    Pink mold you need to throw the whole thing out, don't even try to save any of it. But the regular like blue/green/gray mold you can salvage some clean bits.
    A tip to see if it's at peak rise, put a rubberband or string around the jar at the level it's at when it's not active (just before you discard & feed), then watch for when it reaches double the rubber band height!

    I am getting quite frustrated with my sourdough progress - first one I followed another TH-cam bakers tutorial and it was kinda meh (it was 10 days and very little activity) until my husband accidentally turned the oven on with the starter in it 😅 I tried saving it but it wasn’t doing anything after that. So I tried again, following different instructions and using rye flower instead of whole wheat. That one almost tripled the first night but after that nothing, and now I had to throw it away after a week, because of mold 🙃 so far it’s been weird hobby of wasting flour and time and still no bread. I’m trying to do more research now to hopefully figure out what I can do better, although I’ve been following all the instructions to the t so idk what more I can do. It definitely is working on my patience lol

      I use a wide mouth mason jar the most, and the Weck jars that I use are the 742, 900, and 745, I believe?

    Do you know if my starter will be okay in the fridge if I’m away for 2 1/2 weeks?

      If it’s strong and active before you put it in the fridge, it should be fine! I would feed it just before putting it in the fridge. You *may* need to feed it and keep it at room temperature for a few days when you get back to revive it, but you may find that it wakes right back up!
