- I’m pretty awful at all this video and editing stuff so I apologize for that, but this is my box tour. I’ve got a big list of things I want to get still, but if any of you other heavy equipment guys see or can think of anything I should add let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching.
Edit: Just realized I skipped my top drawer of the third bank, but that drawer has my 3/4 deep sockets from 7/8" to 2" and a 3/4 ratchet and some extensions.
That wrench holder from wire is a really cool idea. I will have to try that
first year tech he says, and the first thing I see is toolbox that cost more than my first car. I've been doing this shit for ages and still have my US General from like 1995 haha. Granted, most of my shit sits on a shelf, most of the wrenches we use are 2-5 inches and around 6 feet long.
I also use the Romex wire wrench holders. I like it so much more than the Ernst rails I had and was able to fit a lot more in my box.

Biggest wrench i used was a snap on 2 3/8" wrench for adjusting the cutting knife on a bailer in the scrap yard i work in, also have a sk 2 3/4" for some hydraulic lines on another bailer, both machines were made by harris in the early 70's.
Awesome man! I wish the Matco wrenches were still made by Armstrong. They were one of my favorites. Have a hard time justifying the price now for Taiwan wrenches
Michael Pine Yeah I agree, if I hadn’t gotten them through school they wouldn’t have been my first choice either. Haven’t had any issues performance wise, but a lot of their stuff is way overpriced for being Taiwan stuff.

1-7/8 and 2 inches are the biggets wrenches i use for hoses jd is mostly sae on hoses
Metric i dont use anything bigger than a 24mm

30mm wrench for installing blades on dozers other than that you don’t need any bigger metric wrenches!

the biggest size of wrench that i have used on John Deere is a 32
Only time ive needed anything bigger than 30 mm is for working on larger sennebogen or leihbherr equipment. I have also had to have up to a 40 for working on certain garbage truck bodies but not often

Biggest wrench I used was 55 for a crusher
Every once in a while I get something needing a 37mm on some directional drilling rigs but only on certain models

Love this box makes me want to go back to school do you think it helped you going to school or would you try to get in the field on your own
I think school is a good choice for anyone wanting to get into the industry, because having that general knowledge and being able to apply them to problem solve is crucial. If you were someone who had automotive or other industrial experience you can always apply that knowledge as well. I think if I went back and did it all over again, I would a program such as Cat's think big program or deere's tech program or something like that.
@@ethanvanzee964 As a German, I think the bigger issue is that you've literally to buy every Tool on your own it seems.
DaroriDerEinzige Yep, that’s the norm here in the U.S. for pretty much all mechanics. Some places will supply a box and or tools but they are very few. Most technicians I know have more invested in tools than just about anything else they own.

I mean, why should you then stay "loyal" to an Shop Owner instead of going as soon as somebody offers you slightly better salary or so?
And isn't it quite "unfree" - I mean, only if you have at least the Credit to start buyin' stuff, you can actually become a Mechanic.
The start in a Career / Profession should be possible for everybody. Of course, if you blow your chances - Shit happens.
But to have to go in debts to get started is somehow weird for me.
On the other hand, in Germany you'll first 2~3 years learn the trade before you actually become a Mechanic. With Exams and all.
@@DaroriDerEinzige The U.S is not as great as everyone says. I definitely prefer the european mindset. Makes alot more sense to me.

I do really like the box, one of the few things they still make in USA other than the ratchets and I believe the opti torque pro sockets which are what all my chrome is might still be USA also I would have to look. And I'm not even sure, maybe their USA made stuff is re branded too. Either way I can't complain for the most part for the prices I paid for all of it.
@@ethanvanzee964 When I started my career back in the 80s Matco’s sockets, wrenches, extensions and other stuff was all USA made and priced lower than SnapOn. One of my boxes is a 5S made in 98 and it still looks almost new. I don’t buy anything from Matco anymore. They’ve pretty much become a Horrible Freight store on wheels. I’m not paying ridiculous prices for Taiwanese tools.
@@prevost8686 I’m the same way. Our matco guy never comes around cuz no one buys anything from him. He’ll come around at least if we call him to come warranty something.

i am at UNOH which is very good school and nice thing about that school... snapon tools student price up to 12,000$ max limit and professor is very strict on labs.. they want you work hard to succeed
How is it when you guys find a tool in a machine or vehicle think its now yours?
I ask around the shop and if it doesn’t belong to anyone it gets kept. What else is there to do? Cant return something that doesn’t have an owner.
If someone drops a tool and Is to lazy to retrieve it, shits fair game. Also depending on the area you work in especially at a dealership you may not see the same machine again.

How about leaveing the owner's tool in the machine. If I picked up my machine with stuff missing I'd be telling all in my world and never use that shop again!
We obviously don’t just steal tools out of customer machines. But if I drop a belly pan on a rental dozer and there’s a socket or wrench in the bottom there’s not much you can do. You clearly don’t work in this industry so don’t try to talk down to people in circumstances you don’t have experience with. Thanks for watching

I'll never really understand the idea behind spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on wrenches. While it might be useful once in a decade, they're just a liability in my opinion. I'd rather weld together something that's gonna get used a handful of times before it breaks, than buy a tool for over half a grand that I'm only ever going to use a handful of times.
Also, that Matco wire stripper you have cracks me up, because I have a Walmart-bought wire stripper that looks exactly like it, except it doesn't say Matco. And I mean exactly.
But good collection you've got there.
Not sure what kind of work you do, but doing what I do you’re not gonna get away with “welding up” wrenches. I’m all for being economical with tool purchases, but wrenches are something you shouldn’t skimp on in my opinion. Especially because they get used much more than a handful of times.
@@ethanvanzee964 My last job was industrial maintenance tech in a slaughterhouse. Most expensive and useful tools I bought for there was a good, durable half inch impact wrench and an automatic grease gun. Our tools got beat to hell, too. Very dirty environment, you can imagine, and pretty dangerous.
