I totally thrift bedding, hundo percent. So cool to see this update today; started my own cold water experiment…again…today. Also you could do backcountry cross-country skiing. If there is snow on the ground you can do it by you, but I know in the lowlands there isn’t always snow in winter. But you can check out to see if there are public lands by you in the mtns that have areas for xc backcountry, low incline areas not prone to avalanches. A lot less risky than backcountry alpine, which you need a lot of skill and training to do safely, which you probably know. I know by me in western Washington there are a few. At the very least you could snowshoe hike mtn trails, that is the cheapest thing to get started with. I’m sure some of your new SAR friends would have good advice for that kind of thing in your area and would be good people to go with. And in future you can always work at a ski area and get a ski pass for free! Did that for years as a live-in ski barista between Utah, Alaska and Washington and was the best experience to go from non-skier to shredding the gnar in no time, lol 😂 💙❄️
