Looks like I had a filter or camera issue on the desk review section. Sorry folks, hopefully you were able to see or understand that section. 😕

I was mistaken on NewBeeDrone selling on AliExpress. There are NewBeeDrone "branded" products, but no official shop.

After having a tough 6 months, during which I was in no mood to fly or maybeeven continue the hobby.... I skipped every video on my feed, from rotor Riot to JB. I didn't feel like looking at pretend excitement or be always required to learn something... And then I saw this and it was the only FPV channel that did not create in me any push back.
Your channel reminded me once again that there is also a chill, fun side tothis hobby where it's not about the best shot, the best time or the best whatever...just about how it feels to fly the quad (but not saying that every drone is the next best thing 😅) and how much fun you can have with it, whilst doing that kind of garage and yard testing I do with my quads.
So thank you for the great vids, keep up the good work :) fly safe
hey exact same thing down to timeline everything..
I feel the same way about this channel it's a nice vibe
KAACK is a special version of betaflight designed for bi directional motors and rpm limits. used in the pro spec 7in racing and stuff. many racers now run it on other stuff.
ah interesting. When I asked the NBD rep they only responded with "I think its for racing" :)
@@NickBurnsFPVlol.
Kaack was made by limon and others. Used to be a seperate version/firmware of betaflight but now is included in part of cloud build.
Main features are rpm limiter, battery mah/usage carry over between batteries, time at 100% throttle, and others
@@NickBurnsFPVIf that was the official response it makes me question their knowledge on the subject 😐
@@NickBurnsFPV you will see KAAK when throttle at 100%
@@NickBurnsFPVkaack is mostly just for fun osd warnings with some inside jokes lol. But it has some useful tools like seeing your average throttle.
Thanks Nick for another awesome review! NBD is based in California and their Hummingbird V3.1 seems got a price down, now selling at $79.99, since i m still a newbie to fpv world i will get this one instead of the racesepc haha. Thanks again for the good info!
I think the standard v3.1 version is at that price point. I will have to double triple check.
Looks like you're unfamiliar with KAACK firmware, it's a branch of betaflight very specifically to add features for multi person races, the big things it includes:
- revamps the osd stick menu to make it so you can adjust your throttle/rpm limits and channels very quickly
- Adds a ready flag in the modes tab so on races you can mark yourself when you're ready in your osd
- Changes your 100% throttle message to the word KAACK, and then on the post screen shows you how much time you spent at 100% throttle
- Lowers the failsafe recovery delay so in noisy environments if you have a failsafe it takes less time to get control back
- Lets you set your osd messages to custom things so you can have shout outs to your friends/families watching the streams, or just generally be silly as racing is a fun thing to do
- Adds in a RPM limiter which is used for spec racing, most specs take a bit off the top of expected rpm so it makes it so crafts don't need to be brand new to be viable, and slows down the motors so everyone competing has motors going the same speed. Also puts it on the main screen for race directors to verify.
Now if you're wondering why do racers who want to go fast as possible want to limit the output on their motors? There is a couple of places that limiting your output power can give you better lap times, the two main ones are on track that are really tight, knocking down the power a bit on these tracks will reduce the amount of blowing out your turns resulting in tighter lines that will result in better lap times (consistency also tends to go up as power goes down). The other situation is sometimes the race director is a madman and makes the track so long that the total race time is longer than what your battery can handle and you can then put an output limit to get your whoop to go a bit more distance so you're not having your battery die before you're in the finish gate.
As for this BNF, it's likely going to be the first BNF I have bought from NewBeeDrone since I started FPV, which at the demands I have for my whoops says a lot!
Thanks for that explanation
Great stuff, Nick!
This thing looks awesome. OG got to have all the fun this time :(
Are you going to put a video out on this one?
I’m still running a fractal75 but this seems interesting.
And the fight for the cheaper BNF tiny whoop starts!
I bet Happymodel will come with something just below that, around $85 maybe.
But we are the winners! 🙌
the hummingbird is always 90 dollars the acrobees are the expensive birds
Happymodel mobula6 was always $85. They've been gradually bumping up the price, not sure if they want to go back to their original pricing
Those are probably hot-air soldered. Solder/Flux paste applied with a syringe. Start heating. Once the solder turns to liquid the wires kind of suck themselves into the pool. So you use tweezers to just guide a VERY small exposed part of wire to the pool. I would have been reprimanded by my manager for leaving so much exposed wire on those motor leads. (very glad I don't have that job anymore)
That very well could be how they were able to use those pads.
I doubt it.
In an industrial setting with board this cheap they hold the board with one hand and the wires with another, then they tap a foot pedal and a heated rod clamps down for a second soldering the wires.
You can pump out a lot more per hour doing it like this than with hot air.
Amazing flying and review, Nick! Thanks!!! 😃
Those little guys are better each and every time! Fantastic!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Drone rips for sure... I'm more impressed by your flying Sir! I and i think most of us here =) have seen you progress into one hell of pilot! Hats off to you sir, you demonstrate FPV to it's core! Thank you for all the drone reviews and footage! Love the crash sound effects too!
9:50 I was discussing this very thing with someone at my LHS a couple weeks ago. We're getting so light and small that pretty soon the only way to get lighter and smaller is to force us to learn micro soldering. In a few years all of us are going to have hot air stations, reflow trays, and microscopes.
we need a nick burns house simulator awesome flying sir
There is an outside “track” but nothing inside. I have been told it’s far to much of a redesign
Price and performance look really good! Thanks for sharing Mr. Burns!!!
My pleasure!!
The value of the review is...the quality of Crashing. Great Review N. Burns
Nubbins Lol
Love the motor wiring idea.
With the pads on top, just be careful not to bridge to the FET. Some of the FETs are oriented so the pins are right next to the pad.
Finally something interesting from newbeedrone. The only issue i see is the osd screen still seems a little muddy, and range is severely limited for outdoor at 25mw. I would love to see a 75 built with similar goals.
Nice review❤ thank you Nick !
Triple power loop, yea baby! =D
I hope to someday be as good an indoor pilot as you. Im blown away every time
Helping the analytics! Have a great day!
Great freaking whoop NewBeeDrone!
Saw that chair attack you. Great flying indoors.
jumped out and got me!!
The last time I was this early, my mom had to get rushed to the ER.
lol that early huh?
Those motor wires look quite unique. Copper enabled and braided together then a stripped section of each wire at the very end? Probably saves decent weight.
Great video and nice whoop . And the price is a good price this whoops are getting really affordable for us great .
Another good review Nick
Zoom zoom, Great review.
The reason NBD didn't solder to the big pads on top is because one fet on each motor is turned towards the pads, so there's a possibility of bridging the motor pad with the pins on the fet. Instead of fixing that design issue they just say "don't solder to the top."
Took Newbeedrone long enough to switch to A30.
The motors seem to be wrapped into delta terminated, that's pretty unusal on 0702 motors... Really nice flying Nick, as always!
I did not care much for the other one but now that's something interesting for sure!
Awesome review Nick!
KAACK is a version of betaflight developed for some whoop race scenes that limit the rpm, they can then see the whoop is following rules when they see the splash screen.
Others have commented KAACK started in 5inch racing, but I can't say with any certainty. It does make sense to have they info on screen for organizers to verify and pilots to be sure.
@@NickBurnsFPVstarted on 5" Freedom Spec I believe. Also you can change the warning messages to say whatever you want 😉
@@notsure1502 Are the warning messages in the cli?
Thinking about getting this one sinc i dont got a good Laptop to runn a sim to learn Acro and how can i take part at the Giveaway if i heard right?
there is no giveaway in this video
@@NickBurnsFPV oo sry
for a 16 gram drone that flys like a maniac outside
yea, it was super super calm out, but it was a surprising performer outside.
@@NickBurnsFPV I recently got into the hobby and got a 5 inch, I feel like whoops are also a lot of fun, but since I went with o3, I would need new goggles and remote which is sad
@@WinWitWon True. Most true whoops are analog and not dji compatible.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah the o3 air unit probably weighs like 30 grams
Good review as ever . On the outdoor test - looked like a purple colour shift to me? Wonder is no UV filter fitted??
With these super light and small quads we don't use uv filters. We crash them so often any lens attachment would be lost in crashes. Internally with analog cameras they do have an ir filter.
Thanks @@NickBurnsFPV I get the size of TWs but was curious if any IR filter had slipped ie in crash as the colour shift was more noticeable than any of your other test. Keep up the good work. Enjoy the content 👍🏻
NBD has had some issues in the race scene, as some of their FCs had wandering VTX - this is where it would be great to see something like and RFExplorer for the review process. But also since they have closed source firmware, you're stuck with whatever hex files they decide to release.
I have visted getting an RF tester for over a year. Unfortunately I have not found them available.
they're still based on betaflight ,just add some their own preset for some version drone
@@MKST-CA I’m aware, but the board is closed source which means you can’t update or roll back Betaflight unless they’ve released a hex for that version. This also means you can’t run anything other than Betaflight
@@DyoGTS imo at least almost in sync with BF, it cannot be considered completely closed-source; there‘re a lot of differences compared to something like Fettec or the previous F1 board.
@@MKST-CA just because their released version is near current doesn’t make it any less closed source. It is entirely up to NBD if they want to release a hex for the board, and therefore won’t be available on the configurator. As such, 3rd party firmware like Quicksilver is not possible unless NBD releases the source code.
Hi Nick, thanks for your reviews and time. Have you ever checked the differences in flight time between BF versions? I'm still using 4.2.11 on my tinys, it gives me up to 2 minutes more flight time, best wishes to you and your family.
I have not. I wouldn't suspect its the core version of betaflight impacting the flight time, but rather the PID tune and how it is design in the different versions of betaflight.
Throttle limit at 98.. that might be my tune. I only gave it to nbd a few days ago 😂 it just cuts off the top of the throttle to help with pid noise, you can’t really use the last couple of % of the throttle range.
The second tune NBD sent was about 2 weeks ago. The 98% throttle is a bit curious to me as I have never used throttle reduction as part of the tuning method.
@@NickBurnsFPVit stops the PIDs bouncing off the max pid rate.. but yeah not my tune. Expect that next week 😂 it’s a goodie though I used my bfpv 5n1 custom to get it right thanks to it having black box ( bout time in the whoop space )
Nice video bro
I'm wondering if you can use the Quicksilver firmware on this whoop for better performance
I am not sure if QS supports any of the newbeedrone boards. Probably a good question for the QS discord.
@@NickBurnsFPVno, as of this time no support for NBD on QS.
@@ProjectMockingbird And there he is!!! 🔥Good to see you and thank you for chiming in.
Wonder if the manufacturer is using soldering paste then takes a heat gun to it. Planning to do another tiny whoop build and using Crossfire even with the camera.
solder paste was mentioned in another comment as the likely method
Hey Nick, what is the song you use in your outro?
i have dji v1 gogs and controller what is the best/smallest quad i could get
Likely something along the lines of the flywoo flylens85. Really there is nothing for DJI like the quad in this video.
@@NickBurnsFPV thanks for the reply i just heard rumors of dji 04 lite at 10 gram so ill wait to see what quads come about from it
@@zombietoesofnothing2381 yea, still even if that dji lite does come about, 10 grams is a lot of the weight of the quad in this video. Likely have to be 75mm to fly very well or long.
Hey Nick
How does this fly compared to the Air65?
Thanks
Its similar as we might expect, but the largest differences is the punchouts outside.
Can I fly this with the TX12 ELSR ?
yes
Does newbeedrone have Aliexpress shop? Cant find one
I haven't either. I do find various NewBeeDrone products but no dedicated shop.
Has anyone built a track of your house on an fpv platform yet? Id love to rip it like you lol.... thanks for the videos!
Only the outside. The sim developers have indicated and interest but nothing inside has come of it
ok fine ill buy one. How did you get your low battery to say "aint leaving"
Those unique messages are the default in the firmware, likely part of the kaack firmware
I don’t know why we just don’t use rubber bands . They hold better on different batteries and if made out of a good material can add grip as well.
I can't say why, but rubber on the bottom side will likely cause a crash on a bottom bump or slide.
@@NickBurnsFPV Interesting, I never considered that aspect. They could most certainly act like a brake. I’m still rocking my tinyhawk and the rubber bands have worked well over the years . I just recently got the Air75. But I can’t get it to fly in Airmode. It just bobbles like crazy no matter what I seem to do to the tune. Guess I’m going to have to learn Acro indoors… But the more I crash the more my dog eats my drone.
@@johnkurpiewski3996 When you describe it as bobbling. Is that a pitching up and down, or the entire quad going up or down?
@@NickBurnsFPV pitching up and down
@@johnkurpiewski3996 so it doesn't do it in angle or horizon mode?
Any idea of release date? Sorry if i missed it
released today and on the website. Linked in the video description
Thank you
This or the Air65?
Air65 I think, this looks a lot more susceptible to motor wires breaking. Also has 400mW vtx if desired vs max of 25mW on hummingbird.
They soldered the motor leads on the connector pads. Someone's making their work harder than it has to be. Oops. :)
That's not going to hold up very well either. Those tiny pads will end up lifting off the board.
I thought this one wasn't supposed to have forked betaflight.
I can't believe how good your video is when you go downstairs, amazing!
Our RF performance is multi factored. I do have the video reception video linked in the description
first thing first smash the like button, than watch the video
awesome!! thank you
!! hey
Hey there!
Flies great, but 25mw?!? C’mon NBD 😫
I'm _not_ a NBD fan, but in this case, 25mW was purposefully chosen. This is a racing whoop, and pretty much every race limits you to 25mW. It's just one less thing to worry about.
6:50 throw that rapid fire out… it’s the worst, got the tbs fusion and it’s a million times better
Race it straight to the trashcan.
I think quadcopters are not drones. don't you think it's insane people have adopted the word drone for RC hobby toys when before that word was mostly used for military killing machines
I have always thought of them as quads. But at some point the word drone started becoming more and more common place. I hear it mostly from those newer to fpv.
