This man was an absolute legend. Grew up watching him. My brother and I religiously watched his programme. We still go fishing together some 25plus years on and remember his shows and joke about them. Lots of love to the man.
Proper carp fishing! Beautiful fish. Sad news this morning about the passing of John Wilson. I loved the way that he could enthuse about a beautiful 2 pound crucian, just as much as he did about this 31 pound mirror carp. A man who understood that all fish species and their different habitats are important.
To any boy who's dad wasn't an angler John was a pretty good substitute, when I watched his great catches and promptly spent a fortune and managed to catch a gudgeon, it never stopped me or dampened my ambition, what a gift to be paid for enjoying yourself.
The green rimmed hoop net he used was a lb and 3 quarter's so he used to say, I don't for a minute doubt him, but I think more precise weighing done with a purpose made sling has a centralised weighing ring so is more reliable as its supporting the weight properly, but for himself an approx or close enough is fine. I absolutely loved the guy, and its through watching his shows as a kid that I served a long, atleast 10+ yrs river fishing apprenticeship before I eventually went on to specimen carp angling.
@@jonathanosborne4211 lol, yes probably mate. I get the tiddly winks out and we all play for 48 hrs and the winners get to then play snakes and ladders ! Whilst we all enjoy zero % alcohol and listen to gospel psy trance. You want to come?
Loved watching this man. His voice reminds me of nights as a bairn watching the night before my own fishing tip. Rarely caught anything but didn’t matter. A hero of mine and full of good memories.
Yes John Wilson brilliant love his programs and same watched this guy for years. I've enjoyed fishing literally for at least 30 years and couldn't get enough of this guy. And as comments above funny with net thing wet net a pound lol I'm sure they more like 3 pound ha ha he has caught some beautiful fish. The ones I like is the pike on the norfolk broads. As a regular its nice to know that their is big pike would love to catch one similar to what he caught. Even the bream in one of his videos I was like wow weighing something like 13 pound wow a bream all double figures. Brilliant rest in peace Mr Wilson will keep watching your content for years to come.
Brilliant, he was a better fisherman then most people thought, he read the water's and researched it to, back in the day i was in my 20s and watched them all, and used a lot of his tactics and they all worked, Thank you for all you did for fishing and made it what it is today, very sadly missed but never forgotten, Thank you
I remember watching these on the telly with my mate. We used to impersonate the old fellas straining sounds. 30 years later Oooerrf reaching for my phone.lol lovely
I remember this catch well, I was in awe at that carp...you would be lucky for tactics like that to work these day's, I've done plenty of stalking and fish are very wary now from angling pressure
Even in the afterlife the guy is so fun, plus he knows his stuff, grew up watching his series and just decided to see if youtube had any videos of this fishing genius, lo and behold........
In my experience, 30lb carp are the perfect size. I've caught 11 fish over 40lbs, and they can be quite lethargic. Kind of like winding in a sandbag. 30lbers are big strong and heavy, but still very energetic and fight hard. I am by no means a professional but that is my personal opinion from experience
Its john Wilson Heritage Carp 1¾Ib t/c. (Whr115) Unfortunately its long sine out of production, but they appear occasionally on a certain auction site. Its a beautiful rod, with a wonderful through action, and it punches well above its weight....
@@bigmoney2266 I sent my lad over for an autograph and chat to him. He was abrupt and made him cry. When someone else went across he gave them a bollocking and said he was filming. He then g it the bailiff to come across and he took over the whole side to the lake so he wasn't disturbed. And if u read other ppls accounts it seems it wasn't the 1st time he behaved so naty aswell
Chris Yates caught his 50 pounder on 8lb line. Crazy the tackle people use these days. Sort of weight you'd use fishing in the north sea for cod. Snap off with some of the weights people use these days and someone could be dead.

Mr. Wilson. Great entertainer...sadly missed.
Never over complicated fishing techniques or rigs put the real fun into fishing

I often went in his shop in the 80's. We were just high school kids asking about big Tench, Pike and Bream, and John always had time for us.
What a way to describe the fish’s scales, like beer mats, classic John. RIP sir

The fish was dead by the end!
Always fibs on line poundage ....
No he doesn’t,he plays fish as intended and doesn’t drag them in on 20lb line or 50lb braid like you noddies
Well said mate 👍
Id like to hear some evidence because even 50lb carp can be comfortably landed on 8lb line
don't think he enjoyed other folks company much
