    Love your videos. As an electrician, I would suggest you be mindful of line, load and polarity. Most extension cords will have a means to tell conductors apart, usually one wire that has a row of ridges on its entire length. Also, your black wire needs to be attached to the line or power coming in while the red is the load side which is the power going out. Polarity is determined by the difference in the blades of your plug. I believe the larger blade is the hot. Just be careful. Also, seal your wire wirenuts with hot glue as an extra layer of protection

    I like that you ask for viewers to give a thumbs up - so I did. She looks great and the motion sensor strobe makes it so creepy. I also like when you refer to "corpsing" something - a word you don't usually hear on YT videos. You're the best! TFS

    I very much liked this prop build. But about the electrical I saw one thing to worry about: The Neutral and Hot wires being switched around when you cut the electrical extension cord and spliced it back. Perhaps you did this off camera, but for your audience, if they should attempt this, there is a safety consideration: The reason plugs are polarized are prevent the hot and neutral from being switched around, so it is important to preserve the neutral wire (white) in the circuit from the outlet to the controlled device, in addition there also may be some issue with wiring the motion sensor up backwards... I would suggest using a 3-wire extension cord for two reasons: (1) you have a usable ground for the controlled device and (2) using these extension cords, if they are sheathed, is that (usually) they have color-coded wires inside so you can't mix them up. and (3) optionally you can ground the gang box and attach the motion head to it as you said in the video. Most plastic boxes are "double insulated" so no ground available or necessary. A gang box would protect the wire splices and make it easier to mount.

One question, does it matter which wires I use on my extension cord for the 3 motion sensor wires? • @slink-ethefox990

    Useful tip: on two wire electrical cords, to differentiate between the power (black) and neutral (white) sides, the power side will be smooth the whole length of the cord, the neutral side will have ridges that run the entire length. (YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET THESE BACKWARDS!) You will end up frying your motion sensor and possibly damaging your device that you have plugged in! Not to mention you may pop the circuit you have the whole thing plugged into! For added safety, plug your setup into a GFCI outlet, that way you will have a quick shut off if something goes wrong. And ALWAYS have an enclosure for wire connections!!! Even if it is inside!!! It’s better to be safe than electrocuted! Happy haunting! 🙂

    Materials?

  • @singletxguyforfun2682
    @singletxguyforfun2682 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I made a couple DIY sensors with the same model of motion sensor, and somehow I couldn't get it to power more than a simple light bulb or LED. Even a 20w light wouldn't operate, so I returned them and got a Cooper MS180. Only problem with those were that the dualbright feature could not be disabled, so i cracked them open and manually covered the light sensor with tape. So I suppose if you only need to power an LED strobe, the ones in your video are fine. Anything more demanding and you'll want a different sensor. If anyone had a different outcome please let me know.

    Hello sir can you show us the electrical drawing on how we can do this setup the motion sensor? thanks

    • @jjr897
      @jjr897 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jon the electrical connections are not that difficult but there’s a few things he did not point out. One thing is polarity there is a hot and neutral. Reversing the polarity could burn out the motion sensor or an LED light. If you look at Power cord the wider speed on the plug 🔌 is the neutral, The smaller spade is the hot, every motion sensor you buy-wiring could be slightly different, so that hard to tell u or show you how to wire it correctly. On the Motion sensor white wire is usually neutral black wire will be hot. Most companies use a blue wire that will be hot to the 💡. So all the neutrals Will be connected to gather.

    I’m trying to make the creepy little girl sitting on the porch hiding her face and most of this tutorial works, except that her knees are bent up to her chest and that’s where I need help. Since I don’t have a porch, this prop will sit on the steps. Any suggestions as to how to get her knees bent to her chest and still have it fit on the step (approximately 16 inches wide), would be greatly appreciated.

    • @HawkNutz27
      @HawkNutz27 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually one prong is bigger than the other one. The small one would be the main hot wire the bigger side would be the white wire (Nuetral).
