How did the San Jose Sharks leave their goaltender out to dry this badly? In a game where they'd eventually lose 10-1? We'll talk San Jose Sharks versus Vancouver Canucks and more on today's NHL hockey video!

San Jose could use Patrick Kane but that's the tip of the iceberg.
The Team is Protesting Bad Management.
A bad Coach causes Injuries to go Up and the Players are getting Frustrated with all this Bad Management in the NHL.
Bro, the Canucks players showed more concern for the Sharks goalie than the Sharks, and the sad thing is they know it. That's why no one got their head caved in.
Still waiting for that Esport channel
To be so disengaged in the game you don't even notice your goalie getting bonked is an incredibly bad sign, the whole team has already given up on the season.
He noticed, he just probably didn't say anything because they were up by 10 fucking goals. It's a courtesy.
@@stevebanning902 I think OP was talking about SJ players not helping their own goalie after getting bonked. The fact it was ONLY Vancouver players checking on him was kinda sad sight to see.
With how SJ has been playing it wouldn't surprise me if they'd get all their asses kicked in a fight, too. @@dyslxeic
😢
@@stevebanning902to be fair, Kunin asked for a fight with PDG and pretty sure he didn’t even get to throw a punch before PDG took down. I think that was after the collision though. So yeah, you’re absolutely right about that.
I feel so bad for Kaapo Kahkohnen. He was so good for us in Minny as a backup, especially when Talbot got injured and he needed to step up. He's a good goalie, same with Mackenzie Blackwood. They're just getting hung out to dry because there is NO defense in San Jose. It really sucks to see it.
this
IKR? I'm a Sharks fan, and the only players on the team that look like they're playing hockey are the goalies. Blackwood is the only reason why the Sharks even made it to OT once so far this season. I don't want these good goalies to get weaker or injured just because the rest of the team can't do shit.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Blackwood ends up fighting an opposing skater by the end of the season. This is the kinda team that needs a Sean Burke/Ray Emery type in net who are legit tough guys who can really fight.
This team can’t be trusted to protect their tendy. If I’m Kappo, I’m never looking at those dudes the same tbh.
It figures how we finally get good goaltending the one year we dont have a team
@@bigecheez1 That's the most ironic part about this whole team.
I kinda know what it feels like as I'm a Habs fan, but man I feel terrible for San Jose fans right now. This team is an absolute joke.
Don't be. We're loving it. We've been waiting for a few years to really commit to a rebuild.
I wonder if there is anyone named "Connor" coming up in next year's draft. 😂
Most of us have actually wanted this since 2020, maybe not this bad, but the rebuild was desperately needed.
Being a habs fan is definitely worst than being a san Jose fan
The Buffalo Sabres are an absolute joke, not the Sharks.
I think the bigger disgrace is that they are only 4 points behind Edmonton. How is Edmonton, a team with McDavid and Draisaitl, only 4 points ahead of a team that doesn't have a single win in 10 games.
By having 2 wins in 10 games 🥴
Same came be said for the Penguins. Crosby and Malkin are still just as great as they were 15+ years ago, but they're dead last in the East. Ugh....
A 4 point difference 10 games in vs 20 games in is very different
@delilahknight6068 Hey, I'll have you know theyre only 9 games in. Totally makes it excusable
I mean to be fair the Canucks Dismatled them in nearly the same fashion and broke the Oilers. But Beside Mcdavid and Draisaitl Edmonton is equally bad as the Sharks. The teams know if you Shut down those two Edmonton can't do anything.
Poor little Sharks kid that had a sign that said it was his first Sharks game ever 😢
(Next game)
*KID:* **holds up sign - "That's it. The [insert non-Sharks team here] are my new favorite team. You guys suck!"**
He deserves a lot of props if he ever comes back this season.
Villain origin story
You wanna know how I got these scars? @@RevanBC
Man, that's a really depressing mental picture. But the kid probably loved it anyway. It's probably dad's wallet I should feel sorry for.
I thought I was the only one confused about Kuzmenko hitting the goaltender. Props to him and the rest of the canucks for making sure he was alright, but holy shit if the opposing team are the ones that are making sure YOUR goaltender is okay after contact with another player, you've got serious internal issues. I know they're tanking and it must feel horrible for the players, but surely that doesn't just slide in the locker room or goes under the radar from the coach.
Honestly feel so bad for both their goalies. Team won’t back him up on defense or even physically. This shit is how goalies end up fighting a forward eventually.
San Jose's owner & GM don't care. Whole franchise is a tire fire at this point. I can't wait to see UrinatingTree's vid covering them, it will be hilarious
Even took forever for the trainer to get out there lol
@@frederickglass1583 That's also the video I'm waiting for. But even though the entire team is a train wreck right now, you should still keep it professional as a team. These players are still getting paid millions of dollars to lose 82 games, might as well care about your teammates.
It looked to me like Kuzmenko tried to avoid the contact. I thought it showed great character when he was immediately trying to break away from the celebration to check on Kap, unlike the SJ teammates who were like, ‘Oh well’.
+respect to Kuzmenko and the Canucks for immediately checking on Kahkonen
Also, it was an accident, this video doesn't have to call for the teammates to brutalize someone for that. Stand up for each other, but this is a bad example of when to drop gloves. This isn't like when Hertl had his knee blown out by Dustin Brown. 😬 (Sigh, too soon...)
The Canucks were all way more concerned about his health than his own teammates. They did nothing. That's deplorable.
Sharks were checked out after the second goal let in. Such a bad look for the league
@@westssportscards There are a few teams that need to be relocated to better markets. Sharks and Coyotes are just two, but I don't think anyone wants to take the Coyotes cause they don't pay their rent.
Not defending Kahkonen was the last straw this teams in some deep trouble
Canucks were a class act last night. After goal five, no real celebration, helping out the goalie, not challenging the goal (Tocchet used it as a lesson for Hughes and the team on taking penalties), surem they only really played their third and fourth line in the 3rd, but they were resting players for the next game.
That’s a strange level of pity
Been a Sharks fan for a long time.
The only thing I like about our team right now is the name and the jersey.
Win or lose the Sharks have the best logo in sports.
"if you touch someone's goalie in the NHL, it doesn't matter whether it's a goal or not, you are supposed to have your face, caved in"
The 2 things about that game that impressed me the most (as a Canucks fan), were the way Kuzmenko cancelled any goal celebration because he realized the goalie was clipped in the head accidentally on his skat through and the fact that Tochet didn’t bother challenge the San Jose goal. Both situations were clear shows of respect for what the Sharks are going through. There is nothing respectful about celebrating while a player of the other team is likely injured. There is nothing respectful about prolonging the conclusion of a blowout game for a singular paltry statistic boost for 1 player.
I am loving both the play and the general attitude/mindset of the Canucks team this year.
also DiGuiseppe had a guy in a position to be pummeled but just dragged him down to the ice. canucks showed respect, but also showed they are coming to play, good team or bad
Vancouver also stopped celebrating goals after 6 goals
Imo they should have challenged the goal as respect for Demko and allow him to get a shutout on his record. But I understand the other pov
(There also may be some "He's also on my fantasy team" bias)
As a Sharks fan it's stuff like that makes me not care for this team. At least care enough to check your teammates, especially your goalie. Unbelievably embarrasing
As a Sharks fan, this is deeply hilarious and also sad at the same time. I just wish that we could make the playoffs again someday...
Completely understandable, but I have hope for y’all. I do hope that y’all catch a couple pieces in the next year or so. Also please don’t beat the Pens tomorrow because… I might die if you do 😂
playoffs... what's that? *laughs in sabres tears*
"Playoffs? P-p-p-p-layoffs???? Playoffs?"
We'll have a chance when hell reaches the temperature of an ice rink.
Meanwhile my Soft Leafs make it to the playoffs every season, learn how to be soft right
we also must remember that the Nucks won 10-1 while actually taking it easy on the Sharks. Tocchet rested his top two lines and best defensive pairing for most of the final period, he didn't use his regular powerplay and, yes, he probably deprived Demko of a coveted shutdown by not challenging for a goalie interference. You could say 10-1 flattered the Sharks.
Think Demko is just fine not taking the extra satisfaction out of this one. The one goal wasn't close to his fault anyway.
@@ZaZaBerg it’s easy to over look that Demko made a very good save at 0-0 on the face-off the get the double minor.
You said that a lot nicer then I would have
Class act by Kuzi on that one. Always great to see sportsmanship even when you have a huge lead.
But as a Canucks fan, I feel bad for San Jose. Watching that game was like watching peewee hockey playing against a top-tier NHL team. The Sharks defense is non-existent and cannot connect a pass to save their life.
The big thing for me is that there's no franchise altering pieces coming through the system either. All the pieces they have are either years away or potentially being developed incorrectly on this bad team. If they don't hit the draft lottery or something after this season, I'm not sure what you even do.
so they finish last its not an auto 1st ovr pick?
@@mydogsbestfrenno not automatic but they are the most likely
@@NoName-bk6hn thats insane. i hope they dont win a game this year ive grown from lifelong fan to needing them to do what they do best on my 4 teamer smh
@@mydogsbestfren,
It's not insane... the reason the worst team doesn't get the top draft pick is to avoid tanking-competitions. That's bad for everyone... just imagine a league in which a quarter of the teams are trying to throw their games.
That's why the draft rules are... the worst team has a guaranteed top 3 draft pick... while the next ten teams also have a chance at that top draft pick... not a good chance for the later 3 or 4 teams... but a 1% - 2% chance is still something, right? Lol.
Support ur goalie...sad team...lov 4 kuz in nucks
We all know the value of tanking but at what point are you doing lasting damage to the fanbase? I mean how diehard do you have to be to watch this team?
Apparently, I'm diehard enough lol. Although hockey is my favorite sport to view, I've been watching more 49er games just because of how bad the Sharks are.
This aged perfectly
Would be requesting a trade after being hit like that and only Vancouver players seeming to be worried,.. that’s just messed up… granted I think a lot of players over react with goalie and opponent interactions… but when it’s like that! Let alone don’t want to fight fine but lest check on him and see if he’s okay,… damn.
Agreed! Accidental collisions happen so jumping straight into a fight is overreacting, but you should at least check on your teammate's health! The guy who ran into the goalie turned around to check on him, the Canucks cared more than the Sharks did!
not a player or trainer seemed to care he was down for an extended time after the goal. in reality the goal probably hurt more than the hit.
Update 2nd game they allowed another 10 Goals
wow, they didn't even defend their own goalie?
what a pathetic team
The weird part is.. To me, it wasn't even about defending him. They didn't even CHECK ON HIM to see if he was ok! (The Canucks cared more about him than his own teammates did!)
@@toptenguy1but why
Yea that’s crazy
Back to back 10 point cave ins lol
You know, when we played chel at Uni, losing 10- nothing meant doing the naked mile
It was a really weird experience watching the highlights last night. I was stoked to see the first 3 goals happen so quickly and then when it got to the 5th I genuinely had a feeling of dread, which turned into full on cringe by the 7th goal.
It's honestly just sad to watch... When you can take the joy of winning from the other team, something is seriously wrong.
It was like seeing the handicap kid get picked on. It didn't feel right.
As a life long hockey fan. I hate seeing a team like this. Every player must be depressed. The coaches and gm must be scared for their jobs. No team should get to a point where they lose like this. Athletes want to win.
Dude it's a business, players know this. They knew coming into it, they get paid, top players in this situation will be traded to potential contenders, Sharks better their odds for first pick. This will happen year after year, nothing to feel bad about lol
@@timhenderson9794 Commentor was right about athletes wanting to win.
Every Hockey fan remembers when Roy for Montreal getting shellacked with
goals, and the coach refused to pull him. Roy skates over to the owner, and
pretty much tells him this is my last game playing for you. He ends up going
to Colorado. Sometimes it can be a business, and other times it can be
something very personal. Roy could have almost put any average team into
the playoffs. He was that good, and a very solid netminder. That is having some
serious clout with the owner. I do agree with most of what you state. This team
will have to start from scratch, and rebuild, and find the winning formula. Number
one pick would be a nice start.
Have you met the Maple Laughs?? I mean Leafs??
@@richardcalisi9188 Leafs lose in the series, but at least they win in the season to gain some confidence hahaha.
Totally agree Eck!! Showing no class and not sticking up for your goalie is completely unacceptable!!! REGARDLESS IF YOUR TEAM IS BAD OR NOT!! this team has lost all my respect, if there was any
For some reason, I feel like I'm not allowed to like enforcement plays, I'm a Leafs fan which is a very soft team so maybe that's why, but my London Knights are fierce and don't take crap from no one and I support them
What is it with hockey fans and their obsession with “class” and “showing class”? Enough already.
lol..ya ...terrible thing showing class; it's an old school thing I guess @@timmyboy2495
@@timmyboy2495 You don't want hockey players being human and understanding if someone got hurt?
It doesn’t even need to be a fight. Usually players box out opposing players after the play. And if you’re close to the goalie you get shoved. The thing is there wasn’t even one Sharks player nearby, in fact they all skated away and not even one checked in on their downed goalie. It’s really strange behavior, unless they really hate each other.
Ngl, I believe tocc didn’t challenge the goal because of 1) it was their only goal. And 2) it was to be like “don’t take dumb penalties” to Hughes.
People underestimate how dangerous the culture of tanking can be for a team.
No matter how passionate the person, there's only so much crap you can take before you mentally check out because otherwise you would lose your damn mind.
Idk works for the Penguins 🐧
@@delilahknight6068 The Penguins also got Crosby, Fleury and Malkin back-to-back-to-back, so it would be weirder if things didn't work out for them.
As a sharks fan goaltending has been pretty good this year it’s just the defense that leaves them out to dry for an hour
Classy move by Kuzmenko. He immediately waived off the celly to check on the goalie.
For some random reason I was looking up the GF and GA on all teams the day before the game, as a Kings fan I was happy seeing them 2nd in the league. When I woke up and checked the next day I thought it was a typo that canucks went from 32 to 42 GF, I thought it was a typo and clicked on the Canucks and saw the box score I also thought THAT was a typo as well and when I finished the highlights, even as a Kings fan I feel bad for them. Good Lord Stanley.
I think Koooz hitting the goalie was defused by him instantly showing concern for him. Still, the fact that there's no aqua around him is rather telling... he may not have the respect of his players?
Also the goalie was about 3 feet out of the crease and leaned into him, so I can't really see him avoiding it anyways.
Thats what I was thinking. Kinda seems like all the sharks players are blaming him for the shit score; not bothering to go over and do something about it cos they're pissed at him and he 'deserves' it, maybe? I dunno. If I was a hockey player I'd be a pussy and skate away from everything.🙃
@@saffyrachel To be fair to Kahkonen in the games he has started the Sharks has only mustered 2 goals prior to last nights game, that's not of support for the guy. To not have a single Sharks player check up on him after the accidental contact & only Canucks players around him seeing if he was ok speaks volumes to the character of this Sharks team. Both goalies have had terrible support & the only point they have was due to Blackwood stopping over 50 shots.
Strum said they didn’t see it probably all had their heads down from the goal being scored and Kuzmenko tried to avoid him got his knee out the way but his thigh hit him and he was apologetic
@@delilahknight6068Kuzmenko is not the type of player that would deliberately knee a player in the head, the goalie kind of lunged forward right into the knee. Weird play.
shoutout the fans for the celebration of the 1 goal, was sooo funny
I love how analysts and fans alike expected the Sharks to be awful but baby it's only been 10 games and they have surpassed all of our expectations lmao.
The funniest thing about this Sharks season is going into it I was thinking the first 4 games would be the really rough part. Vegas, Colorado, Carolina, Boston, all in a row. The thing is they looked better in those games than they have since. Way better in fact. From those 4 games I was genuinely thinking the Sharks would just end up being a regular level of bad instead of whatever this has been. The Vegas game didn't end well but before the two goals at the end of the second they were kinda making life uncomfortable for Vegas with their skating. In the Colorado game the Sharks got way out skated and way out shot but they limited most of those shots to very makeable saves and of course Blackwood did make all of them until Colorado pulled their goalie, and the sharks got their one point they're still cherishing. The Carolina game is the only game to date where they've scored multiple goals (3 of them even). Even the Boston game which didn't have any notable team high points still wasn't nearly as bad as they've been since. I was still kinda optimistic, they had played 4 of the best teams in the league and hadn't been totally embarrassed yet, they could maybe not be the absolute worst team in the league. The next few games killed that real quick. The team has given up, plain and simple. The team doesn't have the capacity to be good, but they do have the capacity to be at least somewhat more watchable than they are now. I can't imagine how bad it must be in that locker room, I can't even blame them for having given up. I would.
Bro I had Demko on fantasy I needed that shutout
I watched this game to see if the Sharks were really that bad and wow. The Canucks were basically playing like they were on the powerplay the entire game, it was wild.
You're mistaken. The game was between the Sharks and Canucks, Minnesota had no part in it.

Gah Damn. They got manhandled again. In 2 games they have been outscored 20-3. That’s insane
From a Leafs fan, props to the Sharks fans sticking it out.
I noted exactly this watching the game last night. The Sharks, TO A MAN, have all checked out. I think 0-81-1 is a very real possibility.
Idts if you look at the teams they’ve played it’s been murderers’ row their first games were Vegas Colorado Boston Carolina
This game made me want to go into a corner and cry profusely.
Being a sharks fan is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to me
I don’t know if it’s worse to have your one goal called back or to have the other team feel so bad for you that they don’t want to take that from you.
I’m a sharks fan and it’s tough to watch but I won’t abandoned my team.
When we eventually make it back to the finals & the bandwagoners come out of the woodwork, I’m getting a custom shirt that says “I was a fan in 2023”
Kudos to Kuzy ... showed some character there in an attempt to help out the SJ goalie. Much respect for the move
What's hilarious is that THIS, after 30 years of watching hockey, is probably the first time I've seen an opposing player come over and say sorry to a goaltender.
Not because of poor sportsmanship in all the games I've ever seen, but because normally, YEP, a defenseman would have stepped in to bulldoze that player, and there's no saying sorry when there's a scrum or a fight going on.
This is the kind of stuff you see in a friendly pickup game, not the NHL.
The Sharks don't have a vibrant fanbase anymore. Worst attendance last year besides Phoenix who is in a tiny arena.
No one wants to spend 20 dollars to see them get a spanking
Even the Coyotes never tanked this hard. It surreal that they are 3rd in the Central. The Sharks are at the point where the players themselves have seemed to give up. I hope they can at least draft their way out.
To be honest, it looked to me like the goalie thrrw himself out of the crease into the path of Kuzmenko. By defaul, Kuzmenko was skating to the right, not into the goal or goalie..
So no, in this instance I would not "expect his face to be caved".
That being said, the Sharks should have at least checked with their colleague, not completely ignore the situation
Mate, I appreciate the content, but it's complete and utter garbage for you or anyone to say any player who touches an opposition goalie is 'supposed' to have their face caved in. Like, why would you say that towards any player who ACCIDENTALLY collides with the goalie? At least it was nice seeing a clearly concerned Kuzmenko, even though it was a clearly an accident , where there was NOTHING he could do to stop himself. Plus, at least we get to see some form of decency for a change, and it coming from a player who made the contact, not the usual scenario where players react based on their abnormally high testosterone levels rather than their brain cells. There needs to be some tact and level-headedness and you see that very well here, in spite of Sharks players 'not helping' their goalie.
I was at this game, and I only stayed after the 2nd period just to see a 10-score game for the novelty of it. It's sad to see the Bay Area host two complete wrecks of teams, those being the A's and Sharks.
I feel so bad for sharks fans bro 2 straight 10-x losses
Well that Penguins game was good, too!
I’m a pens fan and we just beat the brakes off of the sharks 10-2 lol. I feel so bad for the sharks but we really needed a freebie win tbh. The sharks are the first team since the 1965-66 bruins to allow 10 goals in 2 STRAIGHT games!!!
goodness gracious, they rally did just let that slide?! me being a petty Rangers fan, I smile at the prospect of David Quinn failing since I think he squandered precious development time with Chytil, Laffy and Kakko. but like i said, i am petty. but this...this is grim. this i would not wish upon anyone in hockey.

The Sharks organisation has really gone into the toilet since their farm team left Worcester Massachusetts to play out of San Jose's practice ronk as the Barracuda.
You might wonder what that has to do with anything, and before the team moved to be closer to it's parent club out west the distance allowed players to develop independently without ownership looking over your shoulder and applying uneeded pressure on developing players.
Now you have management getting hands on dictating how they think developing talent should play, and basically interefering and tampering with players ruining them before they even get a shot with the big team.
Now all that warped homegrown talent development is bearing the fruit of a dysfunctional system with demoralized miserable players used against their strenghs and abilities getting paid peanuts being coached by nepotistic yes men who's only mantra is "Trust the system" and "Yes boss."
Every player hates each other, no one is happy, and no one wants to be there.

When are people going to learn how to pronounce Tomas, he's been in the league long enough
This is exactly why the NHL didn’t need 32 teams. There are easily 40-50 players who don’t belong in the NHL. They have diluted the talent pool and this kind of thing is the result. For every 9-0-1 Vegas start there’s gonna be a 0-9-1 Sharks start.
I agree. You could easily remove 8 teams that are in bad hockey markets and the talent level of the league would go way up. You would cut out so much dead weight.

It just isn't fun rooting against a terrible rival when your team is demonstrably better. Oh, and not standing up for Kahkonen is a crime against hockey. It's honestly sad to see the Sharks not care.
