Thank you so much for your help this morning, it was greatly appreciated. Here in middle Tennessee, we had horrible weather that included rain, gusty winds, and freezing temperatures. I enjoy spending my time in my SheShed creating crafts and writing letters and had planned on spending the next few days in there because we are expecting even more inclement weather. I rolled out of bed at 06:00 am and walked outside with my dog, gosh was it cold. I figured that I would turn the heaters on to allow our shed (it's Aurie's 🦮 place too) so that it would warm up properly while we enjoyed our breakfast inside the house. Much to my dismay my key would barely slide into the lock, it was frozen shut. I called a friend, but she was asleep, so I resorted to my friend 'Bing'. Bing had great answers but also provided a link to your video. I followed your instructions, they were very good, and made entry right away. I'm back in the house and have added you to my list of favorites. It's only going to get colder here in our part of Tennessee, but I plan on keeping warm inside of my heated SheShed, many thanks to you.
I'm about to try all these suggestions. I have 3 in 1 oil, matches, lighter, alcohol! It's cold as heck out there...but I gotta get in and move the car, (parking rules,) plus I have appointments tomorrow. Hope one of these works!
Thank you very much lighting my key worked shit was frozen and not from car wash it’s 5 but feels like -5 outside it rained snowed yesterday n now I’m in my car. Appreciate you cause I was bout to call aaa for nothing . Love this video had nothing but a lighter
Smart ideas, very helpful! I already knew about the prevention but I didn't know it was so easy to get the isopropyl alcohol into the car at the edges and heat up the keys various ways. Great idea!
@@Trials-and-TribulationsWD40: WD is for “water displacement” A warm can of WD40 sprayed into the lock works well. Milwaukee cordless heat gun is good but be careful and not too much heat.
@24hrMrLocksmith Thankyou but I only have is PbBlast. How about 70% rubbing alcohol and gel Hand Sanitizer mixed with water in spray bottle. Mixed by shaking not stirred? Will this diy mixer work too but can water be Warm Hot and not cold water?
Hi Terry. My name is Ramon. I was thinking of using my flamethrower to thaw the door locking mechanism for starters, maybe that can make quick work of it. Would this be a good idea? I’m a pretty good shot and qualified as a marksman? What do ya say.. no go?? Or should I bored myself to death and just thumb it downtown to autozone and purchase one of your recommendations? Thanks for any input!
Question. My truck bed hard lid cover has two locks on where two tabs twist 90 degrees. Key can go in but won't turn the the tab. Any ideas on how to get those tabs inside my truck bed unfrozen? Hit it a few times to loosen and lift it a half inch or so
@@24hrMrLocksmith yeah this Minnesota weather is getting the best of me. I tried lifting it up and hitting the top with my elbow. Also sprayed deicer in the key hole. I'll try to push/pull it tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!
Zachary Cameron Tow the vehicle to a heated garage. When we had -40 for weeks sometimes we just had to tow it to a heated garage for 24-48 hrs. (Usually, because the customer had washed the car lol).
I have a question for you. Sometimes in the winter I can get my frozen door to open but then I get in and the door won't close because of it being frozen. It just pops back open. Any ideas in that case?
3 in one oil works much better!Just a couple of drops on the Key !!!!WD 40 is 74%mineral spirits and 25%50 weight oil with a perfume so you cant smell the mineral spirits and you just ruined the inside of that door
Hey, my wife has a 2015 Mitsubishi mirage. During the sumer her key locks in the doors work fine, but in the winter, the hey goes in fine, but very stiff to turn to lock and unlock... Almost twisting the key itself... What can I do to fix her locks?
Triflow?? I used that recently on my car locks and hinges. As soon as the weather went to 20 and below degrees, I couldn't get my locks open and my door hinges required a fair amount of muscle to get the doors to open. I never had that issue with the locks in the 16 years of owning my Subaru. Triflow is excellent on bicycle chains and squeaky house doors.
Last night on New Year’s Eve my door lock froze I was able to get the key in after heating it up with a lighter but then the lock would not turn does anyone have any advice
I have a question. When i try to lock my car manually (by putting the car key in the drivers side door) and try turning it towards the hood, the key doesnt moves! And also when i try to lock all the doors from inside the car by pressing the lock button on the drivers door, all the doors locks expect the drivers one. can anybody tell me whats the problem and how can i fix it?
LOL. most common cause of frozen doors locks is washing you car. since you demonstrate motomaster lock de icer i am assuming you are in canada. now my most common cause of door latches and locks freezing up is the F!@#$G variable crap weather in canada. one day 50 mm rain and + 5 C, 12 hours later -20 C. the water is in every part of the door mechanisms without the wash. mine have been frozen on nearly a daily basis since xmas . best solution?? submerse the entire vehicle in wd40 and leave it there until the summer thaw.
I sprayed wd40 into my lock and now it won't work. You can't even turn the key. Luckily I did not do it on the drivers door, and if I turn they key twice to unlock the driver's door all 4 doors will unlock. It's been a couple years now that I have used the one door to unlock everything. But since the day I sprayed that into the passenger side door it has never worked since.
SickmanOfVietnam This is Vancouver and rarely do we get totally frozen cars but when I lived in the North at -40 we towed cars to a heated garage to get them thawed out. Usually, after they had washed their cars lol
Well yes that is a very good point, but guess what, I pushed the immobiliser button on my fob and guess what happened?.......The same lock and mechanisms that the key hole turns is the same that the remote fob button activates.....DUH 🤷🤣🤣🤣
I love how he had a solution for every scenario. He didn't automatically assume we have access to WD-40 or de-icer

I can't recommend any "oil" Never use oil because it will attract dust and grim.
I like TriFlow, Lock Saver and some locksmiths like Houdini Lock Lube
I had a problem and the day before it rained and froze the next day and ice was in the lock and the only thing that worked was hot water
