- I FINALLY FINISHED THIS, PLEASE TAKE IT FROM MY HANDS!
Ah! I’ve been chipping away at this for a few months now, in between other projects, so it’s taken significantly longer to finish than normal. PLUS I actually integrated a few moments of actual animation this time and not just boards, so that added to it. It really was mostly the inconsistency at which I worked on it, though! Normally I LOCK IN and fixate on one project at a time, but I had to squeeze room in for this one.
Worth it though! I learned SO SO much from this one, I’m very happy to think of how my workflow can improve from here. I also had fun! Except for coloring it, since I truly, truly despite adding flat color to things, it is so boring- and bad for my wrist!
Anyway. YES this is a song from Victorious LMAO, but you know what’s so wild is that I got this idea in the first place when one day I thought to myself, “Hey, remember that solo song from Victorious with Liz Gillies? I remember that being really good, let me listen to it again!” Only to find out that the studio recorded version kinda fuckin’ SUCKS? How they managed that, I have no idea, but the production is bare bones and the vocals are tamed WAY down compared to the show-version. But even the show version didn’t slap as hard as I remember!
Thankfully, the TH-camr @ ConnerMainChannel made a REALLY GOOD remix of the song, even mixing in the better vocals! As soon as I heard this version, I was inspired to actually make this animatic. So thank you so much for making this remix! When I first found it, I had it on repeat for wayyyy too long.

AHH but let me talk about the animatic, itself!
First, let me say, I cannot believe that we’re where we are in canon right now. These two love each other so dearly, it’s crazy. I am so happy to see so many smiling Kacchans, he’s been so open and free, I love him! I’m waiting for Izuku to let the weight fall off his shoulders, next. He’s going through so much, I’m just waiting for it all to come out and for him to be able to smile and be open, too. I have high hopes! We’ll see how it all plays out.
Despite saying all of that, this particular animatic I wanted to focus on Kacchan’s initial resistance against Izuku. How he pushed him away their whole lives, denying them both the connection that they cannot sever, and basically just pretended that he didn’t care about Izuku, or that Izuku couldn’t possibly understand him the way that he does.
But slowly, Kacchan can’t resist their bond any longer, and he accepts that Izuku not only KNOWS him, but is the one who knows him BEST. Afterall, Kacchan is the one who knows Izuku best, too (and in current canon, he’ll make SURE everyone knows it, which is so funny I love you Kacchan).
It’s all self-explanatory, of course. I just love their relationship and its little nuances so! Also tsundere Kacchan will always be charming, it adds to his princess-ness.

It really puts into perspective how much SHIT these guys have been through. How much they have journeyed and developed, fought and protected and done all they could, secretly for each other. Like, damn, course I ship them, but we don't HAVE to have that in the manga, because you pretty much highlighted to all the fandom in this animatic that these two have the MOST chemistry, and mean so much to each other (also in reference to chapter 424). They are LITERAL soulmates like you cannot change my mind, either platonic or romantic, cuz their lives are tangled together. Screw tangled, melted and mixed. I'm generally not a BakuDeku fan, mostly bc I headcanon Bakugo as aroace, but this was so genuinely lovely to watch. Their canon dynamic is so incredibly interesting to me and I think I can now totally see why people pair them together romantically. You've officially made a BakuDeku enjoyer out of me with this.

This is so true to Katsuki's character and their dynamic! And I've not seen the newer chapters in an animatic,and honestly you rocked the redraw of those scenes.
I also love how expressive they are,especially around each other,in cannon and in your art style. To me it kinda shows how much the two mean to one another,just how emotionally charged their interactions are.
(Also,you definitely captured Izuku's reaction to Katsuki's death perfectly! God I felt all the feelings I first felt when seeing that all over again).
It's amazing that 90% of this is canon and the ending just fits so naturally with the rest! Amazing job, the faces are incredible, this is my new comfort video 💙

this animatic is probably the best one ive seen yet. and ive watched a shit ton of animatics since 2017. 😭 its so emotional and youve encaptured the many trials the pair have gone through. the song is so perfect and fitting for them too omg😭 and, excuse me if i interpreted wrong, i love how you characterize bkg as feeling unworthy of izus admiration and love, pushing him away whenever he got too close,, and that made the ending scene even better, when bkg is “warning” izu but izu just has that lovestruck look on his face anyway. you really nailed the whole concept of them being the only ones who truly understand and KNOW each other. i love this so much and youre incredibly talented!!!

Eu não conseguiria expressar em inglês o quão profundamente esse vídeo tocou meu coração... Então vou escrever em português mesmo. É incrível como cada trecho da música encaixou tão perfeitamente em diferentes momentos da relação entre esses personagens e no desenvolvimento de cada um deles. Como cada frase da canção significa algo diferente considerando cada contexto da história. "I'm dangerous", por exemplo, pode significar tanto uma provocação raivosa de Bakugo quanto uma preocupação sincera de Deku para se manter afastado. E, no fim, também pode significar uma demonstração de carinho entre os dois.
No final, o trecho "And the longer that you stay / the ice is melting" é perfeito para mostrar como Bakugo se aproximou aos poucos de Deku, começou a entendê-lo e não se afastou mais.
O trecho "And the pain feels okay /it feels okay" é doloroso de verdade de assistir. Tão bonito e dolorido. Depois, a história vai crescendo junto com a sonoridade da canção e tudo fica lindo e doce no final. Enfim, eu fiquei muito emocionada. Parabéns, lindo trabalho!!!
I couldn't express in English how deeply this video touched my heart... So I'm going to write it in Portuguese and to use a tradutor. It's incredible how each part of the song fits so perfectly into different moments in the relationship between these characters and the development of each of them. How each phrase in the song means something different considering each context of the story. "I'm dangerous", for example, can mean either an angry taunt from Bakugo or a sincere concern from Deku to stay away. And, in the end, it can also mean a show of affection between the two.
In the end, the section "And the longer that you stay / the ice is melting" is perfect for showing how Bakugo gradually got closer to Deku, began to understand him and never moved away.
The line "And the pain feels okay /it feels okay" is truly painful to watch. So beautiful and painful. Then, the story grows along with the sound of the song and everything becomes beautiful and sweet in the end. Anyway, I was very emotional. Congratulations, beautiful work!!!
