  • In this video I pull apart the outdoor unit of a split system air conditioner.
They are easy to pull apart and you get some good copper and the copper/aluminium radiators are great value. The air conditioner compressors have some good weight and bring reasonable money.
    It's a tear down that I recommend.
Here is a link to an indoor unit.

Welcome to the Bondi Scrapper Channel.
This channel is my recycling journey from kerbside collections and dumpster diving and ending at the scrap metal dealer for a cash payout.
I love walking the streets and finding recyclable waste, taking it back to my small workshop (The Cage) and pulling it apart, saving it from landfill and feeding it back into the manufacturing stream via the scrap metal dealer.
My favourite metals are brass, copper and aluminium. I also do a lot of steel which is an inevitable bi-product of scrapping.
When I'm not scrapping, my other hobbies are growing vegetables, compost worms and Australian native stingless bees.

The solenoid thing and the thing you had your hand on at the 6.10 mark i both sell as is as electric motors....And if the black sticky stuff is hard to remove from the copper you can sell it as is as domestic copper which for me is $9.30kg......All in all not a bad break down.

Hey mate think it’s important to note that discharging Freon into the atmosphere is illegal when done intentionally and in Australia you can face a $33,000 fine of caught doing it just for those watching thinking of doing this at home either contact your local air conditioning installer and have it recovered or sell it to an ARCtick Licensed scrap metal recycler

Yes, you are correct. That unit was in the dumpster already discharged. I've only made the mistake of accidently discharging a fridge once and it was too messy (apart from the legal /environmental issues).
Oddly, take a gassed up fridge or window mount AC to a large scarp metal yard and it will almost always go straight into shred. I have no idea how they get away with it.

You forgot to add the copper solenoid and insulated copper wire but still a great haul. Usually there is the indoor part to the air-conditioner is there anything in that you may know of.

Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow scrapper.
    Nice video.
I have a steady supply of those things, I do pickups from a whitegoods repair shop and supplier and a friend works for a H-VAC company. During the last 2 month I have done 15 of them. Awsome scraps with very little waste.
By the way, check with your yard about the Mosfet off circuitboards,, I get high grade wire price for them.
    Stay safe and take care.

Is a mosfet the thing that is usually bolted to a heatsink? I'll ask.
      Thanks for watching

@@bondiscrapper1781 that is correct, they are about 90% copper with black resin.
Sealed units or compressors, I just drain the oil and get electric motor price for them. Noticed some of them have aluminium winding so I stopped cutting them open.
