    33 here, have had tension headaches and migraines for 10 years. Praying this is the answer. Used to be the most active person in the world, now activity just layers on pain. My head falls forward if I don’t consciously think about it all day, energetically consuming. What are your thoughts on expansion before, or releasing first ? Another online source says if there’s a lot of tension and pain, that you can release before any potential expansion

      Adults don’t always need expansion first. It depends how much “room” or space you have available. A short, simplified answer is check if you have any tongue “overflow” in your cave hold. If the tongue goes over the teeth, then you may need expansion. But always best to get a personal assessment!
      As to your headaches- YES. Very common in adults who are posteriorly restricted. Most commonly the aches and pain occur at the base of the skull/upper neck or near temples/ears.

      I had a client a couple years ago who had migraines daily since she was 14. She got Botox all along her scalp (a whopping 13 injections!) for the pain 4 times a year. Got a tongue tie release and now she gets about one a month, and the intensity is way down. Talk about a huge win!

      @@OpusMyo thanks for the response! I have a high palate, which I know is linked to tongue ties, but my tongue seems to fit up within it just right… the only thing that is bother some is when I bite down, I actually bite the floor under my tongue because of how restricted I am. All of my back muscles are tight (from what I’m assuming is to try to keep me erect because my head is falling forward 24/7). Hardest part for me is finding a reliable person and not just anyone who releases (I have an amazing myo I started working with last year but life put things on hold, and she’s looking for one in Buffalo/ Rochester Ny area). My number one complaint is I have visual aura 24-7, for 10 years. Which again, makes me think it has to be something structural wise causing the overall tension. Makes you feel like you’re insane lol

    I have a posterior tongue tie. I just had a maxillary palatal expansion to make more room for my tongue. Prior to the surgery, I was having muscle pain from head to toe, sleep issues, nasal breathing difficulties. A dentist made me an oral appliance that kept my tongue at the roof of my mouth and pushed my lower jaw forward. I wore that for one day and MY PAIN WAS GONE. soooo crazy! I couldn't believe it.

      Yes! It's amazing how much oral posture can affect the rest of the body! So glad you have relief!

    I got my tongue tie released with laser this week. I can hold my tongue on the top of my palate effortlessly. I went for the surgery in hope of stopping migraine/one sided headache attacks. I still have headaches (2 since the release)
    Anyway my neck posture is visibly better. But I'm also suffering from muscle tension dysphonia and my hyoid bone sits visibly high. I am a 27 yo male, done myofunctional exercises for a year before the surgery and it helped with my migraines a bit. Do you think this will improve with time or do I need sort of manual therapies too?

      Wow so you are FRESH off the chair! Haha. Yes, you still have a lot of changes that will happen in the next three weeks and even more smaller ones for the next six months (which is when healing is totally complete.) Most likely the hyoid will relax downwards even more in the next two weeks. as the the headaches, harder to say, as the tongue tie could be just a part of the underlying issues...I recommend seeing a chiro and a myofascial massage if you can to help speed recovery and keep more potential changes happening. Happy for you! Please keep us updated with more!

    What is your source for the statistics in this video

    • @OpusMyo
      @OpusMyo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are a few published medical articles on over-tight fascia- you can find most on PubMed. (I have a few on my website, although none directly mention singers.) Unfortunately there is not enough data for a statistic at this point- we in this field are in the process of gathering! It's hard to publish a statistic for fascia as we cannot directly measure fasica elasticity; patient's report and rate their own changes. But I personally have had patients have their migranes cured by a tongue tie release and many who have had changes in balance and flexiblity. It just takes MASSIVE amounts of data to get to a valuable (and accurate) measured statistic!

    I was wondering about one thing. Im a clarinetist, tongue position is everything, to pressurize the air into the reed but I'm struggling having a high tongue position into my hard and soft palate because I think my tongue is too big or something. When at rest, my tongue is not between my lower teeth but it rests on top, and when I keep a high tongue position, my tongue just gets hold back from the upper teeth. Don't know what to do to maintain a high enough tongue position

      Sounds like you are firing your genioglossus muscle (which is good) and your myo-hyoid (which is bad) in order to lift the tongue. this happens often with singers as well. Basically you're firing one muscle that is helping you and one that is hindering you. Muscle isolation is imperative for high-caliber singing and playing, but remember in order to isolate, you must first have both strength and awareness. I'd explore taking myo sessions. Even without a tongue tie myo can help with this exact thing!

    Does the tongue tie effect the vagus nerve and jugular vein areas?

    • @OpusMyo
      @OpusMyo  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      YESSSSSSSS. Theres a lot of talk with the vagus nerve and tongue posture. I dont have a good video on that...but there are some on yt. Short answer: correct tongue posture stabilizes the nervous system -> happy. Bad tongue posture -> unhappy nervous system.
