I have been following all your videos and done alot of the stuff you have done on my roadglide only issue is What is the model number you use on the ds18 tweeter I order a pair and they look bigger than the tweeter hole. I am using the advance black 8" lids
Steve, does the DS 18 fit in the lids without modifications to the lid hardware? I ask because I have some PRVs an part of the hardware in the lids is blocking the speaker from laying down flush on the lid. If the DS 18 will go in without modifications I buy them instead. Some guys told me no matter what speaker I get I will have to modify the hardware..is that the case?
I built custom spacer rings from osb for the ds18...I currently have the prv 8's in my road glide and on the one side I clipped off the the little metal tab that is on the speaker basket. I trimmed the plastic back on the edge of the hardware where the cable runs through it. It wont effect it..its just a channel for the cable and then I slid the speaker in at an angle and pushed it down...screwed it in and done. Any style 8" lid in the 14 up bikes will have that one touch hardware that will be in the way...I havent had a set of speakers yet that just dropped right in these or any other 8: lid that I didnt have to modify something. The ds18s went in easier but the grills would not fit down in the hole right so thats why we did the spacers.
yes they have color matched, chrome , black covers and any speaker lid, including harleys will leak if you get enough rain hitting them..I recommend getting some lid covers from SKN-IT lid covers in case you get caught in the rain
You can get speakers grills to protect the speakers like any other speaker. As far as weather...get some lid covers from SKN IT. Its the nature oif the beast, give some take some...if you want bigger audio then you spend an extra 35 bucks and get covers in case you run into rain.
Hey Steve, I came across an issue that I’m hoping you can help with. I just got the advanblack 8” speaker lids and I installed them with DS18 Pro audio speakers like you did but when my speaker grills arrived today (also ds18) the grill won’t sit flush on the speaker. Do you know of a speaker grill that will work? Thanks in advance sir
I have heard guys are using spacers on the underside of the speakers to raise them up over the lip. I hope this helps. I’m probably going to have to do the same when mine arrive.
yes you can if you change the bags and hardware with it. You cant put just the lids on the 13 down bags though. The whole system has to be changed to the newer style and then adjust your front bracket to fit the newer bags ..watch my video here. th-cam.com/video/LcNaO-r0Kkc/w-d-xo.html
In the SG we have 3 amps in the fairing, all of them are cerwin Vega B52's However those are about to get ripped for an overhaulnot that they are bad..they are still going strong but im replacing them with Sound Digital EVOX 400.4's Before the EVOX they were pretty big and there was no way of getting 3 in my fairing but with their small size of the EVIX its possible now.
@@tedrucker6091 no...for the ds 18 all you need to do is trim out the re enforcement pieces inside the pod..i just dremel them out..no need to cut a hole or delete the pods..i use a dremel tool and a cut off bit...score it and break it out with needle nose pliers.
No these are for 14 and up..You can add the 14 up and bags, lids and hardware and mount them to your 09 to 13 model. but you have to do it all...bags, one touch hardware and then the lids with a small modification to the front mounting bracket.
These were the Pro gm 8 but they are a mid range speaker and not a mid bass..you are better off going with a mid bass 8 and a tweeter and ds18 does not make a mid bass 8 that will fit in these lids..the ones they have called the troublemakers will not fit. Id suggest looking into PRV or Ground Zero for the 8's
with the 14 and up one touch hardware this is not possible...trust me when I tell you, you can hear them. They are 8's and and a bullet tweeter. The right amp, its louder than you will ever listen to it at.
The ds18's kick hard man...I ran them for a few years before switching over to the SP Audios...Great price range too. This bike is running ds18 6.5s in the fairing and lowers and now the lids...2 cerwin vega B52 amps and hit 122.9 dB. Its louder than he will ever listen to it.

you havent done much research on 8 inch lids have you? no 8 inch speaker lid on the market has them cut out. So $500 for a lid? Well damn for $500 they should be able to be used as a truck ramp. That is just for the plastic lid, no webbing or anything then you have to cut it yourself for the tweeter. Damn for $500 bucks what kind of profit are you guys making? Get a Harley they said, spend your retirement on it they said. LMAO.
Yep...its an expensive hobby. You can get the competitors lids for 500, unpainted and take about 15 hours prepping them for paint , that what it takes to make sure they dont pin hole when you paint, and then have them painted. Cost is roughly 700 after paint...painted for 500 ready to put on your bike isnt a bad deal. Agreed, still pricey...but what on your HD isnt?
SO... what you are saying is.. "It's a speaker lid?" Nicely done.. keep them coming!
"technically" yes...a lid lol
NOTE For newbies, it makes a cleaner cut with hole saw bit if you will cover the cutting area with masking tape.
Yeah..you can use masking tape...if your hole saw is fine toothed and sharp there is really no need for it though...doesnt hurt though
Hi, I purchased DS18 CF8 hydro and they will not fit due to the bracket for the locking mechanism. Can you suggest a speaker that will fit?
Looks nice but my wife would stick her foot in the speaker , just a side note I recommend using lock tight for the screw holding the latch lever .
