I empathize with Howland Reed, about feeling smaller and weaker than others, but still being just as proud. I've had friends like Lyanna and Benjen, supportive and stronger, yet feeling ashamed that their encouragement was wasted on me because like Howland, I didn't have the strength to stand up to my bullies alone.
"Stop! That's my father's man you're kicking!" REALLY should have been in the show. That's one of those tiny moments that does a ton of work for Lyanna's character, which were almost entirely missing from the show IIRC.
The show is the Cliff's Notes version of the story, as written by someone who wasn't really paying attention all that closely when they read it themselves...
"That was a good story. But it should have been the three bad knights who hurt him, not their squires. Then the little crannog man could have killed them all. The part about the ransoms was stupid. And the mystery knight should win the tourney, defeating every challenger, and name the wolf maid the queen of love and beauty." "She was," said Meera, "but that’s a sadder story."
I think the prince found out that the knight of the laughing tree was lyanna and fell inlove with her thats why he crowned her the lady of love and beauty because of what she did..i realize that one of the squire was a Frey (twin tower)
I think this too. I think he admired following her fathers honour for his bannermen. 3 bullies r what 3 on 1 is anyway but to witness a female wolf speakout 4 the single man set upon by 3...from there, rhaegar was invlove. X
I like the idea that it was Lyanna as well. The only thing that I think maybe doesn't work about it is they mention the knight of the laughing tree has a "booming voice" and while it isn't impossible she disguised her voice and the helmet changed the way it sounded I always thought signified a male voice. If it was, I kinda like the idea that it was Rhaegar at Lyanna's behest. Like it was some favor to her or part of their courtship cooking up a little scheme together to get justice for Reed.
It would make it too easy for the reader. That's the beauty of his work... It makes you immerse yourself so deeply into it that he doesn't need to be that obvious about these things
So, was the mystery knight Prince Rhyaegar? C'mon, it couldn't have been Lyanna, who was in attendance in the viewing stand, right? She is noble and expected to be there, and her absence would surely have been noted and frowned upon. The Dragon Prince had the jousting skill, and even donned the Old Gods as his device, to impress Lyanna. No doubt she would have addressed what happened to Howland Reed and the squires with Rhyaegar during the time they shared after playing the harp. It was a great opportunity for him to show his untoward affection for his She Wolf.
It wouldn’t make sense for it to be Rhyaegar - for he stood talk and strong, not short of stature; his voice would be recognized, whereas this mystery knight had a booming voice - while women can not often create a booming voice as men, when they do, I guarantee most of the time, they are unrecognizable and a near unisex voice which you can not tell which gender it is. Clues it was Lyanna are given on how she became the knight - Her younger brother knew how to get armor and weapons that could fit Reed. It goes the same could be said for Lyanna as well. Plus - Rhyaegar was supposed to be the center of this tournament, to prove to the 7 Kingdoms he would be a better king than his father. He proves this by defeating ALL contestants- including Kingsguard knights. It is noted, the Prince NEVER won or attended a tournament of any kind that we know of prior. So for a newbie to win in a sport which requires experience is rare, much less with Kingsguard attending and taking part. - It’s already been shown Lyanna knew weapons and wasn’t beyond in engaging in combat, she took on 3 squires on her own - squires who were trained in combat; it wouldn’t beyond reality for her to learn josting, as it is known she loved to ride. Yes, she attended - but there’s so much events going on at this tournament, even some would skip josting for other events also going on; think of it as a fair - why watch the lower knights when you could skip to the main event? Lyanna could have easily slipped in during the beginning rounds which these squires’ knights took place - a forgotten knight lost in the crowd. Unfortunately that plan didn’t go as planned as it put her front and center.

It at least was in the dvd extra history and lore video, and it was well done.

Love these perfect for bed time
I wish someone (you for example ^^) narrated the entire season WITH ambient music... it already exists for LOTR and it's GLORIOUS

I'm guessing that the Dragon Prince went searching for the Knight of the Laughing Tree, and when they met they fell in love.😎
Wonderful read.
