OOOUUU this is my hometown mall! I’m from Ashland! I grew up going to this mall, and now it’s just a sad shell of its former self - being taken over by a hospital!
@@michaelaurban4120 --yup hot sam gone, little Ceasars with the 3 dollar crazy bread and pop deal.. gone. Used to have a burger King in that mall. Remember? Them were the days
I remember the car and boat shows. Boats and cars all up and down the mall. At Christmas, all the animated displays. . . . and all the fountains! Nice video, thanks!
I met my future wife at this Mall when I was 18 and about to leave for the Army over 20 years ago. And that Chinese restaurant has been there the entire time too, owned and operated by the same smiling man and his family too. Super cool guy. He should own that whole building.
. . . at the Eastern end of the mall (where Penny's is now), there was a dip-down in the floor where the men would sit and smoke and read the newspaper while their wives shopped.
Great Video! This was the first mall I ever documented on my channel, and even from 2019 to now, it has fallen apart so much. Back in 2019 you could still consider this place somewhat thriving, and now it’s firmly in the dead status.
I used to be a buyer for Lazarus, when Lazarus was a big deal but left a year before Macy's bought it. We would make monthly trips there coming from the Columbus buying offices. Always liked that restaurant with the view
Came here to say this. Moving back here I've heard that term thrown around. Sad that it's not really a mall anymore, but glad to see it have new life. Lazarus really fulfilled it's namesake.
This was my childhood mall from the 2000's and early 2010's. I haven't been there since 2012 or something like that. So many of the stores that I knew it for are mainly gone. Was Spencer's still active when you went there?
I think you might have skipped the part where O'Neill's became Kaufmann's. They were part of the same conglomerate, just like Lazarus was with Macy's. So, Lazarus became Macy's, O'Neill's became Kaufmann's, then Kaufmann's was bought out by Macy's and Macy's moved down to the old Kaufmann's location. Avita took over the old Macy's location.
The crustal ball is hazy so its future is still unwriten. I see shades of Springfield's (Ohio) closed Upper Valley Mall. They are generally the same era.
I worked there half a lifetime ago. It was still doing well, but early signs of decline were already showing by the time I moved on. Kinda sad to see its current state, but it's hard to call it entirely unexpected.
The mall is under construction and revitalization! There is a new farmer's market open every Friday from 3-7pm. It's going to get back its former glory in due time!
I worked at this mall, and am very surprised at the depth of research you did for this video. Awesome!
Orly?

Mannn I missed how the mall used to be, used to be so fun to go to as a kid now it’s a ghost town, crazy.

Harvest House in Woolworth’s had the best cheeseburgers. I spent a lot of my parents money in Recordland.
Moved from PA to Shelby 4 years ago. Ain't no mall like the Avita Mall!
I remember the mortal kombat 4 arcade cabinet being there when i was a young kid.
Aladdin's castle was so cool!
Dang, it gotten much worst. Sears left in 2019 and Macy’s left in 2021. I’m pretty sure this building will end up becoming a hospital eventually.
My sister-in-law, who lives in Ontario, refers to it as " the MallSpital"

I live 30 minutes from the Richland Mall, and really miss what it used to be like in the 80's.
Good times

Yes Spencers is still open when I went a few months ago.
Same. Spencers is still there. One of the few stores left. Even the pretzel restaurant is gone
Spent a lot of friday nights here in highschool. Being the cool goth kids walking around lol
Its not dead yet.. i live here in Mansfield and go there a lot

You have the date of JCPenney’s wrong. It was there for much longer than the 90s.

Yes it is still open with a handful of stores.
