Fun fact; the Speed Buff does not increase regular top speed, but it increases overall acceleration and also top speed while in the air, reducing speed loss while airborne.

@@GottaBeFrank I get it, it is pretty hard to tell with the odd naming and not usually reaching top speed for lengthy amounts of time to notice (actually, some jester powers mention having a higher top speed than base Spark, but I think it may just be acceleration). The scanner helps show how/what affects speed and by how much.

Probably the best game I've played all year honestly. I love pretty much everything about it besides what the extra medals get you.
i kinda disagree with the price tag statement as i think the price is appropriate for what the game offered and for the final level critic it quite literally gives you a warning that its going to be long so didnt know what you`d expect there thats what warnings are for.
The price tag is more than worth it imo.
Not only is it probably the best 3D "Sonic-styled" game you can buy (including actual sonic games), but all of the game's mechanics, even outside of the platforming, are really fun and polished. You can get some real DMC-style combos with the combat if you know what you're doing.
Considering Lake Feperd is a mostly solo dev, he absolutely deserves the money.

In terms of exploration medals, radar upgrade helps a lot. Unless it's Deep Descent, that level requires going so far off track that it's better to just use a guide.
Edit: Initially I wrote Utopia Shelter instead of Deep Descent by mistake.
Wait, Utopia shelter doesn't have any speed, combat, and exploration medals. You just gotta reach the end and that's it.

Gotta say that complaint about the final area makes it sound like you skipped the warning/explanation.
The issue I had with it was that it wasn't necessary, at all. It could have been split up into 2 or 3 segments and it would have achieved the same result.
@@GottaBeFrank Would've ruined the pacing IMO. The final area has multiple, *massive* plot twists. Imagine learning that the entire time you were actually in a **********, and then going back to the main menu before the final boss. Lmao
@@GottaBeFrank It also would feel less tense if it just stops, I felt more in the moment even when nothing was going on just because of not expecting anything, if it just ended and put you at the world map or load, all those emotions would be less there, as you are kicked out from what's making you focus so much
I honestly think that if you have been itching or are interested for a enhanced Adventure styled type game Spark 3 is this gameplay styles peak, not only due to it having amazing level designs for a indie game and the fact alone this game was done in under 2 years by practically one dood

Fall damage in the air? God dam these speed limits getting nuts. Turning the air into invisible knives if you go to fast for to long XD this game really dose look awesome. Gonna have to pick this up at some point
I do find it incredibly bullshit how there’s fall damage in this game. I don’t know if it’s the instant game over kind though.
There are infinite lives, except for one level.
@@brawler5760 Bullshit? You literally have multiple ways to instantly negate it.
It's a mechanic that keeps the player on their feet and engaged. Like the ammo resource management in in Doom Eternal.
@@brawler5760 it's mostly there for a singular level near the end. I can imagine he might've considered doing it only for that level but then it would've been weird adjusting to that after a whole game without it.

Normal fall damage isn't enough you have too many options to groundpound style save yourself

Found this series 2 weeks ago and wishlisted all 3 because they looked neat. Might actually buy the trilogy now because I’m liking what I’m seeing here. 1 also reminds me of Freedom Planet mixed with classic Sonic a bit

I love this game and found everything about it fun. My only problem with it is perhaps the lack of more varied bosses and the music being less memorable than the previous entries.
There's also the fact that this game relies on previous games' events. Although it's unavoidable with the kind of story it was trying to tell, it must take away from the impact of the story for new players (granted I think the ending can be universally appreciated, without spoiling.
Here’s my opinion:
Spark 1: Best OST, Most gameplay variety (Most Jester abilities)
Spark 2: Hardest Bosses, Most replayable (this barely beat 3 in terms of replayability)
Spark 3: Best Combat, Best cutscenes, Perfectly re-imagines the characters in 3D (even though I preferred Fark’s model from the 2nd game)
I dissagre actually. First off. The combat i think it's a point most people don't know that it's one of the things that actually makes spark a different type of game with all 3 games having it as a main focus. I really freaking liked the music wtf. spark 3 is a great game with really not that much flaws but i still think that the first one still is the best spark. i think you didn't enjoy it as much as others because you expected more a sonic adventure kind of game where yeah maybe but it isn't. the price tag in my opinion it's really fair.
I kind of felt the opposite of the reviewer in many places. Loved combat, enjoyed the music (although 1 blows it out of the water), liked the exploration aspects and loathed the vehicle and ship sections. Thankfully you can actually skip the car in most parts (the ship too but it's much rougher without it)
1:48 spqrk could use it in the first game too but only with some power ups, it was there but it just wasn't part of the base form
I think a better way to do exploration would be to make the medals unlock character art or development material. Maybe stuff that was previously only available on the Patreon since LakeFeperd said he was closing it after the game was released. My only complaint about the game is that certain aspects seem undercooked. The levels themselves and the gameplay are S-tier but the game definitely would have benefited if he had created a small dev team to help with things like the world map, jester powers and cutscenes between levels.
I don't mean that as a criticism. The opposite actually. I have more hours in the Spark games than all other games combined since I discovered them a month or two ago. It seems like his vision for Spark 3 was so grand that it would take more than just himself to fully realize.
A good solution for the medals is to save for the radar, combat is much more fun on harder difficulties. By end of game I had nearly memorized every attack pattern. I used to hate shelter Utopia but Ive gotten gud n fallen in love with it. Its the biggest thrill of the game.
If there were to be a 4th game, I'd recommend adding a dash move to dodge the AoE attacks. Seems like those are the more difficult ones to move away from.
don't higher difficulties just decrease your max health?
Just use the radar upgrade for the exploration medals;it's a life saver for these big levels.
It's still not fun to search for them, but it does help track down the hard to find ones.
@@GottaBeFrank The radar actually made the search for the medals more enjoyable for me. Welp, each to their own I guess.
Really think about how many games you can BUY that emulate the adventure style of games with improvement that isnt like a mod or hack of an existing game. Its wild to me only 2 games exist that has that and both of them are spark games
for me the biggest problem with the game is it's presentation & menus , you can't use the restart button on the final area & even tho I think it should be done in 1 go , I dont want to go back to the main menu to restart.
also the game doesn't have a title screen which is just a regular gaming convention. you're instantly thrown into the save select screen. & the worst so far is that there's no insentive to 100% this game or even start new game plus. there is no reward or even a hint of recognition which just turned me off after finishing the main story. aside from that the game is amazing

I'd say it's a better starting point than the 2nd game, but it's also $25. The choice is up to you.

I’m a Freedom Planet guy when it comes to a 2D platformer inspired by sonic. Spark looks much better in 2 & 3 in the 3D style. It’s a shame we don’t have more momentum speed based Platformers. Especially 3D cause sonic team kind of sucks…

It’s a pretty solid Sonic inspired platformer. But I’m not a fan of the medals, and would’ve preferred a ranking system like the adventure games.
Downwarddash originated from the first game but had to usethe edgy jester form / power up

My personal game of the year.
Taking a few things in consideration, A yes this game is short compared to more modern titles but B this was almost entirely done by one guy and could've been priced at 30 or even 40 bucks but it is only a mere 25 bucks which for what you get it is totally worth it
With the Spark 2 levels included as free DLC, the game is worth the price.

Honestly Spark 2 looks better than Spark 3 because in Spark 3, the main character uses a different shader than the rest of the environment. For visibility purposes it's great, but IMO it looks way too cartoony and out of place. Spark 2 looked cartoony AND had great graphics, Spark 3 just looks cartoony.
But don't get me wrong, it's just a small gripe that I have with the game. It's absolutely, definitely GOTY 2022. Yes, including Stray and God of War Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers (lol).
