My great grandpa, Bruce Groninger, built that engine in his basement. My mom and aunt used to go over to his house to watch him operate it. I asked my mom if she had any photos from that time but she couldn’t find any :/
Thank you so much for this marvellous video which is certainly much appreciated. That was great having that cab ride on the Shay locomotive, what an impressive job the conductor made to build such a thing, fantastic. It seems a great place to go for the people and the price for that ride was very good and makes it very affordable for a family day out.
I've been meaning to make a road trip out to the Rough and Tumble Museum which is on US Route 30 in eastern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. My father took me to see it when I was a little boy back in the 1960s, and I can see that it has been substantially updated and improved over the years. It sure looks like it would be a fun time.
Thanks for another interesting video. I have driven past where this train is run but have never checked out their operating schedule. I saw the railroad tracks and knew they must have a steam train since their other attraction is steam operated farm equipment. It was nice to hear the story about a person building a steam engine in their home and then donating it to this historic group to operate. I only saw something similar to this at the old Williams Grove amusement park location. They also had a historic steam farm equipment and a full size steam train that operated for only about a week around Labor Day. They also offered rides in the steam engine as well as rides in their passenger coaches. I will have to check their operating schedule to see the train as well as seeing the steam operated farm equipment.
The whole concept of a steam engine just seems downright scary to operate, they really must require a lot of talent and technical knowledge. It's no wonder the entire field of engineering was named after engineers!

That sounds like fun! Glad he built this engine for us all to enjoy
Like others who’ve commented…I’ve driven by there so many times, but never stopped. Thanks for another very informative video!
The smile on your face at 6:40 sums this video up perfectly.
