When I was 12 my father got sick. 5 owls showed up in a tree in our yard. They stayed there for 6 weeks and left the day my father passed away. We never saw an owl in that tree before and never saw one after that. 😢
I can believe that. To the Cherokee, owls are messengers, sometimes of death, sometimes of moving, like to or from a home, or movement, like a job lost or gained. I have three owl stories myself.
Looord Jayne. 1st of all I'm so sorry you had to lose your father 😔. Yeah them ole owls know. I reckon that ole sign goes back to the Native Americans. Wild how it works ain't it. I do thank you so much for watching sister. God bless and have a good'n. Also, thank you for sharing that memory.

Hey brother!! Looord grinnin like a possum eatin pokeberries 😂😂 I gotta remember that'n! Thank you so much for watching Kinfolk. God bless and have a good'n
I can relate to a lot of these growing up and even till this day. I remember my grandmother and great-grandmother making me swallow a spoonful of Vick's. My great-great-grandmother would take cobwebs dip them in turpentine and make you swallow them if you were congested. And every time they were cooking they'd always take that salt and throw it over the right shoulder. And the great-great-grandmother was always tell somebody the door you come in as a door that you go out of. Ray said that if you go out that back door you're letting something else in so if you come in the front whatever you have with you you can take it right back out through the front. Also remember that my grandmother and great-grandmother would take the clothes down by the creek and put it in a big cauldron and put the stuff called blueing in it, the white clothes because you know if something's really really why it gives off that blue tent and I wish I could find some of that today I sure would use it. But I really like this one I can relate to so many and everytime I heard you say one I was like dang it that's why they did that. 🙏✌️💙
Hey Natasha 👋😃💙 Thank you for watching. Yeah I remember the Blueing! Can't buy it anymore but LAWD you talking about comin out sparkin white! So glad you enjoyed it sister. God bless and have a good'n
@@fly_speck_cafe I'll tell you right now I would not use that stuff today I got so tired of eating it when I was little I don't even like lookin at the bottle
@@JaredKingTV I don't know if I mentioned it but I also remember my great-grandma getting cobwebs and dipping them and turpentine and making a swallow them in case we had. And every time we had a sore throat she would put a dirty sock around our neck
Amazing videos brother. Keep up the great work on the videos brother. Love the videos brother. Love ya brother God bless and stay awesome brother and have a good'n.
NAOMIIIIIII 👋😃💙 HEY thank you so much for watching!! So glad you enjoyed it Naomi. God bless and have a good'n 😁 Tell Bonnie and Phillip I said howdy 👋😁
Bad luck to work on Sunday or cut cornbread. Kill a spider, it will rain in three days. I was raised in owsley here in ky. My moms people were first settlers. Daniel Boone came there so the town is called Booneville. Have festival to celebrate him. Havent been to the Wooly Worm festival in Lee county in long time. I am almost 70 and about heard all these. Still believe them. Thanks for your videos.
Hey Debbie 👋😀💙. Well a lot of the earliest settlers come from Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Europe and more. When they came over each one brought a lot of them ole sayings, traditions and stuff with them 😀
Daddy was born 1905, he told me to never lean backwards over a well looking in a mirror. He said he seen my mother in the reflection of the water. His sister looked in the mirror she seen a coffin. She died in 1 year. He’d make me promise to never do this. I never did
My mom used to say if a cat washes waaaayy behind it's ears company's coming from far away. When my mom sadly passed away my brother said he heard wolves howling close to the house a few days before she passed away. I don't remember hearing them, but even now 45 yrs later i still get nervous if i hear or think I'm going to hear woives.😱
Howdy Lynn! Neat about the cat but dang that's spooky about the wolves!!! Id probably be the same way about it. Thank you so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n
My Mom always said a bunch you mentioned but here's a few more I can think of from her...for a newly married couple, whoever sits down on the wedding bed first will be the first to pass away. If you gift a purse or wallet put a bill or coin in it so the person won't always be poor. Never split a pole with someone you're walking with because it's bad luck. Wear something new on New Years or you'll never afford new all year.
No Jared! Lol. My mama and daddy and my grandmama always told us that it was the devil's wife beating him over the head with a Cast Iron Skillet!!! Lol. To tell the truth I've heard so many superstitions growing up my whole life because it is intertwined in my family's lives and always has been. It's kind of funny to me how in different parts of the world that its said different ways, but yet it's the same superstition. Lol.
Yeah you know when I was making these videos I was thinking the same thing lol. I've heard some that's basically the same just a little bit different. Then I've heard them where it's the same premise just completely backwards lol. Definitely amazing and mind blowing for sure.
I have dreams of many friends and family members who are dead, there hasn’t been any weddings. Those dreams are so real as if I’m truly with them. I often wake up remembering the dream and often go back to sleep to spend more time with them, very vivid dreams. I have slept for 24+ hrs just to spend more time with them. I often wonder if I have some connection with something that allows me to see them? It’s as if we are truly together. Mostly it’s dreams of one friend who was a coworker and friend, he passed July 21, 1998😢 , I have never visited his grave. May God Bless him and may he be in Gods House and continuing building motors and doing burnouts.
Remember my greatgranny had a long eaten table seemed like 10ft long since would cook for the hands that helped my great grandfather in the crops but on Sundays she would have a sheet laid out over the food and I would sneak through to get me some salted ham ummm.
When my eldest uncle died, my mother and I were outside of the funeral home when we heard a great owl. My mother froze, her eyes wide with fear. I reminded her that we were out in the country so an owl would be a common thing to hear which calmed her down as we went back in. But inside, my own heart grew fearful. My mother had been sickly for most of my life and it worried me. I knew that owls are messengers to the Cherokee but I wondered if it was announcing my uncle's rise to heaven or warning me about my mom! Within six months, my mother developed an extreme illness that she grew despondent over and started drinking to cope. Two years later, I heard another great owl at night in my back yard, this time, in a large city where they don't frequent! I knew I was being warned but it didn't help. My mother passed a week later and, because of the city's traffic, I couldn't get there in time. But owls aren't slways messengers of death. They are messengers of movement. I've grown much older now, and have known for a while that my health wasn't going to deal with my very physically hard fulltime job for much longer but I was scared of losing my benefits as I am alone in the world. While walking down the driveway from my second job (housekeeper), a great owl, without warning, swooped quickly down right in front of me, grabbed a mouse I hadn't even seen on the other side of the driveway and was gone into the trees just like that! I was totally startled! In that instant, I could see its beautiful face and the intensity in its eye watching its prey as it came down with a huge wingspan as long as I am tall! I swore it glanced at me quickly just before it grabbed the mouse and was out of sight in a split second. It had swooped down in front of me on purpose! I could have spooked the mouse it was watching but I wasn't going to stop it from getting what it needed to live well so down it came! Lesson learned right there! I retired from the fulltime job that was hurtig me. No sooner did I let my other employer know the next week that I was quitting the more taxing job than she asked me to start working for her at a higher wage with more days, better hours and less physical stress! I stood in the same driveway that evening and thanked the owl for showing me what I should do for myself. They are truly messengers for us folks to pay attention to! But they are not always messengers of doom.
Lord Nancy what a blessin that was about the job! But so sorry about your mom. Dad went into a depression when he had lung cancer before he passed. It's not easy seeing them like that that's for sure. But you're definitely NOT alone sister. The Kinfolk and I love ya bunches!!! It takes us all to make the family complete. That includes you sister. Thank you so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n
Every knife I've been given as a gift by anyone in my family, they gave it to me with a penny with the same year's date. When you mentioned that, it struck me about something that happened to me last year Maybe some of y'all know, I'm a roadie/stagehand. Last year a guy on my crew and goid friend, needed a knige real quick. I always keep an extra one in my toolbox. You guys know, them Kobalt folding lockblade razor knives... I have it to him as a gift on the spot. BUT I FAILED to give him a coin with it. Didn't think of it. The bext day, Id forgot to put mine on my belt. So l asked him if l could see the one I'd given him yesterday real quick. He said " Sorry bro l already lost it". Well I'll be honest. That pissed me off! More so than it rightfully should have. We went back and forth bickering to the point our boss had separate us. We shook hands and made up later. AND he even FOUND the knife. We still work together. We do get along OK. But till this day our friendship just ain't the same. It's like there's a wedge between us. So l can speak from experience. As crazy as it may sound. Somehow there could be something to that superstition.
Hey brother!! Dang man that's a wild yet very interesting story right there. Yeah I definitely agree, there's definitely something to it for some. Thanks so much for watching and sharing that brother. God bless and have a good'n
I heard most of these sayings all my life my mommy would smack us if we walked under a ladder My wife was raised by her grandparents and they believed in all this stuff they lived deep in the mountains.
My husband always said it was bad luck to be hit with a broom . My granny said if the left side of your nose itched a woman was a coming and if the right side itched it meant a man was a coming. And my mommy always said that if you had to sew a button on your shirt while you was a wearing it that you should eat a piece of bread or you would be sewing your brains together.
Thunder in February, frost in May. If you eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day, you'll not want for food all year. If you kill a frog, the cows will give bloody milk.
If you let someone borrow your pocket knife, (& you open the knife) you must close it. ( If the borrower closes it the must open it & give it back to you. Or there will be bad luck. Always have your besom ( broom) standing by the front door, bristles up, to catch the luck in the bristles & go down the besom into the home.
My husband told me, he was told it was bad luck to open an umbrella in the house, or someone would die. He also told me he did, and his granddaddy died that night.. he was told it was his fault he died cause he'd done that. He believed that for years.
If you enjoyed this, Please share with others that may enjoy it. God bless and have a good'n 🙏💙

@@JaredKingTV you to friend

@@fly_speck_cafe I'll tell you right now I would not use that stuff today I got so tired of eating it when I was little I don't even like lookin at the bottle
@@JaredKingTV I don't know if I mentioned it but I also remember my great-grandma getting cobwebs and dipping them and turpentine and making a swallow them in case we had. And every time we had a sore throat she would put a dirty sock around our neck

@@JaredKingTV you ever hear it called “folk magic”? I’ve heard people call it that here
Bad luck to work on Sunday or cut cornbread.
My grandson just woke me up to do
Hey sister 👋😃
Hey brother I’m just getting settled at home just got home about 30 minutes ago
Hey Randle! Hope you had a goodn today brother 🙏 God bless you Randle
I wonder were a lot of these superstitions came from? Great story Jared 💀☕.
@@JaredKingTV
Thank you. I like hearing about old wives tales of all kinds.
I have found a greaser from South Carolina
Awesome brother
No Jared!
Loooord brother just Thankin about that salted ham makes my mouth water!
@@JaredKingTVthanks for the kind words! I'm very grateful for my family here with y'all. May the Good Lord bless them all.
If you drop a spoon a woman will come if you drop a fork a man will come I heard about this when I was little
Hey that's awesome brother!
That was this a guy I know his mama is from Massachusetts I think he told me she always said something about the sky about the Sailor I think
Yeah a lot of folks say that ole saying
Every knife I've been given as a gift by anyone in my family, they gave it to me with a penny with the same year's date.
When you mentioned that, it struck me about something that happened to me last year
Maybe some of y'all know, I'm a roadie/stagehand.
I’ve heard a bunch of these brother
You being a good mountain brother I figured you would have heard a bunch of them brother 😎👍
What about saying about red cardinal coming to yard or window mean sayings
THANKS AGAIN,
MY LOVING MOTHER 👩 BELIEVED IN ALOT OF THEM. TOLD ME NOT TO DO.
I heard most of these sayings all my life my mommy would smack us if we walked under a ladder My wife was raised by her grandparents and they believed in all this stuff they lived deep in the mountains.
Yeah brother our elders took these ole sayins VERY serious didn't they
@@JaredKingTV yes they did !
Howdy Janice! Thank you so so much for sharing those. I'll be sure to add them in the next video like this! God bless and have a good'n
Thunder in February, frost in May. If you eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day, you'll not want for food all year. If you kill a frog, the cows will give bloody milk.
Hey brother thank you kindly for watchin and for adding that I'll definitely add that to the next one. God bless and have a good'n
Around here, if your right hand itches you'll shake hands with a stranger, some say you'll get money.
Hey Elizabeth 👋😃 thank you so much for watching and sharing that! I'll be sure to add it to the next one like this. God bless and have a good'n
I have seen o e myself to be true, if a rooster crows late at night they will be a death of someone close to you.
Hey Brenda 👋😃 thank ya kindly for watchin and adding those! I'll be sure to add them to the next one like this. God bless and have a good'n 🙏
😊
Hey FARKAS 👋😀
My husband told me, he was told it was bad luck to open an umbrella in the house, or someone would die. He also told me he did, and his granddaddy died that night.. he was told it was his fault he died cause he'd done that. He believed that for years.
❤😊🌻🌿
