He had the money when he was at Beijing. He could afford a wealthy life, it's just that his business isn't going great so far.
Rich people "poor" and poor people "poor" is different, he is a business man, of course he had money. I guess he must have bought the car when he's working in Beijing. His father also not poor, they're the wholesaler of flower in town so Ah Yao is not from a poor family.
Hongdou comes to Zhiyao too fast, that makes me kinda disappointed. Its like Yao got 2 nice things at the same time with no effort (girl friend and business invester). In fact, that lower the value of those 2 precious things, the man will lose interest in the girl faster.
Remember that first and foremost Xu Hongdou is doing this for HERSELF. Before doing this, she has even considered, "What if my business failed, and my man leaves me?". She knows what she's getting into. And even before this, she worked hard for money and even rose up the rank of corporate ladder. She's pretty ambitious in her own ways. She knew that shes coming here for BUSINESS first. Plus, she loved the place. She loved the people. The peace. It's not going to happen, but if Zhiyao ever leaves her or "lose interest" as you put it, she is not going to lose everything - because she has her family, her friends, and her business, and most importantly, HERSELF. She has herself (and her wealth of experience). And if this homestay hotel does open branches, she could always move out of Yunmiao and manage the other branches. Win-win for her. - Not to mention, Zhiyao also used the connections he had, and Hongdou has the privilege of having local expertise on her side at little cost - which is a huge privilege not even that bookstore laoban has when opening a business in the village. It's both a genius and courageous move on her side.
I’m not even sure we’re watching the same drama a this point. She’s been nothing but cautious before finally agreeing to being in a relationship with him. She’s a very sensible lady who doesn’t just throw caution to the wind just because of love.
