Saludos.
@Swede Potato Pie I heard this song as a boy and it became my favorite of Disney. Searching on TH-cam, I found this version. Very good voice In Castilian/Spanish the song is called, 2 cents of bread or breadcrumbs. The old lady who feeds the birds in the movie is the Academy Award-winning actress, Jane Darwell, who was over eighty at the time and Walt Disney had to personally persuade her to appear in this movie, which was also his last of more than 170 movie appearances. Greetings.
Petula Clark at 87 is amazing. Her duet with Zizi brought a tear to my eye. I can remember Petula being as young and vibrant as Zizi is now. Also, at the end when Petula comes out with the company for the bow. Charlie and Zizi treat Petula with such care. Very touching to this old Pet Clark fan!
How right you are , I think had I have been in that audience I think I would have found it difficult not to have been on my feet when she appeared .Sadly Petula has never properly been recognised by her own countrymen .
At 87, Petula Clark is an inspiration to anyone who thinks "I'm too old to do that". And then to watch Dick Van Dyke dancing on top of a desk in MARY POPPINS RETURNS at age 93!!! May we all be blessed with such energy at their ages!
William Shryock Charlie Stemp is a true star of the West End. Saw him starring in Half a Sixpence a couple of years back. He’s hugely talented and charismatic. He ought to play the title role if ever the musical Billy is revived.
Funny, I saw Mary Poppins in the Prince Edward Theatre in 2006 with her older sister Scarlet Strallen starring as Mary Poppins, Zizi would've been 15 then. And now, 13 years later, she took over the role from her big sister and will be starring in the Prince Edward herself :D
Yes, It's like Natalia Vivino taking over Elphaba on tour who was played by her older sister, Donna Vivino a few years ago. She has got the hat her sister used to wear 😍
Lets not forget the person playing the old lady Petula Clark is a British singer, actress and composer whose career spans eight decades a truly international success across Europe and North America and someone who has sold a mere 70 million records worldwide and at 87 she is still going strong , she is sadly a performer who has never been truly recognised by her countrymen and that should be addressed .
I was in London and attended the performance on November 14, 2022.the eve of Petula Clark's 90 th birthday. There was a huge on stage celebration of Petula at the curtain calls, overseen by Cameron Macintosh. This tribute was much deserved and very well done. Doing 8shows a weekat the age of 90...unbelievable! When will Petula get her damehood?
As a huge fan of the original movie, may I just say that this performance is amazing! The actors are incredible, such amazing voices! And this stays true to the movie while being different at the same time, brilliant.
I adore this take on The Bird Woman! Petula Clark’s beautiful performance lends both a heartwarming tenderness and joyous vibrancy to the role and emphasise the essential message of humanity. And I love the costume design. Rather than just your typical rag-and-shawl dress, you can guess by the gown and the fancy embroidery and locket that the Bird Woman was once a wealthy lady who couldn’t bear to remain in the snobbery of the upper class, rather like Oscar Wilde’s Happy Prince. And notice how her hat’s designed like a nest so the birds might have a comfy rest in it! The intricate detail is truly magical!
This was much better than I had hoped. Seeing Petula still with that twinkle in her eye brought tears to my eyes. I saw Charlie Stamp on Hello Dolly in NYC. He is even better here. Zizi was lovely.
Zizi Strallen has the best theatrical face, best theatrical voice, timing, posture, smile and dance moves. She was born for the stage and performs everything in a light hearted manner. She is the modern Gertrude Lawrence.
She sings much better than Gertrude Lawrence! I once saw "Star!" a biopic about her. She was played by Julie Andrews, another artiste with a great voice.
I saw this on press night and it was INCREDIBLE, I absolutely love theatre and Mary poppins was always one of my top Disney movies as a child. The magic they bring to the stage is amazing and the entire cast - children included! - are super talented. Thoroughly enjoyable, I’d urge anyone who can to go and see it!!!!!
I saw the show two weeks ago . Amazing . Petula Clark was stunning as were the rest of the cast . At 87 we should be very proud of her. Performing at high level for 80 years now,
I recently went to see Mary Poppins in London and it made me feel like a kid again. It was so magical and Zizi Strallen was almost as good as Julie Andrews herself. Loved the show. Hope I get to see it again one day.
What I love about this is that the actress playing Mary Poppins resembles Mary Poppins as she was illustrated for the original books. Just with makeup. And her energy is perfect and her voice is lovely. This is the performance I wish I would have seen in person.
this was the very show that got me into musical theatre. my uncle and my aunt got me a ticket and i saw this when i was 8! Zizi is the best Mary Poppins and i actually met her live once after the show! x
Wow... Feed the Birds is one of few songs that always make me feel very emotional, often makes me cry a little. Petula Clark was amazing and made me feel this version deep.
I haven't watched this in a few months. It is a joy to watch and much needed right now. Kudos to the entire cast...especially the glorious Petula Clark.
I have being seeing "Mary Poppins" with Scarlett Strallen in London and then I went to see "Mary Poppins" with Zizi Strallen in Bradford in Yorkshire in England in the UK in 2006 and 2016 around 10 years ago, I have enjoyed myself seeing it and it's done, part of the history forever and the memories are made of this.

This song is so freaking beautiful. No wonder it’s sad to be Walt Disney’s favorite song.Great performances all around.
That Petula Clark voice still can blow the back doors off the theatre. Charlie is some dancer... and singer and Zizi too.
