35yrs as a T1D ..... Wish I'd had your advice at diagnosis. Great video, thank you and please please don't stop there. Australian doctors don't have a clue & I haven't see an endocrinologist since I emigrated here 13yrs ago. I'm doing it myself and following a LCHF lifestyle. Inspirational thanks.
@Helen - North American endos are for the most part the same as Australian. Like Bernstein said, they've decided to err on the side of the typical type 1 outcomes: Neuropathies, blindness, amputations rather than have a single patient die from hypo-glycemic event. Dr. Stapleton, I applaud you for not only walking the talk, but for backing it all up with hard data. (T1D 55 yrs in Calgary, LCHF)
Love this! My son was just diagnosed Type 1 Dec 8th and I am SO fortunate to have found Type1 Grit and Dr. B's book along with other low carb recipes etc. It is difficult to change a 13 year old's diet but the outcome is MOST important.
I couldn’t believe that the diabetic educator’s for my type 2 diabetic husband told us he could eat 150-180 grams of carbs!!!! Oh, my god!!! I’m so glad he listened to me and did low carb/ keto instead. I’m getting closer to ketovore and carnivore.
I'm type 1 and low carb works. Not only less insulin but you feel much better overall. The problem is willpower and discipline about what you eat, which I find difficult.
J Briggs , how are the willpower and discipline going now? I don't have diabetes. However to switch from HCLF to LCHF, I find that I need to insert 2 1/2 days of fasting between the HCLF and the LCHF. The 2 1/2 days probably jolts my body into ketosis so that I don't take weeks to adapt. I don't know if a person with diabetes type 1 would be able to do this. I have non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and am significantly carbohydrate intolerant. Over a period of 2 years 4 months, I got rid of 18 health problems by going 100% gluten free, no cheating and no cross-contamination. Even though, I don't have diabetes, I can sure understand needing to be meticulous and to never being able to eat things again! Best wishes to you as you work this out.
