In 2022, Kalen King led the Big Ten in passes defended (18), adding 30 total tackles (3 for loss), 3 interceptions, and a forced fumble (plus a recovery), putting his talent on full display. While that didn’t translate to the following season, the Green Bay Packers are betting on him regaining his form by taking a flier on him at a measly cost of a 7th-round draft pick, and he appears to be ready to make it worth their while. That is why the newest Packers corner will forever be motivated after being counted out and slept on following a disappointing 2023 campaign to conclude his collegiate career. While Kalen King failed to replicate his elite production from 2022 this past season, he is still a former 2nd-team All-American member, something no one can take away from him. Kalen King is ready to prove his doubters wrong, adding that he knows his capabilities and is “ready to show the world” that he has what it takes to not only belong in the NFL but thrive in it. Kalen King stated that “he felt like the Green Bay Packers are going to get one of the most competitive players in the country, a tough, physical corner, who’s going to give 100% effort around the field at all times and make as many plays as he possibly can by doing it at 100%”. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛
He wasn’t going against the other teams #1
Appreciate the S/O Andy. Been following Pack a Day over 2 years now and I’m just now becoming a member haha
IN GUTE WE TRUST!!! GO PACK GO from Lowell, Massachusetts.
Didnt know about him till we drafted him but from everything I've heard he sounds like an absolute steal
I don't know who Boomhandle is but he's my favorite supporter. It's a great name and I salute you. Go Pack Go
Morning sunshine, I’ve been waiting on this video more than any other video not named Cooper
A good player with a chip on his shoulder is hard to beat. Thanks as always Andy.
He ran a 4.61 at the combine but a 4.52 at his pro day. Not great but enough to be effective. Casey Hayward played a long time at a high level with the same measurements and comparable acombine results. King is a really good player, just needs to get his confidence back and some coaching.
I love getting Kalen King and Carrington Valentine in back to back 7th rounds. Hopefully King will excel but versatile backups are valuable as well.
Robert Rochell seems to be the forgotten man in the CB room. He was a midseason addition that was a stud on special teams but never played a defensive snap and only has 260 defensive snaps under his belt through 3 seasons. His role may be just as a special teams guy but we know the Packers value that or he may be capable of much more. He was a small school developmental traits based draft pick with 4.41 speed, explosive leaping ability (43"VJ), and length that should play well in the new scheme. I'm excited to see what he can do with a full offseason with the team. Point being on Rochell that I see 7 CB fighting for likely 6 roster spots and it could come down to King vs Rochell. Rochell has special teams advantage but King's got the rookie contract in his favor.
I have 6th and 7th round players I have been intrigued and cautiously excited for...I am freaking pumped for King. Gutey has shown he can find talent with 7th rounders (Walker, Valentine, Melton -- which I get he did not draft but still applies). As well this kid is motivated. I do not have much expectations this year given the depth. Ceiling is very high for a 7th rounder.
What would it say about Gutey and staff if in 2025, three starters at key positions (CB Valentine, CB King, and LT Walker) were 7th round picks?
It means we were right to believe 😂

It would say the player put in the work and the coaches provided that path
It would be a much bigger endorsement of the coaching staff than of Gutey. The coaches are getting the most of the players potential.
He was definitely worth a second round pick last year but because he had Joe Barry Junior as his coach I can definitely see him making the team and getting playing time
No deep dives on udfas?
So how did he hide his lack of long speed in 2022?
All I know is that stokes is cooked so hopefully king can ball. Definitely have more faith in king
This guy is cut or maybe practice squad.
He qas the best CB in the NCAA in 2022. He's not going to be cut or on the PS. Packers have 2 guys on the team at CB that are a 7th round pick and UFA. Also, Stokes has been trash and injured the last 2 years. At worst he's the 5th guy on the roster. At best he becomes the #3 CB this year. His man to man coverage is elite and he covered the best receivers in the BIG. Packers are going to be playing a ton of man so I have extreme confidence in this guy. Valentine and Ballentine never showed the high end ability as King did on their college game tape.
That would surprise me quite a bit. The DB room isn’t super deep in Green Bay. Jaire, Stokes, Valentine, Nixon, Ballentine…you need another guy in there. Gute doesn’t like cutting draft picks when they fill a need and show potential. I see King sneaking into that room.
