To discourage this kind of practice, tell them tipping is not the law in Canada. Any problem? either party can call police right the way. Simple period! The hostess made a very critical point-- difference between service charge and tipping. The former is clearly indicated either in writing or verbally informed in advance, the latter is voluntary only.

When my family wants to eat out, our first choice is non-Chinese food because we feel most of the Chinese restaurants (waiters/waitresses) are not very nice with attitude; at the end of the meal, they expect high tips. We cook and eat at home all the time, but only eat out when there are very special occasions. Thank you for speaking out regarding Chinese restaurants' bad business practices.

I also want to thank you for mentioning about the tipping calculation on the machines. Today, I noticed the card machine minimum began at 18%! Terrible! Because I was informed by your video, i only paid the meal on credit and paid cash for the tip. For me, its not even the amount per se but the principle of the matter. Terrible. Yep whether it is a Western or Asian restaurant I will do the same. I’m Asian and it’s a matter of principle not a racial thing. Folks need to think deeper than surface level when bringing up the race card. Your statements are factual and simply providing feedback on how restaurants can create a better customer experience. Also how to show more empathy in certain situations. If restaurants end up giving you backlash because of these comments then once again, they are not a restaurant you would continue to support. If restaurant owners are comparing higher tip in the US, then the opposite end of the spectrum could be said in the EU where there is no tipping culture. 😅 For those who are watching this, stand your ground (in a polite manner even if the restaurant employer gets mad) and if needed, save a reference of the legislations around tipping regulations from Ontario website in your back pocket. Do not go back in to pay the extra tips 😢 I appreciate your fair and transparent assessment!
I would not take advantage of 10% off cash deal offered by some restaurants. Not gonna condone this kinda tax evasion scheme As Ontario residents we have free medic care etc, the tax pool should be shared among law abiding citizens.
去年尾去華麗宮食飯因爲老婆生日,服務冇什麼問題重主動幫我們影相📸所以我埋單比15%貼士,但事後發覺原來已經貼士on bill 再加稅而服務員都冇提你!為何!大龍蝦🦞做法都是同魚樂軒一樣因為同一老闆每每將海鮮斤両加大等你們埋單花多些錢!中餐已經開始亂來了!打工仔唔通叫老闆出糧時加多15%?😢盡量都少出去食飯最多去飲茶🫖為何你們請員工而要食客幫你理單,我年輕時在歐洲從事飲食業貼士都是任客人比的那有現在北美這個文化做法,但每月貼士收入都是平常開支夠用,客人覺得服務好才能這樣給小費!
小小分享,01 Jan 晚去了一間新 fushion restaurant at Enterprise/birchmont , order 4 dishes , 2 appertizer 好快到, 2 main course 等了很久,遲來人客也吃完了! 催了几次終於到了,Waiter feel sorry and offer two free drink 作補償,都算識做,不過食物一般,價錢貴了一點, 應該唔會再去😂

作為消費者,我哋一定要團結力量,從此以後,做好自己本分去食飯,拒絕一啲無理嘅追加小費啦!
首先多謝妳們勇敢為這等事發聲,伸張正義。有一觀點我不同意,亦不明白,為何貼士,小費是根據客人所吃的餸菜價格而給與一個百份率?舉一例,一位客人吃了一碟很昂貴的食材。另一枱有三位客人祗吃了一碟很便宜的食物。待應同樣袛拿一碟食物去每一张檯。為甚麼吃貴價食物的客人要多給小費,而三人一檯的客人就可以給少些貼士?同樣是遞上一碟食物,工作量差不多,其實三人檯的工作量還多些。所以我不同意小費貼士是應根據賬單銀碼而定下百份率。以往美國普通家庭式餐館是每一人收兩元。我認為這種百份率收費模式要改革。
絕對讃同 好似收茶錢每位$2.5 小費一樣可以分早上每位小費最抵$2.00
晚上每位小費最抵$4.00等等

但他們已經得到工资(是否合理或抬底交易,係員工和老闆的問題,一個願打,一個願捱)不過華人餐飲業 一向存在的黑歷史 只有增加,從來無減少到!现在去華人超市/食肆 经常見到有東南亞的年輕人工作(听聞他/她們是海外學生,抬底交易 工資低過政府的最低工資)此風不可長呀!天下烏鴉一樣黑,再世包公也理不完🫣

上年幫襯一間台灣餐廳,入去坐低就自己scan 嗰桌上QR code, 之後自己落單,嗰服務員只係攞食物上桌,之後就冇理會我哋,坐喺另一張枱玩手機,當時一啲都唔忙,又唔嚟refill 茶水,食完佢就嚟收碟,跟著比單我哋,同埋放底credit card hand held device with preset 15% tips,然後佢又返入廚房, 成個過程係冇乜交流,冇乜服務,我立刻唔客氣改咗嗰preset tips to custom , 比咗小小就算數,自己攞咗printed收據就9秒9離開。咁hea 嘅服務,就只值hea 嘅服務費。感覺成餐飯都係自助形式。
越黎越多餐廳只用QR code落單,我自己唔會單獨去這類餐廳!因為我唔識用!
感謝果皮飯團勇敢為食客發聲, 其實一直以來很多唐餐廳都覺得自己嘅餐價係遠遠低於主流水平, 所以要求食客畀足貼士係應份嘅, 亦唔會提供好嘅服務質素, 但係近年啲唐餐價格不斷上升, 好多已經貼近西餐價錢, 但係無論服務同埋食物嘅質素都冇乜改進, 佢哋嘅要求變得十分無理!

我是住在溫哥華的, 今次你們的話題很有趣.十多年前本地也發生過同類事件, 食客被強收小費, 於是向電台吐槽, 電台請來律師詢問, 律師說如果小費是被印在餐牌內(像一般西餐廰),食客看了餐牌後繼續點餐, 就等於認同收費, 就等於合同一樣. 美國小費比加拿大高,是因為美國有些餐飲業員工是沒有最低工資的或最低工資比法例所定的更少, 所以食客會多付一點.最後,我覺疫後差不什麼地都要收小費.
各位顧客要齊心,別怕事。如果碰到服務差卻又追你話俾唔夠小費嘅話,你就話就係得咁多錢。如果佢唔俾你離開餐館嘅話,你就報警,告佢非法禁固。 講真嘅,誰怕誰。

唔熟加拿大嘅稅制問題,美國的甚少有這些發生但不排除如紐約、加州華人聚居的地方。美國的西餐服務系好過中餐嘅幾倍,起碼人哋添加飲料唔使叫就自動做,咁上下會問啲餐合口味嗎,或有乜需要即叫佢。我通常俾多D tip也千謝萬謝的,不過到最後佢哋當我地日本人!😂😂現在美國的中餐館都有咗好大的改善但仍需努力!

我係加拿大反而prefer俾cash, 因為唔駛個staff企係度等你俾完錢。俾cash通常佢擺低張單轉頭先黎收錢,咁我就有時間計下想俾10%定15%tips.
只做落單上菜既就俾10% (稅後就more than 10%).
如果service 做得好令我食得開心既就俾15%。(會主動添水添茶)

去食唐餐很有挑戰性、由坐低已要睇清收費方法+價錢等、埋單又要睇清楚張單、 貼士又唔知佢高唔高興、 呢樣又話有優惠、埋單時果樣又話唔包、 要求服務又唔會有人彩你、而家已六個月多冇去飲茶食飲!
相信絕大多數食客為避免因小費問題同餐廳爭拗所出現嘅尷尬場面,就因此呢類貪婪嘅餐廳會大大聲追討小費。所以維護自身權益及遏止歪風,我會比他們更大聲📢反問那條法例規定必須要支付12%小費?正所謂你唔怕尷尬,尷尬只會係佢哋。另外在税務假期內只‘’收現金‘’另再加價嘅餐廳,雖然餐廳有權不參與税務假期,但如果不嫌麻煩我哋都可以去信加拿大最有效率嘅部門‘‘税局‘’投訴吓。大家都心知肚明佢哋收現金就係逃税。明白做生意係要賺錢但不要太過份好似奉旨哋去劏客咁。

It is the same in New Zealand. They do not charge nor expect a tip and the service is always good.

西餐廳好公道, Server 有笑容, 一定會問一下客人食物是否適合, 我試過好多次, 牛扒好韌, 馬上再做給我, 麵包不暖, 馬上換, 他們仍然友善對待. ❤ 客人食得開心, 自然Tips都闊綽. 還有只中餐廳食物盒才要收費.
其實我哋應該效法魁北克,所有飲食業收銀機直接通去魁省稅局 ,每張單都有記錄,稅局經常派人去放蛇查核有冇出收據,如果餐廳經常取消交易,如他們發覺有人流稅他們會多方面去調查,在魁省所有餐飲業收銀機要直接和稅局登記,才可以營業

稅務局應該去中餐館放蛇。捉嗰啲收現金又逃稅嘅餐館😂
有些餐廳是老細收起貼士,到出糧的時候才發給員工另外數十元當作貼士,很多時是看老細的良心,有些可能祗給10元8塊!

我之前同啲朋友傾開,可能遲啲中餐廳除咗收茶、芥同貼士之外,可能遲啲仲會收清潔費、餐具費、枱費… 點知睇完你呢條片,原來真係有餐廳開始收枱布費!關於額外收費,之前試過喺一間好一般嘅台式餐館食晏,叫咗碟台式炒米粉,同侍應講想要辣醬,跟住個侍應同我講要收$1。有試過食越南粉,兩家人連埋小朋友六個人,佢話要收最少15%服務費,我話我哋分兩張枱坐隔籬咪得囉,佢話公司規矩唔可以,其實嗰間並不是什麼高級餐館,我哋只係晏晝入去食碗越南粉,好多時前後腳都會撞到熟人,咁唔通又要指定俾幾多小費?況且根本冇服務可言,真係好普通家庭式嘅越南餐館。我自己都試過因為真係冇散子,又請朋友食飯,因為某種原因當時我身上冇任何信用卡及提款咭,食飯埋單嘅時候喺櫃檯比少咗 $0.25 小費,疑似老闆娘嘅收銀即刻話呢個係加拿大餐廳嘅規矩,一定要比足小費,一毫子都唔可以少!結果我要俾$100佢找返$99.75俾我,而呢件事係發生喺十幾年前,呢間餐廳而家仲喺度。你哋講咗啲大家都唔敢講嘅題目,support !

我遇到過有幾間餐館外買的盒收一元一個,有一間收0.50元,有一間仲離譜外賣筷子,膠匙一份收0.30元,系疫情重開後到現在免稅期間,好多亂收什麼附加費,D態度又差,🤬

其實食客真係唔應該容忍呢D黑餐廳嘅行為。 好多嘢可以做,例如直斥其非,道理响我哋嗰度嘛,洗乜怕佢哋呢?唔比咪唔比囉,佢會咬你咩? 千祈唔好吞聲忍氣,最好嘅方法係响Yelp 或者Google review 度留下食後感,比其他人知道。 如果每個人都可以留下negative comments, 比一星評分, 直接影響佢嘅reputations, 或者餐廳會知衰, 然後改善。
去年尾去華麗宮食飯因爲老婆生日,服務冇什麼問題重主動幫我們影相📸所以我埋單比15%貼士,但事後發覺原來已經貼士on bill 再加稅而服務員都冇提你!為何!大龍蝦🦞做法都是同魚樂軒一樣因為同一老闆每每將海鮮斤両加大等你們埋單花多些錢!中餐已經開始亂來了!打工仔唔通叫老闆出糧時加多15%?😢盡量都少出去食飯最多去飲茶🫖為何你們請員工而要食客幫你理單,我年輕時在歐洲從事飲食業貼士都是任客人比的那有現在北美這個文化做法,但每月貼士收入都是平常開支夠用,客人覺得服務好才能這樣給小費!

小小分享,01 Jan 晚去了一間新 fushion restaurant at Enterprise/birchmont , order 4 dishes , 2 appertizer 好快到, 2 main course 等了很久,遲來人客也吃完了! 催了几次終於到了,Waiter feel sorry and offer two free drink 作補償,都算識做,不過食物一般,價錢貴了一點, 應該唔會再去😂

優先座位作為商業服務, 例如飛機乘客頭等艙, 主題樂園優先通行證, 屬於客戶付費額外服務, 唔係犯罪, 但前提是清晰的服務提供, 同埋收費溝通

剛剛從多倫多回佛州,聖誕前有間唐人餐館在mall 開張,早上去喝茶,9點前已經排隊,一心想應該不會太差,坐下便立刻點樣點心,拿上枱的食物,包點全部涷的,上枱的粥是微熱,油條更是返炸,埋單用現金,99 percentage 的唐餐館一早打上告示在正門,信用卡機器壞了,唐人當然有現金,西人就有點麻煩,最後12%小費自動加上,冇得上訴!這樣的飲食文化,少去也吧。
好多谢两位主持表达大多数消费者的心声,和好客观的分析表达亦冇针对任何餐 做得好好,其实劣质餐厅佢哋只会自作自受搞跨自己,所以有好多餐馆倒闭咁解。
英明的餐廳灑樓唔應該在二個月冇稅期間加價,因為出外食飯的人係多左,如果知道係即時加價我們係唔會去帮稱

多伦多有些中餐馆強收稅后12%貼士已經不合理,最可恨的是明明訂了位,迟迟都不給位你,如果你認识經理塞錢給她,馬上就有位比你,特別是鴻福酒樓
還有集友的碧麗宮(唔記得佢個名,不過只係佢一间酒樓在集友商場)
同樣欣勤招呼熟客先,對生客就不秋不采!去過一兩次 就唔再幫襯,那些侍應幫老闆倒米🤛
確實餐飲業有商會的,商會應該要做返D嘢
現在要給12%小費,稅後就差不多等於15%小費
整個比美都有小費文化,所以相對食物餐費相對平的。歐洲沒小費文化,相對餐費比較貴的,除非你個人認為他們的服務特別出色作為嘉獎、感激你是可以給小費,他們還是會收的。我個人認為這才是小費真正的意義!

我住在upstate NY,時不時都會嚟多倫多買餸和食嘢,我都覺得好多中式餐廳唔收信用卡這個習慣真係好L煩,每次臨開車返美國時想食個晚飯先走,好多時叫餸都要就住就住,因為驚自己唔夠現金,有次我同個侍應生講話驚唔夠現金,佢同我講佢哋可以收美金,但係要一對一😂
不過唔好淨係話多倫多自從COVID 之後,美國餐飲業收小費越嚟越猖狂,就算平時去買件三文治快餐order的時候部機已經問你15% 18% 20% ,我心諗我都未見到個finish product ,你就要問我攞小費. 真係黐L線

I watched your part 1 yesterday over n over. Have never come across such awful treatment towards customers, demanding more tips when they have paid the bill n in the process of leaving. Absolutely lost for words. Shameful to the service industry. They need a full explanation n apology. What an upsetting n embarrassing situation. Today will follow through with part 2. 偶然看到你個視頻,作為一個住在澳洲三十多年的前香港人,發表我的意見。
我知在美國食飯要付很重的tips,原因在美國的服務員時薪不受minimum wages法律保護。不知加拿大是否如此?
香港以前都是有貼士文化。當時的大酒家通常會每月把錢分發,老細及員工都有得分,叫做下欄。大約七、八十年代食市開始強制性收10%service charge(俗稱加一), 寫明在餐牌上。香港才開始沒有貼士文化。
在澳洲,waiter 時薪在min wages之上,所以冇tips 文化。有些中式小餐廳用信用卡會加1.5% surcharge。不過亦又些餐廳會給5%discount for cash payment。通常都會在當眼處貼上告示。

最緊要喺“講明”,同埋list 喺張單上面。若聲明左你都幫襯,就叫心甘情願,若服務差又焗俾tips,向manager投訴。當然以上所講既大部分唐餐館都好難做到。🤭

真係說出我們的心声,其實这同硬搶有何分别?現在買杯雪糕都問你取貼士,外賣都問你要貼士,越來越離譜!幾多侍應揸名車,住大屋,都是小费幫他們大忙,而且又不用交税。話工作辛苦,大把人做工都辛苦,他們有沒有小費收?係冇。好老實,一般茶樓餐廳的員工敎育程度都不高,人工加小費,已經是不錯的收入,真係不要太贪得無厭,惹人反感!個人認為10%已非常足夠,我又不是欠你的?你憑什么要我硬付12%丶15%或更多?
在多倫多餐飲業做了30多年,現在已退休,從侍應做到老闆,記得八,九十年代做侍應,老闆從來不會拿貼士的,都自己做老闆也從不會拿員工的貼士,就算有幫手招呼客人,幾十年都是10%,大家都覺得很公平,有時有些族群是明知是沒有貼士的,但感覺也沒有什麼大不了,都是平均計有些人會畀很多的士,做服務行業大家都明白有時有很多有時候可能沒有,都是用心去工作,但現在這個世界已變了,我們可以怎樣。😢
🤪🤪 !真的厭倦 某些餐館 老闆/老闆娘收錢的行為,職員有樣學樣讓食客屢次失望而回。我最近改去唐人的大超市買熟食外賣,貨真價實,品種多隨意挑選,份量比餐館多又價減少。🥰🥰,不再有失望受氣⋯⋯希望各位食家也改變去超市⋯⋯🙀🙀 餐館生意慘淡一下也許會改變⋯⋯
