    If work is being done remotely at a reasonable level, it should not matter at all where that work is done, period. If the Canadian government can freely allow jobs to move to call centers and to engineers overseas to save their billionaire buddies $$$, when there are Canadians more than capable to do the job, then it is perfectly reasonable for Canadians to do their work from home and create the best balance possible for themselves. Zero guilt. All the more power to them. Company saves $ by not having those stupid pizza team builders. Win-Win
    Managers are just looking to justify their existence. Truth is, low level managers are what should be looked at trimming these days. They produce nothing of value.

      I absolutely care, because their supervisors are telling them for a better service. They need to be in the office. That service, it’s supposed to supply me with the service that I paid for.
      I’m sick and tired of having workers telling the bosses what’s going to happen and what’s not gonna happen.
      It’s pretty straightforward, go to work, or find a new job … and not one of these idiots just gonna find a job that pays nearly what they get paid for doing nothing at home…

    • @MargJorgensen
      @MargJorgensen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RMEMH1 it does affect everything, if their productivity IS lower then it impacts our taxes and services and what the public sector gets leads the demands in the private sector. I’ve had many experiences of work from home calls but private and public and this is what have experienced. Having to wait (not on hold but able to hear) while some went to fetch their escaping dog, tv in the background, another call while school lunches were being made by the person on the call speaking to her multiple children while servicing my call, being told that my call was being transferred to a private phone and may not be as secure did I want to continue (that was either CRA). The other issue is the length of time it takes for call backs during the time must we’re working from home so I can’t imagine that has improved. Then there’s the impact on society in general as work is a huge source of social that has become clearly challenged to the point where we are no longer able to even be courteous to each other. I have been on group meetings and when there is more than one person not on site the meetings become less communicative. This is a fact. That means even meetings are less productive, possibly even losing context.

      The fact is that 70 percent of federal public service workers went on a two year vacation in 2020 and nobody noticed they were gone. When 70 percent of all federal budgets and/or staffing are eliminated, we can start talking about work from home.

      @@sqae8398Working from home isn't a vacation, it's very much doing the required job requirements. If your argument was true, they would have already gone with that, but it's not.
      This is yet again an example of the government slowly taking workers rights away from them. Think about this next time you want a change in pay or benefits from your employer and you have a separate party saying you don't deserve it. We should stick together, even if we dont directly see the benefits.

      @kyletrusler4565 All useful work provided by the federal government of Canada can be done with 30 percent of their current budgets. I am pro work at home. Once again, 70 percent of federal public servants went on a 2 year vacation in 2020 and nobody noticed they were gone. Just because it wasn't a "literal" vacation doesn't make the sentiment any less true.

      @@sqae8398 One cant be pro working from home, then classify working from home as a "vacation". Saying that "nobody noticed they were gone" and that they were on "vacation" because they were working from home is ignoring that many federal programs wouldnt have continued without these workers. Just because you dont notice a job happening, doesnt mean it wasnt done.

    You don't even need to argue about productivity or fight with unions....all the conservatives have to say is that pushing them into the office would absolutely stimulate the local economy around the office and any stimulation of the economy is drastically needed right now.. ...also all the more reason to axe the tax as the government would be pushing more tax on the workers commute lol

    The is happening because of Ford/Sutcliffe desire's to subsidize transit and downtown business. So does that mean public service wages used as a subsidy will allow those workers proportional ownership of said business?

  • @zserbs2326
    @zserbs2326 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The downtown core business support is definitely the key point to this. However, public servants aren’t going to be likely able to have enough of an impact. Also having caught wind of this interest I feel they’ll likely avoid this.

    I worked at home during the pandemic. It was FAR more productive and the employer got more hours from me as I wasn’t wasting 90 minutes a day commuting. Office space is expensive and a lot less of that is needed with a a hybrid workforce. Granted for some jobs you have to be at the office but for many functions, sitting at a computer at a desk can be done anywhere.

    So how is the world so different than 2019 when there was no remote work? Nothing but an attitude of entitlement. They don’t even know what productivity is as reported by the auditor general. Make it 5 days and fire those that don’t show up

    Get more off the road, government should pay less emphasis on safety, productivity and emissions if it isn't willing to quit back tracking on these issues that they have deemed of utmost importance.

    Trudeaus government expansion needs a Ronald Reagan moment. Canadians have had enough of the cost of this governments mess. At least 50% should be let go. The huge increase of the Federal government has not made any difference to the service Canadians receive.

    Work in the office 5 days a week. Where it can be accomodated, workers can choose to work from home in exchange for a "reverse-bonus" of 3% for each day worked from home. Once chosen, they must continue with that choice for at least 6 months unless otherwise mutually agreed to. This would result in salary being reduced by 15% for working all 5 days from home.
