The figs do look really a amazing.. that kid is super cute too. I love how he described the flavors of the figs. And I agree with him, figs taste different according to climate, I also live in a humid climate and I like my Celeste more than my VDB too.. most people prefer VDB..

I like to pick some figs a little early so they aren`t so sweet. But when you`ve waited and waited for the first ripe ones it`s hard to resist because where I live a raccoon, crow, squirrel or possum might carry them away organza bag and all. Celeste, Smith & Southern Brown Turkey were the traditional figs the old timers grew in the Southern USA. I`m trying other varieties but not all were intentional because of mixups. The large purple California Brown Turkey is a very bad choice here in Louisiana but if you protect the splitting fruits with organza bags they taste just like very ripe peaches so I like having the trees. A lot of growers say they taste very bad. Not here.

I think my 4 "Celeste" trees are VdB...or the synonym: Beer`s Black. But they may be Black Mission or Magnolia. I won`t know until they fruit this year, hopefully.

@ celeste is actually my healthiest looking fig tree, it thrives in our Sydney warm temperate humid climate, approximately zone 11, and they are super sweet once ripened

@@supersaiyangarden I`m near the zone 9 line but very bad freezes here make growing a lot of the fruit trees I like nearly impossible. We got down to zero F in December 2022 and it stayed below freezing for 6 days. Lots of 70 year old fig trees were frozen back to the roots. Celeste takes two years to fruit once it`s frozen like that so I`ve been looking at figs like Hardy Chicago which can fruit the first season after a freeze like that. It`s getting colder here. Very strange. I grow all my own fruits & vegetables. I live in a very rural area so I have to depend on the food I can produce myself. Prices for food at stores are too high and our food companies in America are poisoning us. I refuse to eat any of it.

I just ordered two Yellow Long Neck to plant in Louisiana. Very humid here later in the season and these are supposed to ripen earlier and they`re huge figs. Hopefully they`re really that variety. My 6 in-ground trees weren`t the varieties I ordered. Waiting on the last 4 to fruit this year to identify but the trees don`t look like Celeste.

@@baneverything5580 its very common for tree or cuttings suppliers to mislabel their fruit trees, so stick to a reliable supplier, and i believe louisiana is humid subtropical , so cultivars such as celeste,Smith & blue provence should do well in your climate.

@@supersaiyangarden We get bad freezes here in winter lately. My trees get injured each year. One day it`s so hot you`re running the air conditioner and 12 hours later it`s snowing and 8F. Three years in a row we got record low temperatures. So far we`ve only seen 13F this year but my trees got pruned again even though I covered them.

@@supersaiyangarden I just planted two Prime Ark Freedom thornless blackberries in December but my wild bunny friend decided to eat them. She`s like a pet so I just deal with her. They`ll grow back plus I rooted a stem she dropped and have a 3rd plant. In summer I plant vining heat/drought tolerant Red Ripper Cow Peas all over the place and she leaves my green beans and peas alone in my main garden. Plus the Red Rippers grow back after she prunes them and I get a nice harvest. I plant them in my fig tree mounds to add nitrogen to the soil, use up some extra moisture and shade the ground. Then I use the thick vines to make garden compost.
