I have a male American Persimmon that I would like to graft a female onto so that it will produce fruit. It has a large V at about my head height where each branch is about 2.5" diameter. The main trunk is 4" diameter at my shoulders. Would you recommend I graft onto both branches or cut the V and graft onto the one larger trunk? Thank you!
Welcome... If the trees have only two or three leaves about the size of squirrel ears then you can still graft it but you have to graft those scions on it which have dormant buds... It's better to graft the main trunk below the v joint so that a strong one trunk is established...
I am using date plum as a rootstock for Grafting persimmon, date plum grow in wild here, you can also grow date plum plants for rootstock from seeds, and will be ready for Grafting for the nest year...
