Hi Shawn and Calli 🐕 ❄️ I really like that ole miter box and hand tools as those are what I grew up with making stuff that were my dads tools in our shop! He would tell me our tools are only as good as well as we take care of them and they will last forever! ❤

I have watched your struggles building both cabins. But this one is wonderful and beautiful! I was amazed with your basement!! What a wonderful place to put your vegetables. I can't remember if you ever gave a full tour of the whole cabin. I don't remember ever seeing the upstairs. If you did shoot a video of the upstairs could you tell me which video it was? Just can't beat a fresh deer steak. Well, maybe some lovely oven venison stew. Lovely touch to the bathroom. Cozy and comfortable laid back living. Worth the extra work with the outdoors to boot, to enjoy.

Took awhile to recognize the iron gizmo is a miter box - must be fun sourcing out and restoring all the old tools. I learned that I might be doing a terrible job of sharpening my knives, and this is one time I wished you had talked through your process! Looks like mama moose isn't ready to see those antlers come off. I really appreciate being able to get my dose of Muskoka vicariously through your channel. I miss it.
Shawn I just watched this video and a couple days ago watched as you were talking about sharpening tools and knives. As a former carpenter I know the importance of sharpening tools and knives! I made jigs and fixtures for all my stones, steels,ceramic rods and straups. Everything is at a 22 degree angle. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some pictures of what I have done. Enjoy the weekend. We are in the middle of an ice storm here in NE Iowa.

Did you ever see my comment about making removable screens and windows for the outdoor kitchen. You number them so they go right back into the same spot. In the spring put up screens and the fall glass. My grandparent had a screened in front porch like that. Don't make them too big.
I remember watching u build your first cabin. I have to tell u..... U made the second cabin more awesome than the first!!! Maybe we could consider the first as a pattern (sorry I'm sure there's a better word than that)for the second lol?? I remember why u made your decision to rebuild. I would have done the same. U r so wonderfully talented. Since u enjoy working with your hands why not consider a learning workshop on TH-cam to teach others to build??? U know so much and there's many who haven't the faintest idea what some of the tools u used r called even??? People who know probably learned a lot just by watching u now I know or inspired. I envy the beauty u and your wife have. Your world is what so many of us would love to have ,but, most of us ,sadly, never will for more reasons than one 😢. You're still missing a hot tub and sauna over there. I can imagine all kinds of cool ideas building a structure for those cranking up logs cut into 6 x 6s or something and cranked up by your winch making a bunch of vertical posts to fasten walls to and have like a canopy manger gazebo with a hot tub under it heated by firewood and an enclosed sauna beside it.
Have you ever made deer jerky before? Do you know how to make the shredded jerky chew kind that can be stored in a big glass container? That would be good to have.
I don't know how you'd make the really fine jerky chew without a food processor or blender. I think that's how it's done once the jerky is smoked and/or dry aged or dehydrated.
