      I have heard of the Jordanian guides who help take people to Petra and camel safaris, such guides are known to be incredibly kind and friendly. This journey is high on my bucket list.

    As someone said a you tuber did a better job than most professional documentarians in covering a subject. Also if English is your second language you would never know it. Your narration was so clear and you kept the pace so lively without the silly drama most documentaries are subject to. Keep up the good work. I’m a new subscriber as of today.

      Well believe it or not there's quite a bit more, are entire High School went there, around 250 of us students went there, and in one of the buildings all 250 of us carved our names throughout the place, but for some reason the tour guides forget to show or mention this, I never understood why😏

    There is no one today, on the face of this earth, that can even begin to replicate that kind of stone work. It is quite obvious our ancestors were a whole lot smarter than history gives them credit for being.

      I will go one step further and say they were more than just smarter than we give them credit for. I will say that they are smarter than we are seeing that we can't replicate what they did.

      Those tombs and monuments were built for the absolute elite of the era while their populations were slaving off in the fields. The money used to do so probably represented an obscenely high percentage of the local GDP.
      We should be very happy that developped countries have not reproduced this.

      @@nekononiaow Le château de Versailles was financed by slaves working the sugar cane fields in Haiti. The building of the first locomotive was financed by slavers. Our cheap goods come from people being paid a 1$ dollar per day in Asia, South America and Africa. Modern civilization is built on exploitation.

      @Jimmy L Needham Hey Jimmy, the ‘Broken Pediment’ is a structural DESIGN which has been used for Millennia in architecture and in furniture. The headboard of my bed has a broken pediment design. Maybe before you insult people, you should do some research. You, sir, are the goon.

    How great is Petra. The Nabataean Kingdom is one of the oldest Arab kingdoms that extended in the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula and the south of the Levant to the Mediterranean coast, and trade routes flourished in it across the Arabian Peninsula. And a side note, King Aretas is the Greek pronunciation for Haritha, and my brother's name is Haritha

    Petra is one of the best memories of my travels. Unfortunately, due to time constraint, we did not have a chance to see the other tombs far from the Treasury. It was a long, tiring walk to the Treasury but worth our time & effort. Thanks for showing us the vast complex of Petra.

      Ditto I went on the Holy Land pilgrimage and spent less than 1 hour after we reached the Treasury and wander by foot further inland saw a bit. I have to come back and spend the whole day in Petra

    The Nabataeans and their sacred city of Petra was the subject of my 'Archaeology of the Bible' class term paper in my third year at University (1991), so it holds a special place in my heart. Thank you for the video tour of this fascinating ancient city, Manuel. ☺

    Awesome place, have been 3 times, the first time we camped in Wadi Rum, then trekked through the desert and entered Petra at the top of the the mountain visiting the monastery first, then descending down through the valley of Petra right through to the treasury. After that we climbed up to High Places, a staggering view awaits those who do the climb. 😊

    My daughter and I went to Israel in 2006 with a church group. Petra is one of the side trips we made, It is absolutely amazing!

    Thank you Manuel. From here I will have to do some of my own research. I have a background in history but I’ve never heard of the Nabateans. I have seen pictures of Petra and the main building but that was it. Thank you for a great documentary

    I loved visiting Petra. Didn’t understand the monastery and too hard to climb up there. So grateful for this video. The Jordanians are great people and this is one of the greatest places on earth to visit. Thanks for the memories! PS I am binge watching to catch up on these great videos

    I’ve never had a chance to visit. I had always thought they were ancient homes carved out of the rock.
    This was the first time I learned all these interesting details of Petra’s history. Ty do much! You did an excellent job

    How in the hell does a child of 3 yrs old sleep and dreams of Petra 3 yrs ago I was watching a channel on tv and here comes a oh my gosh a most amazing piece of art and I felt so upset Petra was the structure in my dream I couldn't stop crying long story short how does a child of 3 even dream about something like that I'm a woman from USA so how do I dream of Petra and I didn't dream this one time many many times and have always so interest in ancient ruins from a young age just don't understand Thank ya for sharing this ✌❤

      Yes they discovered another level. But if you stand in front of the Treasury and look inside there is not much to see. Basically a shallow empty space. But standing in front you can look down and see the newly discovered level that is still being excavated. I was there in November 2018.

    So beautiful and informative I have travelled to Petra in 2017 walked along the paths with no knowledge about it .you open my eyes so grateful I learn so much about that place in such in a short time .had was to share with my friend

    I had the good fortune to visit Petra many years ago. If you find yourself in Israel or Jordan it's a must see place. Don't go in the summer though; it's brutally hot. Petra was an important caravan stop on trade routes across the region and died out because over time those routes changed leaving Petra without a reason for being

      @@10cabe don't visit petra from israel it will cost you a lot, visit jordan and go to petra, there are many great places in jordan you should discover it.
