I really need to get one of these Japanese Double Jiggers. I 100% agree that precise measurement can make or break a great cocktail! Love these videos. Keep up the good work!
In the last episode it would be great if you can explain a little bit more about why a boston shaker is superior to the 3 piece. Also a pint glass vs a cheater tin
I did that in a past shaker video I think, I didn't do it in the next one on the boston shaker primarily because I wanted to keep it focused on the 'essential' tools without adding too much information beyond that. It makes the video too long and people won't click on it. I can probably do a separate video later on "cobbler vs. boston shaker" that gives _just_ that information. People consume better on TH-cam if you only give them a bit of information at a time.
Just thought I'd point out that OXO now makes stainless steel jiggers that eliminate most of the problems you mentioned. Other than that, great info and I love the videos!
the oxo stainless steal mini angled measuring cup? Yeah, I used to sell them. It's a huge pain in the ass, I don't suggest it. Even my customers reviewed it with low scores, so I stopped carrying it.
Common Man Cocktails I don't see how they're any more difficult to use than the clear plastic ones? I have two of them and I love using them compared to standard jiggers or measuring cups.
I'm from Europe so I use the ml measurement. So for those who doesn't know, 1 oz is about 30ml (29.5 to be precise). I personally have the 30/15 ml Japanese double jigger, and I'm planning to buy 50/25ml. I prefer 2 because I think it's kinda faster to take another jigger and fill it instead of watching if I'm on the line on the bigger one.
yeah, most bartenders use two or more so they don't have to measure to the internal lines, which is fine for them, but when I'm at a party, I want to carry less with me than more. And, ironically, I've memorized basic ml capacities for a lot of common measures. Unfortunately I can't always do the conversion in my head since all my recipes are in ounces. Also, it's interesting that most japanese jiggers are in ml, it took me a long time to find one in ounces that had all 5 measures :)
yeah, but it's too much work and people complain if it's not perfectly right. It also leads to some odd measure that I don't think are really possible to pull off (like 33ml or whatnot). If I'd do them in ml, I'd rather them make sense than just be a "google conversion" thing. Since, I spend a good deal of time googling stuff like "75ml in oz" (bad example, but I used to have to do that), I figure there are enough tools out there to get that done. It saves me a lot of time in photoshop, recipe copy/pasting and all that. Now, if the show made actual money, sure I'd put more time into some of those details, but at this point, I cut corners where needed to save time (as time is money).
Perfectly understandable. I wish you more views, you deserve them. I have one question about future videos, was looking for a video similar to your vodka or gin selection video. Will there be any video like this in the future? You changed my mind about Jose Cuervo with that garbage video.
Well, it doesn't really matter whether you are using oz or ml as long as you're keeping ratios the same. Besides, 1 US fluid ounce is defined as 29.5735296 ml, so the difference is negligible and almost definitely below random observational error if the goal is 30 ml. Keep in mind, there's also an imperial (British) fluid ounce, which is defined as 28.41306 ml. Both of them are denoted as oz or fl oz, so if you're using multiple jiggers (from multiple manufacturers/bought from different online retailers) in oz it's possible to mix them up.
The jiggers I sell at awesomedrinks measure out right, not sure why Cocktail Kingdoms do that, but I don't buy their overpriced products so... I don't worry :)
@@cmcocktails Well mayde the Cocktail Kingdom jiggers are correct and the other ones not? What I found is if I measure twice the ¾ oz. markings inside the jigger it goes up way to the top of the 1½ oz. Jigger side. But if I measure twice the ½ oz. markings inside the jigger, when I pour that into the 1 ounce side, it doesn't go as high to the top.
yeah, that's the one I was looking at as probably the best value for folks. Since I have you here, are you more used to having more jiggers with less measures? So a 1 oz / 2 oz. vs. one that has four/five measures in it?
@@cmcocktails No, I hate using inside increment measures. I like 1oz./2oz. and a 1/2oz./3/4 oz. and I'll use the 1½ oz./1 oz. for the 1½ oz. The only inside marking line I use is the ¼ oz. Greg Boehm who created these jiggers said he designed the Cocktail Kingdom ones to not need to go to meniscus.
I have an awesome home Bar, I have awesome tools, I created 50 or so awesome cocktails and I created an awesome menu. I love the channel and I watch every vlog. My only request would be to do a show on awesome garnishes, especially for Tiki style drinks. I'd like to garnish them like they do at high end resorts. I'm just missing the "wow" factor.
yeah, I suck at doing garnishes too, but I'll work on learning a bunch of them (I know about six or so) and figure out a way to film it up, probably in the spring.
I can get one as soon as daylight hits hoping you haven't sold out, can you autograph my package lmao.... I'm so serious you will know its mines it will have my name Shelia Lewis on the receipt lol

thanks!
I started bartending weddings and events for a staffing company..by watching videos. Paying attention is key

Great idea for a series. Good luck.
Thanks!

I got one too and I realy like it. Depend how I feel but must of the time I use the OXO in stainlees steel.
Great video, Derek. I love my Japanese jigger.

When I fill the Cocktail Kingdom Jiggers to the top, it is a bit way more than my stainless steel Oxo jigger and my traditional wide mouth jiggers.

Great Video!...and that's coming from a bartender since 1988.

I got mine in the other day,😊I like it very much, but that pink cotton candy popcorn that was in there, was pretty stale tasting,😄 lol
I can get one as soon as daylight hits hoping you haven't sold out, can you autograph my package lmao.... I'm so serious you will know its mines it will have my name Shelia Lewis on the receipt lol
haha, I can try, would help if you put it into the "notes" on the order at checkout :) We will have them in stock, I've got like 20 right now.
Garlic Salt?... No. hahah
no, that'd just too much garlic salt :)
You are so drunk, lol
Good health, friend
yeah, I'm not drunk. Heck, I'm not even drinking.
