Simple Song from MASS - Leonard Bernstein Nicholas Ward, baritone Crested Butte Music Festival Symphony Orchestra Conducted by Tito Muñoz Video by Pavol Kasala
Wow. This is a fiendish song - even if you can manage all the technical demands, it’s so hard to make it actually “sing”, and you’ve done all of it exquisitely. I hope you’ll continue to upload more videos. I love your voice, and this is my favourite performance of this song ever. Wherever you are I hope you’re having great success and are happy.
Absolutely beautiful. I can't believe I sang this song 43 years ago back in high school. It is what got me started in an opera career. I was so lucky to actually have a chance to work with Bernstein on this piece. I can tell you in all sincerity that I believe he would have loved your rendition. I wish you the very best in all your pursue. Keep up the great work!
Really lovely voice, and the gentle orchestral accompaniment is fabulous too (thank you, Lenny). Those leaps up to the F are secure and gorgeous! Really nice, Nick.
Alan Titus, the original Celebrant, was a baritone. The top may be achieved in quasi falsetto, but the depth of the tune requires a baritone (no offense to tenors---Domingo successfully attempted some baritone roles---Simon Boccanegra---in his later years).
Excellent performance! One of my favorite songs - really, really enjoyed your tone, and the nuances of it. Especially the “push/pull” of tempo in all the right places :) awesome.
Probably the best version on TH-cam.
Wonderful ! Thank you for this joy!
