I hate how if you appeal it, TH-cam can flip-flop, give you a strike, remove the strike, remove, unremove, age-restrict, and do all sorts of double, triple even quadruple takes on videos. But also, why has TH-cam been striking and even terminating channels for no reason. Over 5 of my favorite TH-camrs got terminated, one even got a million subscriber play button only to be terminated the next day. What the hell are they doing
It's because youtube wants to only back the corporate channels, and get rid of all the "average joe" channels even if the "average joe" channels get a million+ subs, and hundreds of thousands of views a day.
They also seems to gunning for YT channels that generally drama free, non controversy and family friendly channels. Many of them not even political

TH-cam shouldn't have the power to just delete peoples income like that. I'm in Canada and don't know the exchange rate but hopefully this can make up for a small part of the revenue lost on that video.

This happened to my channel with a video I still scratch my head over.. flagged and demonetized for "nudity and sexual acts" when pretty much the only thing in it is me walking away from the camera in jean shorts (it was a roleplay and part of the scene is me leaving the viewer to use the restroom). It made me feel disgusted to be accused of something so incredibly false and after multiple appeal attempts nothing was done and I was told by a HUMAN (apparently) that the appeal stands firm. I re-uploaded the video with all previously flagged timestamps edited and removed and it again - within MINUTES, was flagged and demonetized. I know for a fact that nothing about it broke community guidelines and certainly not the ones listed on the flag. It's frustrating and I hope with enough attention something really does change! Let us creators know if there is anything we can do to help.
Try not to screw over small creators challenge impossible TH-cam edition.

There are a bunch of people I watch who've gotten sponsored by those companies. I always skip it but it always feels so gross that companies can advertise it on TH-cam and it's perfectly fine. I get why the creators might accept the sponsorship, but TH-cam shouldn't allow it if they have a problem with videos like August's.

Its not just conent creators, but also their commenters. Comments are being deleted in massive droves, just for using words TH-cam deems as problematic. If a content creator makes a video about Hatler and people in the comment section are discussing history, TH-cam automatically deletes people using the word, and sometimes even the video itself.
One of the factors of this that I think gets overlooked is that TH-cam has virtually no competition. There's not a single social media out there that is like TH-cam. No other website has this amount of video sharing as TH-cam. The only true "competitors" are Twitch and Tik Tok, and they follow a very different formula from TH-cam.
Without competition, TH-cam doesn't feel motivated to make things right, or improve their website because they are the competition. They don't have to respect their creators to be successful because no one is close to them in competition. It's the same about EA and their inability to improve their Madden games because 2K isn't giving them challenge anymore.
It's disgusting, competition or not, for companies to do this to the people who make their money. I wish TH-cam would stop with the double standards of keeping predator channels like James Charles and SSSniperWolf on TH-cam while striking people who only talk about topics without condoning them.
As a content creator myself, I will totally continue to advocate for the TH-cam community because they deserve much better than this.

Technically, yes you can try and compete with them but let's be real youtube has Alphabet Inc (Googles parent company) backing them with basically infinite money so smaller competitors ain't seriously competing with them. If us; the viewers could manage to boycott YT for a month, they would take notice. But viewers won’t do that, they just find the next video in their queue that isn’t deleted. I know August said it isn’t our responsibility, and he’s right, but if something is going to change, it may come down to ALL of us making painful sacrifices. YT have effectively scared me away from even starting a channel because of this BS. And it started with the realization that YT has no REAL people looking at content for anything; they set their little AI bots to do what they do, which is absolutely a joke. An automated computer interface can’t possibly facilitate something as massive as what they are trying to do. Grrrrrrr it’s frustrating 😡

I spent over 6 hours on hold and three days in emails but I finally got 2 false strikes and warning reversed. It's bull crap but I got it done.

I've actually gotten a community guideline strike before. Here's the thing, though, my channel only has about 80 subscribers, I don't make money off of it, and it's mostly just videos of my cats. I have some AI stuff on there too, but the video that got flagged was literally just a video of one of my cats blinking. Like, what the hell?
You can appeal. I know August's failed, but yours sounds like someone spiteful reported you for nothing. Also strikes expire after 90 days. Unless you get another within 90 days. 😳

When the pandemic started, I had a cam pointing at my cats bed and would stream it on TH-cam for my coworkers to check out my cats. After 3/3 streams ended due to copywritten materials, I gave up. No music or talking. Just my cats sleeping got me in trouble multiple times.

One way to perhaps cut down on false copyright strikes: if you appeal the strike decision & say that you’re going to take the channel that struck the video to court to defend your fair-use stance, the striking channel either must go to court to defend their claim that copyright has, indeed, been legitimately broken, or THEIR channel gets terminated for issuing a false strike.
They can get rid of the 3 strike system but they would then need something to replace it.
You can’t have 100+ SSsniperwolfs on your platform or Neons, or Jacks. I’m not talking about Courage or Jacks films, or Jack Septiceye. We’ve seen time and time again what happens when you give problematic creators a slap on the wrist with no real consequences.
TH-cam needs to stop automating these tasks and take a good look at what’s actually being uploaded

This stuff pisses me off. I got my first strike on my YT channel for an SFX makeup transition that the bots thought was "child abuse"? It gave me a freaking heart attack, and my appeal was instantly denied too. YT needs to get humans on there. That said, I sincerely hope you don't lose your channel August, since you're one of my favorite commentary TH-camrs. Good luck.

At this point I'm convinced that TH-cam only gives large creators a pass on their own policies, which is absolutely disgusting. Keep in mind that these are the same people who are willing to jeopardize the safety of Jacksfilms and his family just to keep SSStalkerwolf on the platform because till this day, they still refuse to permanently ban her for doxxing him.
This happened to me 6 times already, for videos that dozens of other creators have. Is so annoying as a content creator to see that you are singled out from literally a bunch.

This is the main reason why I ultimately decided against the idea of starting a TH-cam channel.
I don't want to deal with the constant double standards, incorrect application of policies, and lack of communication.
I personally think that they should make age restriction like the copyright strike thing. TH-cam has an implemented editor in youtube studio that allows you to cut stuff you don't want out. Why have an emplemented editor if you don't even get told what youtube doesnt like in a video and have the option to cut it out? If a creator breaks the rules, then yes they do have to take responsibility for it and accept that they broke the rules. But for those who actually care about following the rules, if a video gets age restricted and we don't know what it is that got our video age restricted then how are we supposed to cut out or fix our age restricted video if they don't tell us what's wrong with the video? It's the same with anyone in the comments saying "Your video is offensive" or "I don't like the video", and I get it like you can't please everyone, but it's the same thing. TELL US WHAT YOU WANT FIXED OR CUT OUT! Because creators aren't mind readers, they just blur out any crap they think would be age restricted and then hope for the best. I just think that if we do our best to cut out anything the is disturbing and we think it's good we should get told what it is about the video that got age restricted so we can cut it out. That's just me. I also think that this whole thing has made creators quit and not wanna do youtube anymore due to how stressful it is and how much lack of communication there is. I can't even make a video without overthinking "Do I need to cut this out, is this okay to leave in, will this get age restricted?" It's killed the creativity of creators and they wonder why most of their popular youtubers are leaving and quitting their platform. Obviously there are other reasons like personal issues, but I feel like it also has to do with the unfair treatment and communication issues. You look at other youtubers and they post a video on a game and so you think "oh, well I've been wanting to record my reaction to this game and since other youtubers have posted it it should be fine to post right?" and then you post the video with some edits blurring out some stuff, and your video still gets age restricted and the other youtubers are fine. Like How is that fair? And especially for creators who are just starting what are they supposed to do once they get a age restriction? They're pretty much screwed as far as I know because youtube doesn't tell you crap.
I hear you. I have a couple of channels, and one of them is dedicated to my AI political parodies and music. I had written lyrics to a song called "My Uncle's Gone MAGA" with a series of lyrics about a guy complaining about his uncle posting right-wing memes to Facebook. At one point in the song the narrator talks about how his uncle is anti-science and now believes vaccines cause autism. SECONDS after posting this song, I get a community guidelines strike. To which I was incredibly baffled, because I had no idea as to why based on my lyrics -- this was political satire, after all. I appealed it, and that got denied (of course). I had to take some sort of quiz to have the strike changed to a warning (and the quiz was all about how if you post content that is anti-vaccine it's a bad thing, so that's how I figured out that was the reason my song got the strike). But if a person had actually paid attention to the song (and there's even lyrics to read along with!) it would have been obvious that this was not an anti-vaccine song, but actually the opposite. So I feel for you, Mr. Duck.
It's absurd how predators can keep their channels without any strikes, while regular commentary channels get flagged, striked, or taken down. Absolutely ridiculous.

I had another channel I did animations on. All animations made by me and trademark and copyrighted under ComputerChick Productions. My animation channel was false struck by someone that was TERMINATED over 20x on youtube false strikes. I sent TH-cam my trademark and all my information and still can't get my animation channel back. The Animations are still on rumble and odysee no issues.
That’s incredibly frustrating and unfair! It’s disheartening to see your hard work and creativity being undermined by false strikes, especially when you’ve provided all the necessary information to TH-cam. It’s great that your animations are still available on Rumble and Odysee, but you deserve to have your channel restored on TH-cam as well. Keep fighting for your rights

Hey AugustTheDuck, I hope you see this comment and it helps you in some way. I felt bad seeing you so upset. Im not a TH-camr, so I don’t know a whole lot about their policies for Creators. However, I am in the Tech industry….You are absolutely right, TH-cam personnel don’t have the time to go through every single video uploaded on the site. So they create algorithms to help them automate the process and “bots” handle majority of the work. And “bots” handle majority of the complaints. So what you need to do is simply modify your future videos to make them “invisible” to the bots. Make sure title and description doesn’t have 18yo+ terminology and if it does, learn what AND how many terms and phrases can pass as “invisible” to the bots. Compare the content of your video to the same video created by Critical and see if there are key differences. This exact formula is also utilized in the video game industry, and something NEEDS to change.
The amount of people who get suspended/banned in video games simply because they said a bad word is astounding. And I genuinely do mean a simple bad word. Not even like something racist or anything. Just saying "you're garbage" is enough to warrant a "hate speech" or "harassment" suspension.
Meanwhile the same game you get suspended from for saying a bad word is riddled with cheaters/hackers. BLATANT cheaters/hackers. Not like "yeah this guy MIGHT be cheating. They're playing a little sus, but I'm not sure". It's straight up aimbot, wallhacks, damage multipler, invincibility, etc. And these cheaters are constantly getting away with it. The only time anything is ever done about these issues is if a mega content creator @'s the devs on Twitter.
I'll use Apex as an example because Apex is in the hot seat rn. I've been banned multiple times from the game for saying bad words and I've sent in appeal after appeal stating exactly what you did to TH-cam: "hey, like, you either need to ban literally half the player base for breaking TOS or reinstate my account because this is unfair". And my appeals go nowhere, my accounts are suspended, and nothing gets done about all the other TOS breakers. All I get is an automated bot email response saying they reviewed my report and the suspension still stands. Using the in-game report system doesn't do anything either, so reporting the other players won't get them banned. And the only way to reinstate an account or get a cheater banned is if a mega content creator gets on Twitter and hounds Hideouts (the ONLY person that's in charge of handing out bans..... one person..... in all of Apex......). I've literally once reported someone who told me to kms, and less than 20 minutes later I got an email saying they reviewed my report and no action was taken. Meanwhile in a different game I told this smoker who couldn't stop hacking into his OPEN mic that if he was gonna choke and die then he needs to do it with his mic off. And I got banned for "violent speech". Aka they sae the word die and immediately thought I was inciting violence. They literally blacklisted the word die in a video game about shooting and killing people. That's some 1,000 IQ shit right there.
Either these corporations need to hire ACTUAL people to review things, or don't even bother trying to suspend people. Because nothing is ever fair and unless you're popular you're completely screwed.

I hate how TH-cam treats channels as just a way to share videos when in reality, some people make a living off of TH-cam (including yourself)! Just three strikes and your forced to do a regular 9 to 5 job.
I have a channel where I share archived news stories, I add a little context etc. the news channels I take from are major broadcasters that allow their reports to be shared, they just show as ‘copyright/no action’.
Now, most of those reports get locked down as adult content, whilst the news broadcasters aren’t. I’ve tried debating it, but TH-cam won’t budge.
So the exact same footage and report with a little context about the dates and history after the report get locked down.
I choose to mark a percentage as adult, as I don’t want youths seeing it… but the majority are TV broadcast news reports.
It’s crap.

TH-cam has become a shell of its former self. I can’t believe how many creators left the platform or got banned for ridiculous reasons. For example, CoryxKenshin and Stevewilldoit.
Sorry you're dealing with this. I never had a community strike, but back before they changed monetization rules and tiny channels like mine could earn some pocket change from our videos, I got a copyright strike and had my channel demonetized. What was the copyright strike against? The birdsong in the background of a vlog I made... in my back yard. Literal birds singing in the background and some bot claimed a copyright on it. It took me 6 months to fight that. So, yeah these shenanigans from TH-cam are definitely nothing new. I'm almost glad they changed TH-cam monetization rules and forced me into a different creative direction. Now I don't have to put up with all that, and I'm a published author (so, yay!).
I feel like the people at TH-cam need some kind of rude awakening, or just have a way to experience what content creators experience, then maybe they would gain some kind of empathy or understanding towards them.
The ONLY fix will be a website that does the same thing as youtube, but is better to creators and pays proper attention to these types of issues or simply doesn't have these problems.

TH-cam's inconsistency and lack of support for creators is beyond frustrating. It's about time they start listening to the community that is essentially running their platform.
youtube has the resources to deal with something like this, it's time for youtube to finally do something about their system and not just twiddle their thumbs anymore.
I honestly feel so bad for you August. And so many other content creators out there who have similar or smaller audiences and influences than you. I agree 100%. TH-cam definitely needs to go through their entire system and revamp it. Especially their Community Guidelines. And I wish they will at least be a few real humans actually going through each appeal or copyright claim to lessen the amount of false actions we’ve had this year. Really, it's because TH-cam and, by extension, Google are biting the hands that are feeding them. As August mentions in this video, he and other content creators are quite literally Google's main source of income and they're also making TH-cam billions upon billions of dollars each year. Without this source of income, Google just wouldn't exist today.
Two weeks ago today, an animator on TH-cam by MayhemTown with around 30K subs had his channel wrongfully terminated without warning, because of a censored sexual joke video he made. I didn't see the video as I was asleep at the time. He had posted it to Newgrounds the same day too and either he removed it or it got taken down on there too
TH-cam Guidelines are so stupid. I can’t believe they let kids content have sexual content in it and then TH-camrs who do nothing wrong get a strike. So dumb.
I honestly don't know how to respond to this. TH-cam NEEDS to work on their poor moderation, many content farm channels have made tons of inappropriate content NOT MADE FOR CHILDREN and yet they are still "made for kids" but some stupid video made by a normal guy stating his opinion on TH-cam is considered "strange and inappropriate" this is so messed up and the moderation difficulties are definitely to blame.
I have been reported 3 times by someone in the last couple weeks for "violating community standards" with my comments. "harassment and bullying".

I never know which comment is the one that banned me for a day....but this last one, I got a reply to a comment that I left and when I went back to see what I said, my comment wasnt visible. I think that is the one that someone took offense to, but I never know.
It might have been key words. I tried saying "pew pew" instead of firearm or the "g" word.....they dont seem to like that. You can cuss, but you cant seem to reference to past dictatorship of Germany without problems either. Like calling someone part of the regime.

I personally think that these content creators need to start lawyering up and threatening the platform with legal action for false strikes. It makes up and coming TH-camrs wary of making certain content. Even fair use is questionable at times, especially when another TH-camr gets in their feelings and uses TH-cam's poor system against them.

Way back in the day, I had a semi-successful youtube channel making AMVs & abridged anime shorts, however when the copyright restrictions came out my channel got shut down immediately with no chance for me to fight it. I tried to appeal stating that I was using transformative media but they didn't care enough to even respond. I got 3 strikes on the same day, and bam I was done. My channel of 185k subscribers got deleted, and I was forced to make a new channel about costume making, however that never went anywhere and was ultimately abandoned, and serves only as an archive now. TH-cam is hard, and it's not getting any easier. So I can confirm first hand how bad youtube's customer service is, and how you quickly everything can end without you having any power to stop it.
The used to have a trusted flaggers program that was a group of people that served as the moderation team of TH-cam. A while ago TH-cam axed the entire program and replaced it with AI.
I want on reporting rampage reporting all videos that blatantly violated TOS would never see them get deleted. And a few days later the same videos I reported were recommended to me again and again.
One time the system even threaten me saying that spamming complaints could get me strikes. Which showed and proved that they don’t care.
There is adult content that is not blurred and full sound on this platform. Not age restricted either. And I’m thinking to myself wow so even children have probably seen this unfiltered.
This is similar in Facebook where I reported several pieces of content there and Facebook replied back saying it’s not against terms of service and it will not be blocked.
Social media has become the new adult content portal.
But also a portal where you can say anything regardless of the damage it’ll cause and social media will not punish you for it.
It’s sickening.
