    As a first generation hunter, I really appreciate any help as I learn to hunt. Thank you to the Bow Rack and the Endicotts for all the help over the years. I have been able to introduce my son, Jonathan to Elk hunting as well as other young men. Great video, good music and great content. Thanks. Jeff Dahl, Eugene, Oregon.

      I love to hear that! Hopefully I’ll have time to make more tactics films, maybe still hunting blacktail, spring bear, and Roosevelt elk. My dad has invested a career in helping people bow hunt and I’m of the mindset that we are all in this together and anything I can do to help is the least I can do. Thanks again for the kind feedback!

    I started bow hunting western Oregon Blacktail in 2005, Arrowed my first buck in 2007. Bought my first treestand in 2010 and have been religiously hunting from a tree ever since. It's really cool watching deer that don't they're being watched at close range. When it comes to the bow hunting tips in this video I feel that I apply most of what was said but it was a long road of learning from my mistakes to reach that point. My personal motto has become "you can't be in the right place at the right time unless you're there all the time", My butt is in the tree at least 1 hour before sun up, especially in late season. 13 bucks in 16 seasons, but I started letting smaller bucks walk about 7 years ago and I have taken some very nice bucks since.. 13 more days until 2022 Oregon Late Bow opens.. I'm ready.

Checked trail cams yesterday and have a couple nice ones on there. None of my target bucks from last year captured on trail cam yet but I'm sure they are out there. The bucks starting showing some rut behavior 2 days ago on the 4th.; In my area (foothills near Lebanon, Or.) I've noticed the rut peaks between the 14th to 22nd or so. Seems like the big boys always show up out of nowhere by the 14th or 15th of Nov, every year.

      In my hunting vest, I carry a hunting knife set, toilet paper, Sig range finder, glasses, cheese sticks and a 5x7 light-duty tarp in the big butt pocket, and walk with a Trigger Stick tripod, binoculars with the strap shortened just enough to bring to my eyes, and my Beretta 96 .40 strapped to my chest for hungry cougars. I don't carry a backpack to snag on vine maple and fir branches, it isn't needed more than mobility. I also carry a hand truck, nylon wrap sack (old bbq cover) and duct tape in my vehicle for recovery and transport and fetch it after gutting the buck.

    A Trigger Stick tripod or bipod makes shots more accurate, and is great to support binoculars while scoping clearcuts, it's also great when still-hunting through cat trails as third-leg assists through sticks and brush; I don't leave home without it.

    I’m 60, and started hunting BT’s when I was 16 in the Tioga, Powers and Melrose units with a ‘78 vintage compound. I think much of the advice here is sound tactics generally, but the NW units like the Trask and Stott Mtn. are somewhat different tactically than the Melrose, Powers and Evans Cr. units, they’re more densely timbered and brushy, and have more competition, and idiots who think shooting’s ok in the middle of hunting units during open season.
    Imho, another hunt tactic that addresses where bucks are drawn to are riparian zones in draws and basins, with mostly maples and alders, brush and ample escape routes into the timber.
    Locate trails under the tree cover and set up a stand with a trusty brush gun, the ranges will be 0-50 yards, and the ground will be constantly damp to wet, with intermittent swamp, so they will move past like ghosts.
    Stands are great in high-pressure units because you are the one to select the best field of fire in the best habitat, while everyone else hunts around or toward your position, thereby funneling deer into your FoF. I enjoyed this video, it brought back my early days in the late 70’s.

    • @NathanEndicott_Films
      @NathanEndicott_Films  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love this comment and hearing your knowledge! I was in California this year hunting blacktail and those deer have adapted to their terrain and hunting pressure very uniquely compared to what I’m use to in Oregon. That said, every place you hunt blacktail will take a lot of time and effort to learn and the tactics would need to adapt as well.
      Sounds like I need to make a blacktail tactics film about some of these more difficult places. A shorter film that builds upon this one. Do you have Facebook or Instagram and would you be interested in messaging me to share some knowledge?

    Good video for beginners. I shot my first buck in 1992 in the Alsea. Not a fan of archery at all though. I will say you don't need expensive name brand crap to glass for animals. Get the Vortex UHD binos, half the price of Swarovski and same quality glass in my opinion, plus it comes with a lifetime warranty. Nobody mentioned wind in this video. That's probably the most important thing you can do. Watch those thermals around 930 they start heading up the mountain. And last probably the most important for Oregon with all the rain is get yourself some good rain gear. I'd recommend First-Lite. You stay dry, you stay warm.

      @@NathanEndicott_Films I’m afraid all evidence is long gone. I didn’t get pics and who knows where the skulls are. I was living in Craig at the time(for a minute) but basically lived a very transient lifestyle.. everything I owned was in a bag on my back , working on boats and logging camps for 10 years before cell phones were common(late 80s early 90s)

    Isn’t drone footage illegal?

    • @NathanEndicott_Films
      @NathanEndicott_Films  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi.
      Do you mean is it illegal for the use in hunting? That would be illegal.
      The drone footage I used was flown outside of all hunting seasons. Good question though! Also, I don’t personally fly any drones and use it for examples or intros in a few of my films.

    It was a general season until you posted this

      Eric. First, if I had that kind of influence on the ODFW commission then I would quit my day job and go lobby for our general seasons. BTW, were you at the commission meetings to testify over the last few years?
      What is the difference between a film and a book on blacktail tactics? Do you have the same opinion about Bowhunting Trophy Blacktail by CRH? Do you make the same comment on his posts where he SELLS books for profit?
      Lastly, based on your comments, I know you didn’t watch the film.
