    You know, this business of you coming back here from your ‘own time’ and putting videos up for my exact issues, puts an entirely different twist on ‘looping’. Placing them two years prior to me needing them, is of course a clever way to further obscure how you’re really doing this, easily done with the sort of future technology you must have access to a couple of centuries in the future as you are. Remember Pete - never bump into yourself, it’s time-traveller’s golden rule. And yet, in every single movie or sci-fi series, somehow the klutzes manage to do it, every...single...time. Thanks for this, it’s another area I was clueless about in GB iOS/iPadOS. Hey - do I eventually manage to afford some Apple silicon-based Mac? No, you’re right of course, best not to tell me, I quite understand, it could change everything.

      I have good news. In 6 months tome you’ll come across some extra cash and it will coincide with the new Mac M2 being released. Don’t tell anyone though and try to look surprised when it happens.

    Thanks man! As a guitarist, it’s so much nicer to be able to use the drummer feature and have the drum track pretty much build itself! I used to have to sit down and program a whole drum track one drum/cymbal at a time, which can take ages!

      It's been slow going trying to get the velocity,gain, mapping in the right spots, but man I like being able to go in and tweak the midi notes. I'm not a great drummer, but I like playing them instead of using a keyboard. That way I can say I played the drums even if I edit them!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really must get myself some sort of drum controller. Love playing drums but no room for a kit. What model do you use?

    • @chiparooo
      @chiparooo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Roland TD-15kv set. I don't think they make this model anymore but there are updated sets. They were pricey but the quality and durability of Roland V-drums is unsurpassed IMHO. I've played guitar since I was a teen and always wanted to play drums too. A conventional set would have been too loud. So at 50 I researched and bought the Rolands without knowing how to play... Bought a package from Kraft Music online here in the States. One of the best purchases ever! So much fun! I plug my phone in and can play along with some of my favorite bands. It opened up a new appreciation for music too as I am listening closely to the drums now and hearing things I had not before. I also picked up a Simmons drum amp when I want to rattle the windows a bit! Integrating the drums with Garageband is adding another facet of enjoyment.

    Do you know if there is anyway to keep the guitar input monitor live while using the drummer option in iOS? Every time I open the up the drummer, my input monitor shuts off. Essentially, I'd like to be able to play live guitar over the drummer while adjusting the complexity, loudness, switching drummers/style, etc. without having to first make a track. Basically, just jam along like a drum machine before laying down tracks.
    Oh, and your videos are excellent!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words my friend.
      Unfortunately you won’t like my answer, as there is no way to do what you’re looking to do that I have discovered. Once you are in “record” mode on a virtual instrument (drummer included) it will cut your monitors on any other tracks. It does suck a bit that you don’t have complete control.
      So yeah, you’ll likely need to program your drum track first unfortunately.
      Maybe explore some other drum apps on iOS. I haven’t tried it extensively but have heard good things about XDrummer.

    • @giot2627
      @giot2627 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Download ‘Tonebridge’ for free. It may not be the exact same tone that you get after you record it, but you can eat a live monitor while on any screen, but you’ll have to change the tone settings. I use this because I’m really good at recreating tone, (trying to be as humble as possible I’m sorry) but you MAY not be

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alas, no. They are set as waveforms and whilst you can adjust the setting and the waveforms change, can can’t convert to MIDI, which is frustrating because there is clearly MIDI type information sitting behind the scenes here for these.

    • @danny1959
      @danny1959 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can convert them to midi on the desktop versions of Garageband and Logic. You just need to create a midi track and move the drummer loop to it. I haven't used the IOS version enough to know how it works on there.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Maybe my right eye is low down? 🤔
      Don’t worry, it doesn’t impact my ability to make music or tutorial videos. 👍

    Almost there with a 6/8 with some swing in it but it sounds stilted

      Yeah, the drummer doesn’t do a fan job with 3/4 or 6/8.

    Great video, Pete. Just had a problem with recording to a dry click, and now I can finesse my drummer into a great unique beat and lay all my tracks! I recorded and mixed all my songs on GarageBand iPad Pro and used a lot of your vids for help! Thanks for all your work and advice! Www.tonyunderwoodmusic.com

    Don't see Drummer loops!?

      Hey David. Have you updated to the latest version of GarageBand (2.3.7) and have all the latest sound packs installed?

    • @saintsavge1
      @saintsavge1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I have these on my iPhone but not on my iPad for some reason. GarageBand 2.3.7 on both

      That is odd. Make sure you have gone to the sound library and downloaded any packs that may not be on there. Also, make sure there are no filters applied to your loops when selecting them.
