking, you dont have to agree with it
Scott Manley had an issue with testing something along these line when testing "rods from the gods". The non-played ship's physics are updated less, so if you are going fast enough it wont catch that it was hit. I could be wrong, but it looks similar
Agreed, after some review I'm going to remove fails. If anything horrendously amusing comes up I'll do separate videos for them. Thanks for the feedback. :)
I really like these opening sequenzes, showing what's going on and giving some kind of story-like structure to every episode. but on the other side, the commentary in episodes of world war k 2 was more atmospheric I think. Amazing work with both projects!
I'm pretty sure you had it so perfect it passed through the center of your explosion, where there was no debris. That's what it looked like to me anyway.
Yay! Thanks man! I'm going to try and get out some more somewhat general videos this week to cover a few things and I hope you enjoy/like/fav/comment/feedback/give me all the YT ad. revenue so I can afford my bad-ass microphone... :P
Just do what you can, and I'm sure people would be grateful. I subbed at around 3,000 and that was just a couple of weeks ago, now you're on about 3,640. I really hope that you continue to grow at this current pace because you are a very good TH-camr, you're very entertaining.
Use [ and ] if within range... and if KSP is playing ball. In other words GET THE HAYSTACK PLUGIN. It is amazing. The dev hinted they might be including similar functionality in the future.
I double-checked, the reason I use the I-beams for this stuff is they are 80 resistance. Highest in the game. I think the physics just didn't bother since the parts were going so far they probably didn't intersect for long. :/
Thanks man! I just got a contract signed with Union For Gamers, con's you have to nput up with the occasional ad (sadface), pro's I can use the ad. revenue to buy more equipment (I may have jumped the gun on that one) and, if I am am really luck and you guys continue to be freaking awesome, I may even get to quit the day job! *day-dreams* Thanks for the subbing and persuading of the friends man, greatly appreciated!
If you want more inclination, do a bi elliptical transfer. Anything over 30 degrees you should do a transfer to a super munar orbit and do your inclination at apogee, since the delta V for the maneuver ends up being less for large inclination changes
With that cap thing, there was an episode of Curiosity on the Discovery channel that was a "what if" of an alien invasion. One way they demonstrated as a possible defense solution was that.
leading the target is what you missed on those attempts when you saw the target marker is when you should've hit the decouplers so the field wasn't so dense that it missed it entirely (as well as giving the game time to register that those pieces were in the way) and but not so spread out that some of the debris would reenter the atmosphere.
On one of my 0.18 saves I have a kerbin with 25 satellites in varied orbits. Yes, the airspace is VERY crowded. I also have 2 space stations and some geosynchronous craft.
The Royal Navy use a similar concept to defend against cruise missiles, the fire lead pellets into the path of the missile at a high rate of fire and the missile detonates prematurely, it's still a close call when they use this though.
Feel free to skip that part, however I'm leaving it in because a fair number of people have said they like seeing the thought process and the facts. As you said you can always just skip ahead. :)
No I haven't played with that much honestly. I have been tempted but it has had some issues and I haven't felt the need to add the extra difficulty to the somewhat ridiculousness of WWK. Maybe a hardcore playthrough yes. See what advice people on the thread have given, good luck!
True and tempting, we'll see. Problem is I can't really afford a reasonable webcam at the moment and 5,000 subs is looming awfully quickly. If not by 10k then I will at 10k but at 5k I'll have to see. Oh god, those numbers sound awfully big now...
Wanna know what could make this series about 10x better? The Kerbin City mod, styx, elysium, and the NAT can all have their own bases! Complete with launchpads or runways!!!! If you and the community want we can even develop custom bases specifically for the series!
Find the lazor mod on the forum, it has some info over there regarding them. I've dropped them from my mod list for the moment due to the lazor mod acting odd for me.
well in space you get a cloud of radiation and heat and yes many different results. I've looked into it on some docs in the past. What I did hear however is a nuke detonated in high altitudes would not only create an EMP but knock out various satellites.
Not at the moment, too busy to look over user crafts as well. Perhaps if I magically ended up being able to support myself off YT alone... ok def. then, but somewhere in between is a line, at that point hell yes! Sadly though I have to juggle RL to... :(
For the hell of it, i created my own map of the War K world. It not only shows the full extent of the Elysian Empire, with all her colonial holdings across the world, and the Styx Corporation, but all the other nations. Said nations who are obviously pissed that you and Styx are lobing nukes at each other. Seriously, the blast from the ICBM you used to destroy Styx missile laucher spead into another nation! If you want i could send you a copy.
P.S. In the 1960s the U.S. made an anti satellite weapon that was cheap. You made a few reenforced holes and filled them with water and then placed a nuke far under the tunnels. Last place some titanium caps on the holes and detonate the nuke. The nuke will super heat the steam so fast that the steam will launch the caps at atmospheric escape velocity like anti space ship bullets. It would be cool if you could find a way to replicate or represent it in KSP.
What if...the Styx ICBM cut through because of it's design? Look at it. Very streamlined and aerodynamic. It could have adjusted to slam straight through. Hmm...interesting.
Hey man I love the videos, so tense at the end there. Btw will you ever do a voice for the styx corporation? I mean you are the voice of the Elysium empire so if the styx had an evil overlord to taunt the Elysium people that would be pretty cool. If you ever do decide to give them a voice I volunteer in advance, I can do a pretty good British super villain voice on account of being a British super villain
I like how you make things realistic, but sometimes the game messes up and you remind us you aren't crazy about the thing being entirely roleplay. I like that about you.
The Styx ICBM resembles the NOD nuke from C&C3 that totalled the GDI satellite Philadelphia, hopefully the don't mimic any other NOD weapons or actions.
You should play Space Engine. It's really big, but it is BEAUTIFUL. Explore the universe and go to distant stars or go to Earth. It took my super powerful gaming computer a long time to download it, so anything else is going to take just as long, if not even longer.
Two things: one, the reason the physics failed is due to orbital volicaty difrences, the two added up to a masive amont, to much to sim propertly. second, you need a EMP genarator on a ship, as well as more sheilding on stuff, like a masive Faraday cage.
Next you need a high velocity interception system. something that goes crazy fast and has the delta-v to shoot down satellites. the mechjeb launch to rendezvous should help.
Nope, they don't even come close to working. You'd assume they'd just fly forwards but instead the staging goes haywire and they fly in random directions. :( The guns work though since they are just fancy decouplers.
Thanks man! And may I congratulate you on the use of "you're", I like positive, grammatically correct comments! Anyhow, back to this video all-nighter... Blarghpqh;kafshklafba

I know this is years ago, but I'm just writing down my thoughts and things I notice watching it the third time.
Jerryfan271 while your 100% right, considering they just ICBMed a thing of tanks and a mobal Silo, if i was Styx i would be making some ICBMs to strike back, so having a Defense to this before it happens is the best idea, but thats just my thinking, you dont have to agree with it
it's dramatic irony.
"I Didn't think they had the technology!"(Destroyed Styx missile silo a few episodes ago)
I'll release it tonight if it kills me! Sorry for the delay, busy last week and weekend but I'll try and make the wait worth it!
I really like these opening sequenzes, showing what's going on and giving some kind of story-like structure to every episode. but on the other side, the commentary in episodes of world war k 2 was more atmospheric I think. Amazing work with both projects!
At least we are getting more of this in 3
Thanks very much! Nice to see your thoughts all the way through my dev process. :)
Thanks man, and yes. Get it. It's fun as hell, the money goes to supporting an indie dev and there's plenty of new mod content when you get bored!
I'm pretty sure you had it so perfect it passed through the center of your explosion, where there was no debris. That's what it looked like to me anyway.

This is like watching an RTS from both sides played by one person, I LOVE IT!

For a amateur this is brilliant scripting. This is great thank you for making this.
Use [ and ] if within range... and if KSP is playing ball. In other words GET THE HAYSTACK PLUGIN. It is amazing. The dev hinted they might be including similar functionality in the future.
Your WWK series is one of my favorite TH-cam series!
I double-checked, the reason I use the I-beams for this stuff is they are 80 resistance. Highest in the game. I think the physics just didn't bother since the parts were going so far they probably didn't intersect for long. :/
this might be the greatest thing i have ever watched, thanks so much for putting your time towards this
Thanks man! I love the new layout for the videos! Seems much more professional! Good job! :D
i've never seen anyone becoming so popular in so few time. you got my sub for sure if you continue this
Thanks, I'll try and keep it up!
It is, check Irregular Round-Up #02.
Good job sticking to the story. " we're gonna be fine" than EMP strike.
how have i just noticed this series, its amazing!
Ah, Alt-Click-Drag. Took me ages to find that out. It's a god-send.
It's amazing.
70-80% intercept chance.
Yup, shame about the velocity difference bug. Can't really expect it sim that precisely though, even on my PC.
the storyline u do is perfect on spot and ending was magnificent like a real pro
With that cap thing, there was an episode of Curiosity on the Discovery channel that was a "what if" of an alien invasion. One way they demonstrated as a possible defense solution was that.
:) Thanks dude! I try and live and learn when I make mistakes, I cringe massively every time I spot one.
man, keep up the good work!!! I have never liked ksp so much! this is such a creative idea and i love it! good job
OMG! THE START BUILDS UP ALOT OF SUSPENSE!
watching in 2015. :D gotta say, I really loved that plot twist. Amazing! :D

Feel free to skip that part, however I'm leaving it in because a fair number of people have said they like seeing the thought process and the facts. As you said you can always just skip ahead. :)
duuuuuuude dis series is epic! BEST WORLD WAR K IN TH-cam NO LIE!
Excellent videos dude! Really good idea to make a ksp series!
So Styx creates a Nuclear ICBM and the Elysium Empire coincidentally starts making a Missile Defense Grid? Hmm, seems legit.
coincidence.
CaveMiners7
LOL CaveMiners7 illuminati confirmed.
You are really good at post commentary! most people suck at it but you are good :D.
I haven't played C&C3 (to my shame!), however massive fan of Red Alert 2. That soundtrack!
I know or half remember most of them and then double check them before I record just in case. :)
No I haven't played with that much honestly. I have been tempted but it has had some issues and I haven't felt the need to add the extra difficulty to the somewhat ridiculousness of WWK. Maybe a hardcore playthrough yes.

This is awesome cinematic story stuff! Keep them coming!
Just want to say, I love your series. Keep up the good work. :)
I go onto Facebook in the build phase so I can listen to the music while reading. When he's done, it's a surprise!
Oh my god. Thank you for uploading another one. These are so entertaining.
Just got to love how you saw "Oh God" in such a flat tone voice.
Hey Enter Elysium, an explosion like that is called a H.A.N.E, which stands for High Attitude Nuclear Explosion. That is what caused the EMP blast.
The noise for the missle Scared the crap out of me
Thanks man! Shall do. :)
Wanna know what could make this series about 10x better? The Kerbin City mod, styx, elysium, and the NAT can all have their own bases! Complete with launchpads or runways!!!! If you and the community want we can even develop custom bases specifically for the series!

It was much louder when I was doing the original editing. I think I'm now deaf in one ear. :(

Around 2.5k now. :D I blame my amazing subscriber base. It's all YOUR FAULT guys.
Hehehe, I'm not quite sure how this happened. But pretty damn happy about it. :)
this is awsum cant wait for the next episode......keep up the awsum work
Liked and subbed. Your videos are really good man, keep it up and you'll be big on youtube one day! XD
Excellent vid. Those attempts were super close!! Nice try man!
If you look at mechJeb in the bottom right it was really within milimeters
Rory Gordon
So it really went throw it.
What if...the Styx ICBM cut through because of it's design? Look at it. Very streamlined and aerodynamic. It could have adjusted to slam straight through. Hmm...interesting.
You should make Lorries that HAVE missiles in them, and accompanying them will be both Kethane rigs and lorries with cranes with new missiles...
Thanks man!
Great series and 1080p! *breaks mouse clicking sub button*

The Styx ICBM resembles the NOD nuke from C&C3 that totalled the GDI satellite Philadelphia, hopefully the don't mimic any other NOD weapons or actions.
And also I think the collision tolerance on the ICBM pretty much allows it to tank through the tiny debris your using anyway.
The nuke effect is done in after effects using a lens flare, pretty boring and simple actually!
I know I'm late to the party but I'm going to say it anyway, construct the Dead Hand.
The debris cloud was clearly shaped like a bagel since it was ejected from the middle in a ring. it flew through the hole.
I like you series like how u play like a war it is really cool and interesting keep up the good work! =D
You should play Space Engine. It's really big, but it is BEAUTIFUL. Explore the universe and go to distant stars or go to Earth. It took my super powerful gaming computer a long time to download it, so anything else is going to take just as long, if not even longer.
I think what happened was that from when you decoupled the girders, the force of the decouplers sent them flying around the ICBM.
Two things: one, the reason the physics failed is due to orbital volicaty difrences, the two added up to a masive amont, to much to sim propertly. second, you need a EMP genarator on a ship, as well as more sheilding on stuff, like a masive Faraday cage.
This series is amazing, good job
When I saw the "Nuclear" Aspect, my eyes went open and I just said "Shit's about to get serious."
your sattilite is more like a rocket than your rocket when you covered it and gavie it more fuel! XD
Or in fact that nearly everyone on youtube has got all their music from one place... Though I actually mostly use two sites for mine,
Sorry to hear about your food, dude.
Next you need a high velocity interception system. something that goes crazy fast and has the delta-v to shoot down satellites. the mechjeb launch to rendezvous should help.
congratz on the 1 thousand subs
yes you can, seen it one to many times with my rockets. problem was the icbm didn't hit any debris. kept going straight thru the cloud.
Keep it up! You do a good job of making a one man war engaging to watch..
"I am not a happy bunny" ;V

Btw, you don't have to put the fairings on the same height, just align the green dots together
When i saw the title (kerbal space program with mods)
i pressed subscribe before i started the video :D
This game needs to be Multiplayer. How cool would it be to have cities, and fire warheads and invade each other.
Good work, I hope you do really well on youtube, liking the KSP videos, have got the demo of KSP, would you recommend the full version?
