Fantastic news for me. Very helpful info. Last night. May 24th this exact problem came up as I was coming to a stop at a gas/petrol station. Ran the battery down. It had been hanging on for about a year with occassional charge ups required so that fits. My low beam light stopped working and at the end the turn signals were going crazy. Two hours waiting and a tow-truck trip I got home. Chris Harris talks about this in one of his videos and now today you have confirmed for me the problem with some added info regarding the starter. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. It makes a big difference to those of us on a budget. Thanks again.

Everything you're explaining happened to me including weird electrical issues. I was told to buy a new relay but the high price convinced me to take it apart and clean the contacts which are like the old-fashioned points. You really only have to use a little bit of very fine emory paper and then finish with actual paper to clean. I removed my starter to make sure no damage was done as in my case it ran the battery down to nothing. Tow truck was needed as I was out when it happened. #@$& I haven't had any weirdness since but I would advise anybody with a K bike not to mess around with a low battery. Go out and buy a new or reconditioned one right away while you can. My relay would not reopen with tapping. Always keep your battery up if you don't want this to happen to you. So many of us try to make an old battery last to the bitter end but the Bosch relay is too finicky to do that. Also, my headlamp bulb blew because of this happening and my turn signals turned on solid and my dash lights started flashing. LOL.. I can laugh now but I can tell you I sure wasn't laughing that night and all for the want of a fully charged battery. Some people have rigged a larger solenoid bought at an automotive parts store. I'm still trying to understand why my Battery Light will not fully turn off after the bike starts and my alternator is charging. Another common K bike issue but no real answers from anyone yet. Good Luck to all.

Thanks for the video. My relay became stuck and any time I would hook up my battery, the starter would turn over (even with ignition key off and not touching the start button). Fixed it by giving it a good tap with a screw driver. Ultimately I will order a replacement relay but I'm having a tough time finding a verified replacement.

thx, its not a super complicated thing in and of itself. I mostly wanted to share the information because when i had the electrical issues i mention in the vid, the solution was really hard to find on the internet. (I even had to open a topic on MF where i did my poor job on describing the issue derailing the complete topic :D) So i wanted to do fellow 80-90's Kbike owners a favor and save them some troubleshooting time.

Your video starts with the gas tank already lifted; how is that done? From there on it looks straight forward enough, so thanks very much!

First off, make sure there's no fairings in the way. on a 'naked' K75 you only need to loosen the plastic part that covers the radiator. That is held on by rubber grommets and plastic bits. If it has been sitting for a while, its gonna be a bit stiff to loosen. be careful as not to break your shiny parts :) On RTs or RSs or any other faired version it might be a little more tedious, but i have no experience with that.
afterwards you lift the seat, take off the tank pad (if you have it) there's an allen screw in the middle that holds it in place. then underneath the tank just around the corner where the tank pad used to sit, there's two protrusions with two C-clips that hold the tank in place.
loosen those C-clips and the tank should lift right out. the original fuel line is a bit on the short side so you're not gonna have a whole lot of room to work in. An idea is to siphon the fuel out into a container of your choice so you can completely remove the tank.
