- This is a Microsoft surface pen review. I have had it for around 8 months now, so I have had a lot of use and experience using it. This thing is amazing and in this video, Ill talk about the pros and cons, how to set up and who might want to buy it.

Does it work with other device than the Surface line?
Is this pen compatible with other 2-1 laptop with active pen support? I have a DELL inspirion 5491.
Unfortunately it will only work on surface products as of right now. Not sure if they're looking to change that or not tho
i really want to buy surface products, but there aren't many spare parts and service centers in my country so i went with hp pavilion x360 (which is more expensive but the pen is not that good). will surface pen work on other laptops?

El surface pen ( pro 4) es lo peor que conozco, he usado durante años un tablet samsung android con s pen (2016) y la escritura resultante es exactamente mi letra, pero hoy día recibí mi surface pro 4 y la escritura es repugnante, pierde toda su expresividad, suavizando la letra hasta hacerla ILEGIBLE. Lo escrito es incomprensible, quien lo use, lo más probable es que quede muy decepcionado. No hay forma de solucionar eso, he visto varios vídeos y en todos los que muestran "escritura", se aprecia exactamente lo mismo. El surface pen provee a todo el que lo use, la misma letra estilizada que apenas se puede entender. Compré el surface para poder usar Word y mi programa de dictado, pero he perdido tomar notas. Una lástima.

Hey, no not at all, I dont have a screen protector on mine. The pen has a rubberized tip and doesnt scratch the screen😅 Enjoy your surface book 2, I love mine!

If you still feel worried about scratching the screen when using the pen with a bare-screen surface, I recommend getting a paper-like screen protector. These things are awesome.
I am using Surface Pro 2017 and bought a paper-like screen protector from Nillkin. Not only does this protect the screen from random scratches, but it really does the job at providing a texture that's far more comfortable to draw on than a slippery screen.
The only arguable drawback is that, since it's technically a matte screen protector, it does affect the display quality negatively, but in my opinion it's to a such minimal degree that it's still worth it. After a while, I don't even notice.
Whatever you do, *do NOT use a normal tempered glass screen protector.* I've tried one - they're horrible with the surface pen. Texture is half-slippery, half-sticky and totally non-uniform. It's like dragging a piece of rubber across a window pane.
If you're having trouble finding a paper-like protector (in my case, Nillkin seems to be the only company that distributes these in my country), then you can try using any regular matte screen protector. Some people reported these working well too.

Hey! Ya, microsoft sells replacement tips in packs of 3 for about $30 CAD. 2 of the ones that come in the package are a different shape too so u might prefer to use those other ones anyways!😁 and thanks so much man!

i just find it annoying how they pack all the best tech into their surfaces and accessories but can’t make the mice and pens rechargeable

As far as i know, there is a AAAA battery inside, which last for like 1 or maybe 2 years
It last up to 1 year…
AAAA batteries are a pain to get since they're not carried in any store. I have a bamboo ink stylus which is awesome except for this one issue.
I've had this pen for about a year now and it hasn't run out of battery yet.

On amazon it cost $83 for a microsoft surface pro pen and $70 dollars for a microsoft surface pen which one do you prefer?
I have a kinda weird holding position, which I lay my fourth finger and small finger on the screen surface. (*I just don’t hold them as a fist while I write.) And with the experience of using the screen pens I got in Walmart, sometimes I would “miss draw”, because of my fourth finger and small finger. Do you think the surface pen would work for me in this case?

How often do you have to change the battery? I just bought one and my laptops on the way in the mail. I had the Pro x but needed to buy a different one because of software issues.
I haven't had to change the battery yet and I've had it for almost 2 years! 😅 So swapping batteries shouldn't be an issue! 😁

Just got my Surface Book 3, and bought a generic 3rd party pen from Amazon. Little did I realize that it also takes a AAAA battery, like the Surface pen, and because of the wieght of the battery, an perhaps the pen's smooth surface material, it just does not stick to the side of the screen at all. How is the Surface Pen in this regard? Does it stay in place when stuck to the side?
Does the Tilt feature compatible with the first surface book? I know awhile back older models needed a firmware update but not sure if ever got it. I wanted to get one for my wife.

Ya, its just called the surface pen. Mine is the silver but theres 3 other colors. This is the second edition, the first cam out a long time ago and you actually cant buy it anymore. Hope that answers your question!😁

It will only work on surfaces, like the laptop, pro and book. Unfortunately no other PC touchscreens.

Thats a surface book 2 you have? I have the surface book 2 15 inch, and I've been having a bad overheating issue for months now, have you had any issues with overheating? Also very nice video quality, keep it up :)

@@Ditterz i found that aiming a fan directly at the heated areas, such as the back of the detachable tablet, and at the keyboard - preferably where the tablet attaches to the keyboard, helps a lot. For example I have one desk fan aimed at the keyboard to cool it, and a small honeywell desk fan behind the surface book to cool the back of the tablet. Also a laptop cooling stand, like with fans built in apparently can help somewhat to cool the bottom of the keyboard, even tjough there are no vents in the keyboard. Just figured this all out today :)
@@Slothups ya I was thinking of putting a fan behind it! If that's worked for you then I might try that, cuz lately even just opening photoshop it heats up a lot.
@@Ditterz one thing you can do for photoshop, I saw in a TH-cam tutorial is to go to the Nvidia control panl, then manage 3D settings, and set Power Management mode to: "prefer maximum performance" and if vertical sync is on, from reading the Nvidia control panel description, vertical sync should likely be turned off too
If you have the Microsoft Complete Warranty for your Surface Book 2, and its still under warranty, then you can go and exchange your current surface book 2 for another surface device :) i might do that
