Pretty sure you unlock the characters via Road to Elite with certain AEW characters. I know Britt Baker DMD unlocks Mr. Brodie Lee, but I don’t know who unlocks the other 2 you mentioned. I thought one was unlocked via Moxley, but his story didn’t unlock anyone. I guess just run thru all the characters in story mode and see what/who u get. And it keeps track of who you have and have not beaten the mode with, so that’s an easy way to keep up with who u still have to beat RtE with
I think they might have disregarded the lights out match for multiplayer matches because technically 3 and 4 way matches are no DQ anyway. Also I've definitely pulled other weapons from under the ring in ladder matches, though you do mostly find ladders. If anything, it is the ladder match that needs a 3 or 4 player option.
ive been having fun with this game so far.. reminds me of No Mercy and those other N64 era wrestling games.. I feel like it is a modern style of it.. I have never watched AEW and have played some of the 2K games.. but this probably been one of the better wrestling games I have played in a very, very long time
Thanks for this review. I hate to hear that the CAW mode sucks, since I love to sink time into that with wrestling games, but I'm still going to pick this up to support AEW games. Hope they will improve it in the future. One small thing I like is that the game actually allows intergender wrestling. I haven't played a WWE game since 19, so I'm not sure if they've brought that back yet.

As a huge fan of the WCW World Tour/Reveng, WWF Wrestlemania 2000/No Mercy and especially Virtual Pro Wreystling 1/2 games on the N64, I was hoping this would be their true successor and THE wrestling game. But the more reviews I see, the more it seems the game isn't at the level I hoped it would be. I like AEW (especially now that CM Punk is back to save us from the mostly illogical boredom that has been around since he was injured) so I'll buy the PC version to play it on my desktop PC and Steam Deck/ROG Ally, but perhaps not for the full price (and you can't even pre-order the PC version anyway). Maybe the modding community will be able to unlock new game modes and such that is hidden in the files. At least you, RGT, can play with your cousin Eddie Kingston. I wish they would have concentrated less on mini games that have nothing to do with wrestling and gotten things like Trios Tags and all the other match types from Road to Elite into Exhbition instead.
Seriously, take the entire No Mercy engine. Update the skins. Give us 64 (yep) wrestlers including Ospreay, Vikingo, Komander and Bandido. No need to waste data on career mode. Axe it! Give us unlimited CAW options instead. Local and online play would hold the game up for a long, long time if the game play is there.
This game seems like it went too hard on Jack of all trades, master of none. Kenny Omega being a game director couldn't be more off-putting. Just because you like something doesn't mean you're qualified to be a director of it

Hey man. I reviewed the game and at a certain point when playing I randomly completed a challenge called "unlock your first hidden wrestler" and Owen Hart was available in the shop. Now when I go to challenges I have a fourth tab called "secret" and it has an objective for unlocking a second hidden wrestler but it doesn't say how to do it. WIth Paul Wight I believe you have to beat him in the 3-minute challenge during Road to Elite. I think this may be bugged though. I literally dropped the difficulty to easy and hit the guy with 8 finishers and he still kicked out at two and let the time run down.
I’m not an AEW fan at all, but I’m a wrestling fan in general and a wrestling game fan. I’m interested in the switch version because I’m looking for a wrestling game I can actually play on the switch (2k18 I’m looking at you 😒 Inexcusable. If Witcher 3 and doom eternal can run with no issues a wrestling game should easily.) the AEW game sounds like it runs better than 2k18 but you did mention a couple performance glitches here and there. Im hoping those get patched soon. This is a huge chance for AEW. If they can get a good wrestling game on the switch they’ll have access to an entire market of gamers that WWE doesn’t, and that can lead to new fans. This game has the potential of making me a fan too
Did you miss the part where he said it lags and stutters? John Riggs only mentioned that lag and stutter when he was playing online with RGT but definitely looks laggy to me. I imagine he’s only happy with it because it’s on the switch and can overlook the performance issues.

Owen Hart is unlocked doing 100 exhibition matches, Brodie Lee is unlocked by successfully completing the first block of the story arc w no losses after the casino ladder match and Paul Wight is also further in the RTTE mode

The game you are talking about was the wrestling game I had the most fun with. If I get as much enjoyment out of this AEW game as I did the N64 one I will be happy.
I'm not an AEW die hard but I am a N64 No Mercy/Revenge fan so I bought the game. Got to play it just a few mins ago. There are some issues with it but so far I'm liking it more than 2k23.
As someone who raged when they censored the blood in No Mercy...the blood in this game is just ridiculous. 6 pints appearing all over the mat the second you touch tacks is neither realistic or even well animated.
As someone who isn't a wrestling fan, I don't care about creating specific wrestlers or unlocking specific characters. I just want a good arcade wrestler. Hopefully the Switch version hiccups get patched but it's good enough to still be a day 1 buy for me

RGT aew wrestling is here in my city of Hamilton Ontario for two back to back shows. And I already come across a few wrestlers but who are they? No clue. Got out of wrestling 10 years ago.
There's seems to be a lack of fluidity animations too. I seen someone jump off the top rope and a whole catch animation is missing and it just snaps to the person being held .so weird
Blessed u chose to review the Switch version, since it is the only platform I own, I dont want to have a wwe2k18 issue which was bad from the get go. From your review, the hiccups, while noticeable, it doesnt seem to be as bad as it could be
Just played the PS5 version today. Feels unfinished. Small roster, not a lot of match types, graphics are meh. Played several tag matches where the AI was not only stupid but several times just froze and stood completely still for the rest of the match. Seems like the start of something, but it’s not as snappy as no mercy. Seems very unbalanced; you can beat the crap out of someone special them twice and they can get back up to special after a few hits. It’s not bad but it’s clunky and just feels unfinished. Not on No Mercy’s level to be honest.
I hope they release updated yearly physical versions with the DLC & updates from the previous year on disc. I want a physical version of this game that's well baked. Playing this game out of the box 10 years later when all the update servers are down will be a very half-baked venture.
Bro, why yearly releases? Whenever a new one comes out, you can no longer play the previous one with friends because of the servers. What they need to do is release this one, learn from this one and make a better product next time. These yearly releases on certain games is just not it.
I pre-ordered the XBox version - the Switch version just didn't look crisp. (After the debacle that was 2K on the Switch a few years back with WWE, just didn't want to take a chance). I pretty much own an XBox for all my sports games anyway (WWE 2K, Golf, F1 games) etc. so I didn't want to mess with the trend. WrestleQuest will get the Switch version and I did buy RetroMania Wrestling for Switch. Really only wanted FTR, but we've waited so long that I'd already budgeted for the Elite version in my gaming $$.
Yeah, I watched a comparison video and there’s a pretty big difference as far as I’m concerned I’ll be returning my switch version when it comes on the 6th and grabbing an Xbox copy most likely tomorrow but I have the PS5 pre-ordered as well for pick up tomorrow. Like many others I didn’t know which version to go with, and had my doubts about the switch’s capabilities and it got delayed in shipping anyway.
Well there have been times in wrestling were wrestlers were on tables and take the hit and the table doesn't break lol im sure there will be patches and cool things added since im sure its not going to be a yearly type game and that leaves room, for cool DLC packs
It’s glitchy… freezes in places but it plays Great on Switch. BUT…. If you do a signature/finisher, and try to skip the replay, the game will freeze. I hope they fix this REAL soon.
I love my switch but the switch version looks bad, did you say you had the xbox version also? Could you make another review or video showing the xbox version? The footage I saw in your video has told me I won’t buy the switch version definitely, may steer clear completely if the xbox or playstation versions don’t perform better.
Welp. Preordered the switch version yesterday and hoping I don't regret that. I really hope they keep expanding this game out so it gets better and better.
They'll definitely be expanding on the game. THQ has a Q&A section for the game, and they said they'll be adding more modes etc in the future. Hopefully, the freezing glitch gets patched ASAP.

As a Nintendo Switch owner, and a HUGE Wrestling fan! I'm definitely getting this. AEW is not bad but far as WWE2k18 which was last game for the Switch this game is a huge win over that one!!!! Wish WWE would make a new one for the Switch but they probably never will again

I pre-ordered the XBox version - the Switch version just didn't look crisp. (After the debacle that was 2K on the Switch a few years back with WWE, just didn't want to take a chance).
I pretty much own an XBox for all my sports games anyway (WWE 2K, Golf, F1 games) etc. so I didn't want to mess with the trend. WrestleQuest will get the Switch version and I did buy RetroMania Wrestling for Switch.
Really only wanted FTR, but we've waited so long that I'd already budgeted for the Elite version in my gaming $$.
Yeah, I watched a comparison video and there’s a pretty big difference as far as I’m concerned I’ll be returning my switch version when it comes on the 6th and grabbing an Xbox copy most likely tomorrow but I have the PS5 pre-ordered as well for pick up tomorrow. Like many others I didn’t know which version to go with, and had my doubts about the switch’s capabilities and it got delayed in shipping anyway.

Well there have been times in wrestling were wrestlers were on tables and take the hit and the table doesn't break lol im sure there will be patches and cool things added since im sure its not going to be a yearly type game and that leaves room, for cool DLC packs

It’s glitchy… freezes in places but it plays Great on Switch.
BUT…. If you do a signature/finisher, and try to skip the replay, the game will freeze. I hope they fix this REAL soon.
When i pressed the pause button during the signature move replay, the game crashed.
The cutscenes remind me of a PSP game lmao. Seems like Switch hardware really holds back sports games

I love my switch but the switch version looks bad, did you say you had the xbox version also? Could you make another review or video showing the xbox version? The footage I saw in your video has told me I won’t buy the switch version definitely, may steer clear completely if the xbox or playstation versions don’t perform better.

They'll definitely be expanding on the game. THQ has a Q&A section for the game, and they said they'll be adding more modes etc in the future. Hopefully, the freezing glitch gets patched ASAP.
@@Enigmalake lol... Firstly, I'm not a huge gamer but am a huge wrestling fan and love most wrestling games - so I'm fine with preordering this one. Secondly, the gameplay looks more than favourable on the Switch. I'll be fine with it as a casual gamer. Peace.

Honestly, I’ve never got NM vibes from this at any point despite the pre hype. If anything, I get a feel of a mix between def jam and day of reckoning.
Same. Not a knock against Fight Forever, but if you can't hit No Mercy, Def Jam and DoR can be done unintentionally. I am enjoying it so far. 7.5/10.

As a Nintendo Switch owner, and a HUGE Wrestling fan! I'm definitely getting this. AEW is not bad but far as WWE2k18 which was last game for the Switch this game is a huge win over that one!!!! Wish WWE would make a new one for the Switch but they probably never will again
