There should really be a 3rd part of the competition. The Red Team members should spar and fight the blue team. The only reason one does Kata in Karate is to practice fighting. The then demonstrate fighting techniques which I like. The red team - Belarus is much better then the blue team in the demonstration as the techniques are more sound, technical and fundamental. However the real understanding of the art comes in the fighting, actual fighting. So there should a third aspect of each member of the team sparing (Continuous "Dojo" Type Sparing with a 5,6 or 10 minute round) with winner by points or submission (yes there are submissions like a standing rear naked choke after spinning the shoulders that I learned back in 1987 and we didnt even know about BJJ back then).
for me belaruss is probably one of the best team of europe and the world. they should have wun 5/0 against egypt and i don t understand how it s possible they are not medallists in europe. moreover, yermakova has just a fantastic techniq and great power....for me she is the best eurpean kata girl...better than martin, bottaro and scordo
both katas were medium but the bunkai of aka was really better.
Both teams were good. Very Good. I however, could not believe when the flags went up !!!.
