Hi Guys, just to make sure I grasped the concept correctly. Bonding in multiple points is favorable however not with 24v and below? I come the hazardous side of things where earthing is only done on one point in a loop and that is in the non hazardous area of the loop. Regarding the 24v mentioned in the video what do you recommend as a correct method for earthing. Regards Johan
Hi Johan Thanks for watching! In a PELV type DC power supply system, the 0V of the AC / DC supply is internally or externally grounded at one point (generally where the power supply is situated. This is done to allow for a fuse or MCB to trip in the event that the + line accidentally shorts to earth across the power distribution network, it is a fault protection system. With an SELV this grounding is not done and an additional fault monitoring device needs to be installed in the power supply system. The grounding suggestions, requires that in a PELV system one grounding point is acceptable, however more than one grounding point of the 0V DC line should be avoided as it can result in undesired behaviour, voltage drops, digital system failure and damage to equipment. You are welcome to send an email to info@idx.co.za if you need further assistance :)
