Eastern Sierra Fall Color - Backpacking Sabrina Basin to Hungry Packer Lake

Day 1: Lake Sabrina - Blue Lake - Dingleberry Lake - Midnight Lake - Hungry Packer Lake
Day 2: Hungry Packer Lake - Echo Lake - Moonlight Lake - Dingleberry Lake - Blue Lake - Lake Sabrina
It was October 5-6, 2 days 1 night backpacking trip.
We arrived Hungry Packer Lake after sunset and found that there were not many available camping spots. The only available established camping spot had a perfect view but it was too close to the water. I knew the rule to camp 100 feet away from the water but I had no choice as it was getting dark.
Next morning, a ranger came to my tent and gave me a warning ticket. I could have had to pay a big fine. If you are going to camp at Hungry Packer Lake, I recommend that you camp way behind the lake. It's practically impossible to find a legal camping spot near the lake.

Hooray, I'm glad you got to go! It looks great with the Fall colors. I'm definitely going again next year. My favorite spot in the entire Basin was that creek crossing with the stepping stones at 0:54. I sat on the rocks above it for a while to soak in the view. For that reason I will be camping at Dingleberry next time so I can hang out there longer.
I heard of Sabrina basin for the first time from you. It took longer than I expected to get there. I loved the stepping stones too.
I mat a hiker who explained to me what Dingleberry was. I though it named after a plant. LOL.
@@YongsungKim HA!! Yeah it actually is a type of berry, but not one that grows out here. But most people use the term rather differently lol. I'm happy I inspired you to do Sabrina. It's so stunning. Sorry about the long drive! Bishop is my favorite town along 395.

@@YongsungKim I thought the same thing when I was last there and even peeked at some real estate listings! So tempting. The downside there is that it is pretty isolated from services, airports, etc. But I have eons to go before retiring so there's no use even pondering. Sigh.

Boy - can't believe you guys dived in Echo Lake - it is probably the coldest of all lakes you visited.
Haha. yeah, it was the one of the coldest lakes I've dived into.
BTW, it's not Echo lake but Hungry packer lake just below Echo lake.

Beautiful fall colors, and great video. I was in Eastern Sierra Also that weekend, but did not see much in the way of fall colors where I was.
Yeah, I didn't see much fall colors either in the low elevation. Lake Sabrina is one of the highest places known for fall colors.

Awesome video. Planning to do a trip here soon and will be using your map on AllTrails. Was the crowd that bad that you weren’t able to find a camp spot at Hungry Packer? I’m planning to do a walk in permit. And also are there any suitable camp spots at Blue lake ? Since me and my group will be arriving late and won’t make it out to Hungry Packer first night.
It was not because of the crowd but because there were not many spaces to pitch tents near Hungry packer. Blue lake seemed much better. It's a huge lake with lot of flat surface around the lake.

There is no trail between Hungry packer lake and Echo lake. It's an easy off-trail hike.
You know there is an actual method for using trekking poles, try a You tube video there are several

아 사브리나레이크에서 출발해서 롱레이크 지나 정상까지 올라가셨나보네요!
난 중간까지 올라갔었는데 그곳이 레잌이 많아서 정말 올라가는길이 인상적이었어요~^^
롱레잌에서 송어낚시도 완전 재밌어요!
단풍은 이번주말에 가면 절정을 볼 수 있을것 같습니다. 롱레잌까지 올라가 보셨군요. 정말 아름다운 곳이죠.
