Wow, this is simply perfect television, not a bad or even mediocre second ! What a show it was, and how dreadfully sad to see the gruesome farce it's become.
Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander). The GREATEST soap character EVER! 👍😂 "Stanley Ogden, ya great lummox!" It's funny, but when Stan Ogden (Bernard Youens) moved his chair, I could swear the Ogden's floor sounded EXACTLY like a CONCRETE TV STUDIO FLOOR! 😂😂😂
I love how the Rovers wall wobbled when Elsie Tanner (Pat Phoenix) slammed the door! Perhaps Ray Langton (Neville Buswell) could have a look at it, just in case any lorries ever run into the Rovers? 😂😂😂
Exactly! They should have run them from the very beginning! Although, I believe the early episodes are available on BritBox, if you're willing to stump up for it! 👎
That was due to "the colour strike" when technicians were in dispute with the itv companies over operating the new colour tv equipment introduced the previous year.
That Donelli guy provided the voice of Scott Tracy of Thunderbirds. Almost as funny as Steve Tanner providing the voice of Steve Zodiac of Fireball XL5.
Absolutely brilliant! Sooo much better than modern Corrie! Fabulous, iconic characters! When I watched these episodes 50 years ago, I never dreamed that in the year 2020 I'd be watching them again in bed on a portable computer the size of a paperback book, with no wires and with NO BULKY TV TUBE! Such a notion back then would have been considered witchcraft! 😂😂😂
Omg I was 3 year old then I can’t remember watching lol, wish it was still the same I can’t watch anymore as it’s so to hectic not homely anymore ,I must be getting old lol.👍
Just realised - I never liked Albert Tatlock - wonder how he survived so long in the Street. Probably because he was the only male of a certain age and society at this time and up to recent times (rightly) revered WW1 soldiers. His character however, never appealed to me.
Growing up in the 70s I just thought he was a grumpy old man. Now I've realised that when Albert was born the modern bicycle had only been invented some 10 years earlier. Now there was man on the moon, nuclear weapons and computers. A world moving too fast for him to adapt.
I think you'll find Corrie has "dragged on" for almost 60 years! So they MUST be doing something right! 👍 If you want boring misery, tune into "Eastenders"! 👎😂😂😂
@@marcse7en I see from other episode comments your not above criticising the Street yourself. there have been great storylines down the years but equally some tedious ones , just telling it like it is , as for tuning in to EE I will treat that remark with the contempt it deserves !!
Perhaps Valerie Barlow (Anne Reid) could crash the Mini, tragically killing 💀 Ray Langton (Neville Buswell), then the birth of the Anti-Christ, Tracy Barlow, could be averted from ever happening? 😂😂😂
Oh no! Those two American friends of Elsie Tanner (Pat Phoenix) are taking Joe Donnelli / Scott Tracy (Shane Rimmer) back to Tracy Island! 😂😂😂 "Thunderbirds are go! Destination Weatherfield!"
@@ohuntermc9321 I made that comment TWO YEARS AGO! ... The caption says "Coronation Street" but you obviously HAVEN'T NOTICED that the street behind the caption, IS NOT CORONATION STREET! ... Now do you dig? 😂

Hilda thinking there could be hanky panky between Stan and Betty...I’m dyin’ here😂😂😂
Laura Llama me too 😂 love it!
Stan fancied Betty when she first arrived. But I doubt Betty would of gone near Stan
"Stans always fancied big women, it's a reaction from being with me". LOL love Hilda.
Betty Turpin is from my town! I wish I xould do some of these hair dos etc I love it all!!!
Another person commented how Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander) never seemed to age! It's absolutely true! She always looked like an old scrubber! 😂😂😂
I love Elsie Tanner always getting into trouble
Jean Alexander was indeed a great actress

Why didnt ITV3 start showing episodes from this period instead of the 1980s
Exactly! They should have run them from the very beginning! Although, I believe the early episodes are available on BritBox, if you're willing to stump up for it! 👎
It's to do with the licensing and tiers that the episodes are placed in, it would be far to expensive Nick.
"thats funny Mr Tatlock....I imagine you being kept in a hutch in the backyard"
"its written all over your shifty fizzog"
"Phys'og" - short for physiognomy (facial features).
Not heard that in years.
This is all amazing to me!!
Welcome to vintage Corrie! It is indeed, as you say, AMAZING!
It weird to go from previous episodes in colour to black and white :) corrie at its best in 70s and 80s and maybe early 90s
That was due to "the colour strike" when technicians were in dispute with the itv companies over operating the new colour tv equipment introduced the previous year.
After all the affairs Elsie had - and will have - why is she being so moralistic?
That Donelli guy provided the voice of Scott Tracy of Thunderbirds. Almost as funny as Steve Tanner providing the voice of Steve Zodiac of Fireball XL5.
He did indeed! Read my earlier "Thunderbirds" themed comment!

When Valerie Barlow (Anne Reid) nearly killed 💀 that pedestrian learning to drive in a clapped-out Mini! 😂😂😂
We had a vaccum like that back in them days so did my grandmother.

How can this show so good then become a hopeless mess now ?
A gift it's called gossiping
Top5 Gossips in soaps are 1)Hilda Ogden 2)Dot Cotton3)Mrs.Mack(From Take the High Road)4)Julia Brogan(from Brookside)5)Ena Sharples
For complaining about gossips, Elsie was just as bad.
Love this storyline with The Americans
Love you coronation street ♥ fan 1 micheál
Poor Hilda and Stan.
It's been Americanized nowadays. Oh for the good old day's of the street!
Just realised - I never liked Albert Tatlock - wonder how he survived so long in the Street. Probably because he was the only male of a certain age and society at this time and up to recent times (rightly) revered WW1 soldiers. His character however, never appealed to me.
What was his wife like? Unlucky!😂

Is this the first appearance of Bet Lynch? Can't see her in earlier episodes..?
What d'you fancy for your tea? Cow heel? 🤢🤮
Don't remember Emily living at the rovers,,,
Love the Hildarisms not consianibly?
This episode drags on
True, it does!
It's all over the place.

Significant for the sole reason of being the first appearance of Bet Lynch.
Where was Ken and Val's flat in relation to the Street?
