I just started playing beamng 3 weeks ago and just made the switch from console to pc gaming 3 weeks ago. I'm having so much fun being able to edit files to get what I want. I just did this with steering angle last night for my drift cars that need more angle.
BeamNG is addicting man; I take occasional breaks every now and then, but the times where I do start playing again, I end up playing for weeks 🤣 File editing makes it so much better; they updated their modeling system for Blender, so I may figure out how to add new customizable parts to cars and make a video showcasing that 👀
@@jazzerr710 good question; you can try loading the vehicle config in notepad++ or something and see, but i’ve never personally tried it, just made new configs with the wheel settings
I’m really new to beam but I’m loving it more and more each time I play it. I would like a little help with the adjustments when I tried to do it it didn’t save as a overwrite or new vehicle😅
I showed it poorly in this video; you can make an unpacked folder in your documents that will allow you to place files that will temporarily change the game files as long as the mod is there (Example : \AppData\Local\BeamNG.drive\0.31\mods\unpacked\MODNAME\vehicles\etkc\suspension.jbeam)
So I followed the instructions (cause im wanting to stance some cars that could use the camber) but, when i save it, its always a text file and not a JBEAM File, is there anyway to fix that? Thxs
I'm glad I could help! Knowing how to work with BeamNG's code can go a long way - I'm still learning about it as well, but I figured it would be nice to share my findings with everyone else
Each car should have different base values but the settings I inputted should work universally. HOWEVER, I think I’m going to make an updated guide because there’s a MUCH easier way to add camber to the base cars without needing to make copies of them - this can be done by making an unpacked folder in your mods folder; it’s hard to explain in a comment so I’ll let you know when I upload a new video
@@Andrew-the-car-guy Ah, tbh true 😂 So this one is a old outdated tutorial bro! No need to make a copy of the car, just put the files in your unpacked folder (check my most recent video on how to make window stickers and follow that, as the steps are the same!) :)
i was wondering the same thing, so right now i am trying to find the part of code that affects steering angle, if i find it then i will send a yt link because if i do find it then i will make a video
i think i found it, but it has a side effect. In the same file used from this video, if you open the front suspension and scroll down to "coupe_steering_drift" you can find everything related to drift steering. scroll a tiny bit more and you find "nodes". in that section you should be able to see "fh3r" and "fh3l" and it has the same numbers but one is negative. if you change that to 0.6 and -0.6 you should have a little more angle than normal. (0.64 breaks and then you can't steer anymore) the side effect is that the ackerman angle is weird, i don't know how to fix it but i will keep trial and erroring different numbers in different places, but it might take a few days. i also found a way to add it to the normal 200bx with out making a whole separate car file (i am using the 200bx for this) i want to make a video about this process because im sure there are ppl out there who want more steering angle, but i will first focus on making the car handle better with better ackerman angle edit: i forgot to mention that the tie rods (im not sure what they are called) they stick out of the side of the car and idk how i can fix that, it's kind of
i kind of got it working but now the lower arm is breaking and i have no idea how to make it stronger. that's what i did with the tie rod. i changed some numbers and i somehow got the ackerman to be better than before. but again, the lower arm break, when the lower arm breaks i can still turn the wheels but it's very floppy, and any progress updates i have will be edited onto this reply. one another thing is that the wheels don't fully center, both wheels are slightly pointed left or right, even while driving, so i will have to fix that. i did get just a little bit more angle than a normal angle kit on the 200bx but it's not much update 1: I got most of it !!!!! when turning left the right tire goes basically 90° (more like 87°) and the left tire turns closer to 60° (im eyeballing these measurements lol) and it's the same when you turn right, just that the tires switch degree measurements and i have no idea if that make sense lol. i don't know if i discussed this yet but a major problem is that when i drive the wheels auto center, it's like a really high caster setting or sum, so i'll have to fix that somehow. one other thing is that the wheels are very loose. usually the wheels turn together and are stiff but with what im doing it's loose, so loose that sometimes both wheels have 90° of toe in update 2: last night i went back to the original numbers. the only way i could get it the wheels to turn close to 90° is if i move "rx5l" and "rx5r" so close together that it's basically one node. another thing is that i have to move "5h6r" and "fh6l" from 1 to 1.7 (which literally goes all the way out of the car) and that's the only way i can get the 90° steering angle. the problem is that if i move "fh6r" and "fh6l" past "fh3l" and "fh3r" then that's when i get the loose steering angle. the best angle i could get is better than normal drift steering angle, but it's not what i wanted. idk how long this will take lol, i might have biten off more than i can chew, but im making progress. i am now trying to find a different approach to getting more angle. and hopefully fixing the feeling of how the car handles because it still handles as if the caster is really high setting. also, after each time i updated the suspension file i had to replace the custom "coupe" file in the beamng app data location and delete the old one. from experimenting with the suspension i have deleted 134 "coupe" vehicle files (the 200bx is called "coupe") update 3: i managed to get more steering angle without having the floppy loose wheels. it's maybe around 70° - 80°. it's not straight 90° like i wanted but in pretty happy with it. like i said before, the tiered was breaking, so i made that stronger, then the lower control arm was breaking so i made that stronger. now nothing breaks, but something is bending and deforming. when i turn all the way to one side, that side gets picked up to the point that the tire doesn't touch the ground. atm i am trying to find out what it is called. idk what it is but it connects the lower control arms and that's what is bending and causing one wheel to get picked up. it's kind of a rabbit hole. irl to add more angle there is a lot of force added onto certain areas. im guessing you can't just edit one number to add more angle because steering is a lot more complicated than that. you have to adjust camber toe caster and track width and you have to adjust the axis points for everything, im assuming that's why i have to adjust so many things, because beamng is simulating real life. and irl it would break too because of so much force and leverage that the suspension has go hold. so if i make one thing stronger then something else breaks. also, the way i found out to add more angle was i searched the internet, before i was searching youtube but i didn't find anything and i found a forum for beamng and it said i can change the hydros and that's what allowed me to get just a little bit extra angle. anyways, back to the main problem, the thing that is bending is something that i don't know what is called. all ik is that it's connected to the node "tx6r" and "tx6l", so hopefully i find out what that entire thing is called from the beam code
I believe it’s possible to do on servers that allow mods; someone I played with had a modded covet that he increased the power of by a ton and it worked fine
