There are two good reasons for it, weirdly enough.
1) Body language, posture, and clothing play a big part in it. He slouches, acts less confident, wears baggy clothes so he doesn't look muscular, and changes his hairstyle as Clark, at least in some continuities. He knows the tricks that masters of disguise use, and they're unexpectedly simple (even IRL).
2) Would you _want_ the guy that can fry your entire neighbourhood from orbit, or fling you into the sun faster than you can blink, to know that you know his secret? He's not a killer, but still, it's not smart! xD
-There's also the glasses having a subtle hypnotic effect that prevents people from figuring it out, at least in some continuities, but that's not a -_-good-_- reason. ;3-

Always loved this story about eliminating Super Sap. ! I have no idea how he was able to knock out Doomsday with his last ''punch''? Seemed contrived ,due to killing Super Sap?,He couldn't be let loose to do havoc! I am sure Captain Atom would have been able to take care of him!. Though the end of Superman was greeat for awhile ,until they clone him and then it became sort of sily and superfluos .
