I served in the British Army for well over 10yrs from 97 onwards.
I saw several theatres of war spanning Iraq, Afghan and such like.
I served as a sniper, witnessing the worst of man.... and having to kill people on order.
I've been slashed, stabbed, shot.... had mortars fired in and around our position.
But nothing scares me more than Nuclear Attack.
It is the fact you CAN NOT DO A THING to combat it.
If you're lucky enough to be in the blast radius, then you'll either flash boil from the core or be blown to bits.
If you're not lucky enough to be killed instantly, then you will suffer agonising pain through Nuclear fallout..... and watching everything you know and love slowly rot away and die.
I am hoping that the very notion of the no win scenario would be the reason a Nuclear War will never happen.

To my knowledge, what radiation does is destroy your body at a cellular level. The energized particles literally rip apart your chromosomes, which are basically the set of instructions your cells use to repair and duplicate themselves. When the chromosomes of a cell are damaged, every new cell made by onwards carries on that damage, some cells even lose the ability to multiply entirely. In bad cases, muscles, and organs begin necrotizing, your skin literally detaches from your body and falls off, because your cells aren’t being renewed properly when they eventually die. Your ability to make white blood cells diminishes, so your already weak and rotting body becomes even more vulnerable to infection. It’s a slow and painful death, we have treatments for radiation poisoning now, but they basically amount to treating the symptoms so that your body might survive long enough to recover on its own.

Although a dramatized one, this is a grim and horrible reminder that nuclear warfare is something no nation of man will ever be able to bear. It’s a power so terrible, it can only be described as every disaster occurring at once. It would be similar to a fire, then a tsunami, then an earthquake, a plague, a famine, and a hurricane emerging at the same time. The effects of it are more than the fireball, but a horrible cascade that unfold into a catastrophe nature itself isn’t even be able to create. Our leaders play with this disastrous weapon like it’s a toy, threatening others with it, racing towards it to become strong, when all they do is race humanity closer to its end. No country, no matter how developed, strong, or successful it is, can cope with such an event as this. Generations of people were left ruined in a matter of seconds. Cities flattened, its citizens crippled, ill, trapped, and poisoned; the world struck by awe and terror, who’s leaders struck by greed for it’s glory. This is the power our leaders play with. Denuclearization is our worlds most urgent goal, yet it’s world-ending dangers are masked by its sublime and destructive power by our leaders. Truly, I believe if Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren’t bombed, we wouldn’t have witnessed its terrible power, and thus wouldn’t have had a reason to avoid a full-scale nuclear war. For this horrendous demonstration, I believe it is the sole reason we have yet to annihilate ourselves.

Donald Erb, an American composer, came to talk before a concert of his music. This was in the late 90s. He had served in the Pacific, and was part of one of the first American divisions to march into Hiroshima after the bomb had been dropped.
When he gave his talk to us, 50 years later, this was all he could talk about. How horrifying all of it was, and how much he hated war. He was in tears, but there was such an urgency to what he was saying that he had to talk about it.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a tragic event that resulted in significant loss of life and long-term effects on survivors and the environment due to radiation exposure. The use of nuclear weapons is widely considered a devastating and inhumane act, and its consequences serve as a reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and disarmament efforts. This kind of videos would help acquaint society with the horrible consequences of radiation and atomic bombs. I read story of Dr. Michihiko Hachiya, a physician who survived the bombing of Hiroshima and documented his experiences in a diary. He wrote about the immediate aftermath of the bombing, including the widespread destruction and the horrific injuries suffered by survivors, as well as the long-term effects of radiation exposure.

◆◆◆ Between 1944 and 1945, Allied forces massacred more than one million Japanese civilians with indiscriminate bombing, a clear violation of the laws of war. For example, the Great Tokyo Air Raid on March 10, 1945 killed more than 100,000 civilians in one day, and Osaka, Nagoya, and other cities suffered similar air raids. Finally, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, incinerating and blowing away hundreds of thousands of people in an instant. Hundreds of thousands of people who went to the rescue in Hiroshima and Nagasaki also died a few months after being exposed to radiation.
