I've migrated my so called "bullet journal" into this crazy spread of personal diary, todo lists, art journal, and brain dump that I love updating everyday. Don't let the norms of what an art/hobby is ever dictate what you want to do!!!
I just started a journal like this and I love it already 😌. It has some components of billet journaling like monthly calendar with daily highlights, favourites lists, mood trackers, etc. but I’m also writing in it like a diary recapping the day (I have no need for daily planner spreads) or my moods or whatever is on my mind! Then there’s doodles and just whatever I want to dump in there! I love the freedom it gives me to explore without committing to doing an aesthetic planner type bullet journal ☺️. I really just took the aspects that work for me then added the aspects that aren’t traditional to bujo but wanted to explore anyways like diary writing!
I've been planning to start a bullet journal this year, continuing my work towards a better lifestyle and perseverance that I started in 2019. I watched a lot of these videos, and derived my ideas from them, but while watching them, I knew there were ton of different spreads that were irrelevant for me, and planned to customize them for myself the way I could. I already had a journal (the kind that is recommended during CBT) but I found myself writing repetitive paragraphs of trying and failing at the same things. So I was looking for something more concise. Glad that I'm not alone in going at a completely different tangent from the mainstream.
same! i started journaling with kpop journaling and bullet journaling. now i just cistomized it and it's a bunch of random spreads, art journal and a personal diary ^^ messy spreads bring me the most joy to make :D
true, but idk why i can't use premade planner XD i fell like i was told what to write by those planner lol even tho my bujo are very minimalist and i rarely decor it
@@welm8412 That's why I love my hobonichi. There are yearly, monthly, weekly layouts and then daily pages, which I use as my bullter journal/personal journalling/to-do lists. Highly recommend. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need a fancy leather cover, though. SO EXPENSIVE.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH USING A PRE MADE PLANNER!!! Anyone can use a planner that has all those boxes and lines and pictures, but you can add things like washi tape, stickers, post its, and drawings of your own where you see fit! That’s what I’ve been doing this school year. I like the hybrid notebook setup you included at the end of the video too! Can’t wait to see what you have for the future!!
Every premade planner I've bought either isn't big enough or so many pages go to waste. I have 3 kids, one is hard of hearing and the other has a lot of medical appointments due to their mental Illness that the regular planners just don't work for me. Bujo works for some people, I know how much space I need and what don't work for me, so I make my own since I can't buy it yet
i've always loved your honesty abt what works for you and what doesn't & i'm glad that you're choosing smth that's best for you! the part where you talked about bullet journaling being "performative" really resonated w me, and i hope that you find a planning method that works the best for you! wishing u all the best 💕💕💕
When I read The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Caroll, I was really inspired by how simple the system is. Sadly, most of the bujo spreads I see online are more decorative than functional. I have yet to find an account that does a simple bullet journal like the author. Update: I am now bullet journaling for 2022 and keeping it minimal ❤️
@@McRaeNaayers They meant it as a generalized statement. You don’t necessarily NEED a bunch of stationary, but obviously if you like that type of thing, then you can go ahead.
I appreciate how you showed the blank, imperfect, or incomplete pages in your journals. It’s important to show the reality of improvement to give others a realistic guide to follow
i always used to get annoyed at myself for not getting into bullet journaling because it was shown to be so amazing but it’s okay to just accept that some things just aren’t for you
I've also been bullet journaling since 2016, last year I quitted, too much perfection required. This year I finally realized that f* perfection, so now I use the original bujo method, as simple as possible, only 2 pens (1 black, 1 red), no spreads, not even a weekly spread, I just plan it day by day, and it's been really helpful for me
It’s ok Jasmine. I once tried bullet journal for about a year and I find that it didn’t work for me that much and so I changed my planning method. Go do what you find most comfortable for you because that’s all that matters. I will always be rooting for you Jasmine!
same thing happened to me it seems like because of social media aesthetics > functionality... put too much pressure on me. ik the original bullet journaling method is simple with symbols. but i learned i like predetermined structure. i cant be making spreads every week especially as a perfectionist in that aspect. it also forces me to prioritise time efficiency and functionality. now i have a planner for uni, notion and maybe a to do list. and it works for me!
Things Pinterest tells you are essential to bullet journaling: the nicest journal on the market, all the pens, all the mildliners, all the tombows, all the washi tape, all the stickers Things I actually use regularly when bullet journaling: decent dot grid journal, pencil, thin black pen, thick black pen, ruler😂😂
Agree on this on a spiritual level 😂I'm not rich to buy all of those cute stationery I won't use but I did buy a lot because I thought that is the standard 😅 Now I just use a normal black pen and black sign pen to shade and tick off boxes lol
Completely agree, everything got so much easier when I stuck with just my black pen and notebook. What did stick after going through the expensive stationary phase tho was the leuchtturm notebook 😭
honestly the principal reason that ppl fail at bullet journal is because they want it to be ✨pretty✨, when the original bullet journal has nothing of that, if you want your notebook to look pretty, you better get yourself an art journal
Exactly. Its just a brain dump with some icons. One thing I notice with the creative bullet journals is that I don't see much in the way of a system like the original. Often times people make pages that mirror traditional planners, and use them as traditional planners. Its kind of muddied the waters a bit.
what ive learned from 5 years of attempting to journal, I have to save myself the money and stop buying new journals if only keep up journaling for a couple days each year LOL
Re: Bookmarks are honestly the most underrated feature of any planner. I added more bookmarks to my planner setup and it makes such a difference as to how often I now open my planner to track habits and my todo lists, aka it actually makes my planner functional instead of just an afterthought~.
for y’all who still want a variety of stationary, i HIGHLY recommend asking for them on your birthday/winter holiday (christmas, hanukkah, etc.) your wallet will thank you and you get a lot of use from the gift!
@@charlenejo2490 pick out the specific items u want and send it directly to them! (u can even make a short list of stuff ur interested in) ik it kinda takes the surprise aspect of a present out but you’ll get exactly what you need :)
On the contrary, I am coming back to bujo. I did quit it in 2020 since I wanted to try some Japanese planner. Since WFH, everything became a blur without a space to spill my mind and track my habits, which I usually make for a bujo. But hey do what works for you. The butterfly may come back later.
I did the same, coming into 2021 I sat myself down and went through my older bullet journals and took what worked and got rid of what didn’t. I think that’s why my 2021 journal so far is working 10x better then my 2019 one. It’s my original own ideas it’s simple it works for me it looks nice (for me) so I’m actually using it.
Thank you for sharing your experience and being realistic about all this. This is what I love about your channel. 💕 My advice for others and myself is to always start with Ryder Carroll’s principles and go from there. Even when I’ve been away from my bujo for some time, I always return to the basics to pick up the pace again. Doing everything at the same time can be overwhelming. BuJo is a toolkit, and you take whatever tools you need. We should remember that nobody no one else has to look at it, or even know it exists. It’s supposed to serve a purpose in your life, not make it more difficult. Keeping up with your journal every day doesn’t even need to take more than 15 minutes a day. Literally, all you need is a pen and paper to begin. And that’s what I want everybody to know first. I wish more people knew this and that the market would stop pitching this exclusive and unapproachable idea about bullet journaling, because so many that could benefit from the method miss out when they think they couldn’t possibly keep up with it. If you want to be artistic and that motivates you to plan, that’s another thing, but forcing it on others is so wrong.
After I tried and failed with bullet journaling, I went through bunch of layouts and finally created one that suited my requirements! - two pages - weekly to do spread - noting down things I'll do each day and perhaps filling out anything I'm scheduled to do later in the week. This was so much simpler (actually this is really just a to do list, but I include some basic daily tasks like reading, dusting bed etc) and so convenient!!
I’ve only bullet journaled for a year but this year I’ve decided to use my billet journal as a sketchbook and a regular journal ( writing about my day feelings etc.) pretty much just a dump zone for fun 😭
Same I’m just gonna have something to dump random stuff though I’ll probably keep sketches in my sketchbook. I like the bullet journals basic idea of keeping things in a list/collection so I’m going to keep doing that but it won’t be like a normal/common bullet journal.
Well that's the beauty of Bujo, Index works as the archive. When you bored with to do list and want to use it as brain dump. Just write the number of page where you change on Index, done.
Jazzy's messy as f*ck bullet journal looks neater than my neat bullet journal lol But, It's sad that she won't be doing anything related to bujo now, but after she explained why she's quitting, she opened my eyes! Social media can be a somewhat toxic place when you have been surrounded by people who tell you what they "expect from you" But tbh, I'm tearing up! The bujo queen is leaving😭❤️
i swear any bullet journal beginners needs to see this. the fact that i relate almost all of these after bullet journaling for years makes me think that i'm not the only one lol
@Bryce Mitchell's Drilled Nut this is not about the comment, but about how the person misgendered you. Personally i call everyone bro, regardless of the gender, so i don’t think they where assuming your gender or trying to misgender you on purpose
something i love about jasmine’s videos is how genuine & refreshing they are. a lot of other youtubers have jump cuts every 2 seconds which comes off as disingenuous sometimes. ( idk maybe that’s just me ) whereas it feels like im just catching up with a friend when i watch her videos
I used to be so performative with my bujos, but this year i decided that i needed to actually plan instead of wasting time trying to make it instagram worthy, so i am making it a minimalistic bujo this year! I still use colors, and have a couple cutesy lil doodles and stuff in it, but I'm so excited to make it more functional!!!! It's so much more simple and less time consuming, i love it. I got rid of all of the "cute trackers" that i literally never use and just do it simply
I appreciate this video so much! I have been trying to set up bullet journals these past few years, but always failed horribly. So this year, all I did was grab a decent notebook, a pen, a pencil and just started writing - no fancy spreads, not even a monthly spread, just wrote down my goals, another page for my exercise routine and another for my tasks for the week. Then I wrote down what I needed to do that day. I could smudge and wreck everything, but it wouldn't matter, because I'd just need it to write stuff down when I needed to organise myself a bit more. And can I just say, I'm a very creative person, who loves to make a lot of things very pretty, but this has been working so far and I'm really not inclined to add any prettiness to it any time soon. I'm not going to show it to anyone or worry about it. Just use it to become a better person!
Delete social media y’all, it just sells you things you don’t need. Focus on yourself, do what you actually need, and pursue the things you enjoy, not the things you think people think you should
@@karib9462 yeah it’s not always possible. But all the major social medias are specifically designed to rewire you for instant gratification, companies collect data and sell you things you don’t need, and it disturbs the sense of self the more you use it.
Rather than deleting them I think we should learn how to manage them I personally have an Instagram account that I use for some of my closest friends and I go there maybe once a month ? For like 5 minutes and then I leave bc it gets boring way too easily I tried making an insta account where I posted pictures of study stuff and all but it kinda felt like a chore after 10 days so I just quit within a month- And I used to go there a lot, like a few hours per day for some time It eventually gets better once you want to stop
I deleted my instagram the summer of last year and honestly, I’ve felt so much better. I don’t have to worry about what I am posting and wonder if this is gonna get x amount of likes etc. I feel less stressed and less tired than before.
I also gain insights from her because my bujo is typically more on writing about "my day" because it serves as an outlet for me to write my experiences. I love how she says function over fashion coz literally it made me realize that bujo isn't just about aesthetic, it's about self expression! Love you jasmine!
The great thing about many different planning ways is the fact that everyone can chose the best for them. For me bullet journal is the best thing that happened in my productivity journey, some people hate it, prefer digital and that's ok!
This is the most honest bullet journal tips ever.!I've been bullet journaling for 2 years now and as a guy who is not artistic I would rather have function over the aesthetics. Artsy bujos are hard to manage but to each his/her own.
I totally agree! I’ve been trying to start bullet journaling but soon I realized I can’t do all of those tasks in just a few days and honestly seeing all of those Aesthetic bullet journal spreads really makes u want to buy lots of unnecessary stuff and stationery which is why I don’t bullet journal.
i am new to journaling and i bought a lot of markers and planning to buy again a lot of washi tapes, brushpens and everything but then gladly i watched this video!! everything u said is true and it makes sense. i was pressured by everything i see on social media especially that i love to watch stationary haul videos which made me wanna buy a lot! but after watching this, i realized that i shouldn't focused on what i see on the social media because everything is just for hype and i can still make my journal beautiful and creative without so much stationaries. thanks! 💖
i who spent all my allowance on stationery during 8th grade, and never finished a bullet journal from cover to cover with a bunch of unfinished spreads :))
I just started bujo during the Quarantine but i never copy everything that has to be placed on the journal....i just included the things that works for me.... At first i included the Mood Tracker but sad to say it didn't work for me so i had to take it down.... My journal is simple and too few compared to others... I dont feel the need to include all the items others have coz i know i wont be able to fill it in.... I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the BEAUTIFUL journals people make that's why i had to step back and just do things my way....
@@jhenneferrodrigues3605 that is soooo true.... Only include the routines or trackers that u are habitually doing.... i sometimes even feel a bit lazy though filling it up.... I hope i am not the only one! Hahahahahhahah
I tried the mood tracker alongside my March monthly overview but that’s definitely not for me. I typically don’t look at my Bujo twice a day so trying to track my morning and afternoon mood didn’t mesh well with me. However, I’ve been trying to keep up a daily gratitude journal (list 1 thing I’m grateful for per day) bc I’ve noticed I’m very negative 😅😬 that one is definitely hard for me but I’m hoping it will help change my mindset from half empty to half full! I think it’s nice to have the gratitude journal so if I’m having a sad day I can read back on what I was grateful for the previous day ☺️ but I love the flexibility of trying something and ditching it if it doesn’t work
I relate so much to this! I cannot draw or do calligraphy, but I do like to write. Bullet journaling works for me, because I don't have to deal with a prestructured planner that has all kinds of features I don't need. I need a monthly, a brain dump, a 'when did I last...' page and then dailies and notes. No habit trackers, no weekly overview, no reflection or goals pages, etc. I love watching bullet journaling videos, but I realized pretty quickly they are not really about bullet journaling or even planning. More about aesthetics (which is why I love to watch them). And yes, I do wish I could make beautiful spreads, but I also know I wouldn't keep up with them. I watch lots of videos on other planning systems too, the ringplanner-community for instance. I watch people having massive sections of just dashboards and pretty papers and it's not about planning anymore or how that system works for them. It's kind of sad, it seems like all people are doing nowadays is featuring as many #notsponsored items from all the shops, instead of just planning. I am getting sick of all the C&P features, the obscure Etsy shops that sell one particular sticker sheet. Sorry for ranting. I admire your bravery and am very curious where next you'll take your channel. Subscribed, just to find out!
Thank you. This is my third year bullet journaling, and I’ve been feeling down because I never stick with it. I now know that that’s because I’ve been jumping in. I try to do these elaborate spreads and they always fail, and now I know I have to work my way up.
Love your honesty! I've never been a fan of BuJo. It's too much work and it feels like a commitment rather than enjoyment. I prefer a pretty planner with monthly calendar, weekly pages and lots and lots of empty space for whatever. It's more practical to me that way. ;)
woah it’s been 5 years :0 some other people and I have literally watch you grow up, it’s so cool! I’ve always loved your videos, and you inspired me to get my life in order. thank you, jasmine!
A method that works really well if are just starting to bullet journal is to look at some inspiration and simplify I mean cut out all the unnecessary stuff and limit the doodles to suit your needs all you really need is some pencils, highlighters or markers, black pen, ruler and a book that's all you need. Basically, just take a standard journal format and kinda add a little bit of your own personality to it to add some colour and that's really all you need to do. you don't have to go all out because in the long run it's for planning not a doodle competition!
When i started bujo, i did everything there is on pinterest and 5 years later i find myself only writing montly and weekly spreads with my black gel pen that i use for all of my writing and some cheap stickers. Minimum effort brought the best results, espesially when you don't have much time
I felt the performative pressure SO much. Since I've stopped bullet journaling and started using a regular planner + Powersheets, I've been far more productive and I've felt so much more at peace. It sounds so silly, but it's just been a huge breath of fresh air. Every so often I'll try to go back but just realize it's not the best for my lifestyle anymore. You are totally not alone!
i use a mossery planner and although they're kinda expensive they're really cute and functional! Worked amazingly for me as a way to plan my life and day, I love em
I rarely comment on TH-cam videos but your honesty in this video is such a breath of fresh air! I've tried bullet journaling in the past and adored the spreads you posted on IG and your TH-cam plan with me videos, but after a while, I found it didn't work for me and thinking back, I wholeheartedly agree with your tips. Thank you for sharing with us how you've been feeling and love that you're starting this journey to finding what works for you! Cheers to being your authentic self here on this channel and here's to hoping you'll find a planning method that again helps spark joy for you!
anytime i feel unmotivated and depressed i find myself coming to this channel for lots of reasons. you come off very honest and trustworthy on your opinions. you have great notes that are simple and have an easy format that also look aesthetically pleasing which is great. lastly you inspire me to try in school and wake up and try my best. thankyou for helping me make it through my junior/senior year. im glad you are doing what you feel is best for you with bullet journaling. once again, inspiring 💕
I had similar experiences with bullet journaling, mine was much less consistent and took many different forms until I decided I want to go digital! I like that I can take my planner with me now and move the tasks or anything freely, keeping up with everything is easier. My approach now is a monthly planner in my OneNote notebook. I can see the whole month at one glance and plan the days individually when I zoom in. I didn't skip a day last month, that's a miracle! I think whatever you choose to do, it's important to experience it and adapt it to your needs.
I’ve tried bullet journalling for over a year now. At first i did those ‘fancy’ kind of bujo as seen on the studygrams and pinterest and honestly those are fun at first but very unpractical as a lot of time is used for drawing the spreads every month. After adapting the organising method to my own preference, i personally think that mood trackers and habit trackers aren’t necessary in bujo as they could be easily done in apps. Now, my ‘bujo’ is just me planning my month and list my to dos as simple and as easy to understand as i can because i cant find any planners i like on the market. Time management/organisations should be practical, not presentable. Fancy bujo just makes us use more time on planning things than actually doing the thing we need to do.
Watching this feeling like bullet journaling is putting me under so much stress lately combined with studies. I've been doing it for 1 and a half year already and definitely feel like it's more of a chore and something I have to do because I don't want to skip a month including the aesthetic work I have to put in. I usually have to use a whole day to just do 1-2 pages with all the drawings and end up extremely stressed at the end of the month. I always want it ready by the 1st the following month so it's kind of like a deadline I have to finish before more important tasks. I don't even open it up to use it everyday, only like once a week. I think I'm going back to the basics though, because I want to finish the journal itself before going on to pre-made planners instead. Thank you so much for this video
I love and use the BASICS of bullet journal. I use a regular daily moleskine at work and migrate tasks. No index, no collections. Just open tasks, migration and done. Revision is very important, something most bullet journalers seem to forget to mention. Aestethics just don't work when you have to think and work fast but migration and revision are the most useful tools I've learned with bullet journal.
Kpop merch is more expensive and also more useless than stationary. But at least you can sell the albums and merch when you're bored of them - like I and many others have done
Even though I am very new to planning and bullet journalling, I have watching your videos for a while now. It sometimes feels like such a burden to be aesthetically pleasing in all my spreads and I love that you were so honest about this whole experience. We love you, unni!
I don’t do bullet journaling I just have a bunch of random journals but I do get a lot of inspiration from bullet journals and I like to do my own version of spreads/lists.
I personally love bullet journaling! It’s the calm in my storm of the world. It allows my creative side to run wild and to remind my brain that everything is together! Great video!!
Thanks for inspiring us all to try our best in school :) And, as long as you are enjoying what content you make, I know I'll be happy (and I hope others will too)
I found it helpful, to actually draw the tables, weekly and monthly log, and all the stuff not every month, but in the first week of actually getting a bujo.
I've never been able to get into bullet Journaling. I was never able to keep up the habit of it. Which why I stopped I realized I like it better as like Journal/diary and like scrapbooking type thing.
I love how honest you were. You could've lost so many subscribers from this- but you didn't. I think it's super inspiring that you have that kind of courage to be yourself, despite what some people will say about you.
The one with the stationary buying really resonated with me. I bought too much stuff too and now it's just laying around, collecting dust. :D Love that you are honest about why you are quitting.
This is why I've been watching a lot of bullet journal videos so I can see what actually applies to me before I just dive in and do things that I know I'll never use for my first time. Also some are just inspiring with the art or things they use to make it look like a work of functional art.
It’s interesting, I realized these things too in just my second year of bullet journaling. I just didn’t have as much fun bc it started feeling like a chore but hey I gotta fill up my last pages before I quit bullet journaling so nothing goes to waste lol
The biggest strength of a bujo imo is its flexibility, and yeah, while a lot of the online social media stuff around it is great for community and ideas and so on, much of what is considered a "must-have if you wanna do a proper journal" is kinda antithetical to that. I totally get what you're saying. At the end of the day, some people need more structure than what a bujo provides, while others really chafe under that same structure of a more traditional planner; we're all different, and that's pretty neat, honestly! Whatever works best to organize your particular brain is just best, full-stop. 😊 Keep on keeping on, everybody!
social media is so toxic. i started bullet journalling 4 years ago and have been watching ur channel for agess, but when i realised i could not make it 'aesthetic' as my favourite creators could, i quit and lacked motivation to follow up on spreads and use them for its purpose. your video really resonated with me and i support u always jasmine 😊
I really appreciate your honesty in your videos, and your efforts to not take part in excessive consumerism and performative culture. Your practicality is refreshing. :)
I came up with the same pool analogy a few minutes ago trying to properly convey how much I appreciate a particular video that actually felt helpful and manageable to begin an "official" Bullet Journal.
I dunno if this was intentional or not, but you seem to have some “blur this” parts that aren’t... blurred? Thank you for all of your inspiration for bujo through the years!
I’ve been bullet journaling for a year and JUST found your channel. I’m so excited that you are giving yourself permission to experiment and get back to doing things just because they inspire and interest you. Even though I just found you as you’re moving on to other thing (at least for now), I will gladly stick around! I also follow a variety of creative people doing all kinds of different things, and I love to experiment with my own processes. Best wishes for a fun 2021!
Notion and a lot of other software like that see a lot of your personal data, which to me, is extra worrying compared to social media platforms seeing your info because you write everything you do and everywhere you’ll be in an app like Notion. I’d just make sure to do your privacy checks if you switch to digital planning
I started journaling when I was 12 years old (13 years ago!) because it helped ease my anxiety and keeps me on track with my agenda. I did journaling for 4-5 years until I became so obsessed with it to the point where it wasn't fun anymore, not to mention time-consuming cause I wanted it to look very aesthetic etc, it's getting emotionally unhealthy for me. I do somehow keep my to-do list, meal plan, and budget plan as they're very beneficial for me to get along with my jobs sometimes.
This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and I'm really glad I clicked. I've been looking into bullet journaling this past week after hearing someone mention it in my therapy group, and it's been kind of intimidating. I've found a few vlogs and blogs like yours that are very supportive of minimalism and only using what might actually be helpful to each individual. This has really encouraged me to give bullet journaling a shot! I really liked this video because you were so open and honest, and I'm so happy for you. Whenever I see creators on any platform saying that what they're doing just doesn't bring them joy anymore, doesn't spark inspiration, or they've lost their motivation, it makes me sad. Not because they've stopped whatever it is, but because they've felt like they need to force themselves to do something. If you feel like you need to change the way you journal, you should do it! Explore and have fun! Bullet journaling isn't going anywhere. You can switch back whenever you want. Or don't. It's your journal, and you should do what feels right for you. I wish you all the best and hope that you find what makes you happiest.
For people who don’t enjoy or benefit from these artsy bujo with a bajillion “ spreads “ and other filller pages: Look at bujo video by pickuplimes or rowena tsai on TH-cam. I used to feel the same way till I watched their video and it finally clicked. It helps that the TH-camrs I mentioned are not primarily bujo channels, they are just trying to use it functionally. Now I can finally consistently use my bujo for 1+ years and it brings me function, productivity and joy.
I’ve been doing my version of bullet journaling since 2016. My supplies are: 1. a cheap graph composition notebook. I like the 5x5 quad version. 100 sheets. 2. Paper Mate flair black medium felt tip pens. 3, Colored hi-liters. 4. Eraser tape. 5. Ruler. 6. Washi tape. 7. HP sprocket mini photo printer.. I use my BuJo as an annual planner. I fit the whole year in one notebook. I may draw in the white space or add stickers, pics or whatever I feel like adding. I’ve tried different spreads but I’ve settled into a system that’s working for me. My set-up is simple. Title page, index divided into 2 columns (planner pages and collection pages), Future Log, Annual Goals for various areas of my life. Action Steps for each goal, Unfinished Business from prior year, Some Day/Maybe list, Monthly spread, weekly spreads, Monthly, weeklies, etc.. planned for the whole year. Then collections - which tend to be resources or project pages for my annual goals. I play with lettering and drop shadows as time permits. I enjoy this style of planning and I accomplish a lot.
Ever since I started bullet journaling in 2016 my goal was never to be perfect. I started with the mindset that I was starting a new skill and that practice is key in every skill. Through the years I've heard myself being more and more condecending about my bullet journals and now I've reduced it from having yearly, monthly, weekly and daily overviews with different kinds of habit trackers and what not to just be monthly and weekly. I'm already feeling so free knowing that my current bullet journal will last me at least a year and a half. Thank you for this video, so many great ideas. Wish I had this when I started!
When I started my bujo I did the "take the stairs" step and it really helped! I also just posted a new video showing my semester overview for university!
I loved seeing you flip through all of your journals and seeing all of the different spreads that I've seen you set up in videos. I've been following you since sometime in 2017, so seeing how your journaling style has changed is really interesting. this video has honestly inspired me to look more into starting my own bullet journal- kind of simplifying the process, I guess. so thank you!
I discovered bullet journaling many many years ago when I was trying to find a system that worked for me as pre-made planners weren’t enough. However after many years of creating my own bullet journals I’ve gone back to my pre-made journals and I love it so much! The pressure of making a bullet journal so aesthetically pleasing became so toxic that I found myself neglecting to even use it. Do and use what works for you, don’t worry about how pretty it looks
I felt this at some point last year. I started using the Hobonichi Techo planner this year and it feels nice to have a planner where every day already has its own page, and its formatted in a way that works for me. Now I just focus on writing down what I need to do and what I've done. Best of luck to you in the future! It can be really exciting and fun to switch things up!
One thing that bothers me a bit about the bullet journal community, is the level of spending on materials, your notebook already comes with a sheet in perfect condition for you to write and draw but for the same reason that is mentioned in the video, the performance , is that it bothers me to see that they put thousands of layers of small parts of other colored or patterned sheets so that in the end they do not even write on them. I have no problems with stickers or washitapes but putting paper on top of another paper to not even write and then throwing away the leftovers does not make me very eco-friendly. You waste paper and whole notebooks.
honestly, i think its really admirable that you were so honest! you have always been such an inspiration to me and despite the fact that i loved your bujo videos, i think your channel has come so far and i love all of your videos + 5 years is a long time! i still love you ♡
I've migrated my so called "bullet journal" into this crazy spread of personal diary, todo lists, art journal, and brain dump that I love updating everyday.
This 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I've been planning to start a bullet journal this year, continuing my work towards a better lifestyle and perseverance that I started in 2019.
I feel like that's exactly what's so wonderful about a bullet journal! The absolute customizability.
same! i started journaling with kpop journaling and bullet journaling. now i just cistomized it and it's a bunch of random spreads, art journal and a personal diary ^^ messy spreads bring me the most joy to make :D
Guys, there is no shame in going to Target and buying a premade planner... I think
Yes, I agree. But when you do it by yourself you feel like a therapeutic thing I think
true, but idk why i can't use premade planner XD i fell like i was told what to write by those planner lol even tho my bujo are very minimalist and i rarely decor it
@@welm8412 That's why I love my hobonichi. There are yearly, monthly, weekly layouts and then daily pages, which I use as my bullter journal/personal journalling/to-do lists. Highly recommend. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need a fancy leather cover, though. SO EXPENSIVE.

@@emmaphilpott oooh nice, i might look into it. thanks
Thank you!
This is something that I (and a lot of other people too) needed to hear
Same!!!! I'm doing this for the last 5 or 6 years and it's best honestly.
@@tiapimental9550 You should try out Plum Paper Design, Their planners are quite customizable.
I switched from bullet journaling to a paper planner. More expensive but way more useful

I watched your bullet journaling video yesterday 😭
yes I agreeeee also btw I love your videos they keep me motivatedddd
Hi there seo !!
I love you both ❤️😁
When I read The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Caroll, I was really inspired by how simple the system is. Sadly, most of the bujo spreads I see online are more decorative than functional. I have yet to find an account that does a simple bullet journal like the author.
Update: I am now bullet journaling for 2022 and keeping it minimal ❤️
Did you start bullet Journaling then ? Did It work for you?
I had a planner then and I tried bujo on the side but I couldn’t stick with it because I needed the premade layouts to motivate me

I appreciate how you showed the blank, imperfect, or incomplete pages in your journals. It’s important to show the reality of improvement to give others a realistic guide to follow
i always used to get annoyed at myself for not getting into bullet journaling because it was shown to be so amazing but it’s okay to just accept that some things just aren’t for you
Just buy a planner it's easier
I've also been bullet journaling since 2016, last year I quitted, too much perfection required. This year I finally realized that f* perfection, so now I use the original bujo method, as simple as possible, only 2 pens (1 black, 1 red), no spreads, not even a weekly spread, I just plan it day by day, and it's been really helpful for me
Forgot to mention, I'm a designer, making things pretty is literally my job, but some things just work better doing plain simple
Keeping it simple seems to be the best way. All these aesthetic tricks and touches are just productivity traps.
@@GabrielaCambuhy , yeah! 👏😊
It happened to me as well so I changed my way of journaling,I removed the weekly spreads and it got better! Do what works for you :)

Things Pinterest tells you are essential to bullet journaling: the nicest journal on the market, all the pens, all the mildliners, all the tombows, all the washi tape, all the stickers
Things I actually use regularly when bullet journaling: decent dot grid journal, pencil, thin black pen, thick black pen, ruler😂😂
exactly. bujo is so basic and functional but i see so many people put aesthetics first and then ultimately forget about functionality
Agree on this on a spiritual level 😂I'm not rich to buy all of those cute stationery I won't use but I did buy a lot because I thought that is the standard 😅
Now I just use a normal black pen and black sign pen to shade and tick off boxes lol
That, or learn about scrapbooking
Exactly. Its just a brain dump with some icons. One thing I notice with the creative bullet journals is that I don't see much in the way of a system like the original. Often times people make pages that mirror traditional planners, and use them as traditional planners. Its kind of muddied the waters a bit.
I just have a notebook where i do everything, its a cool idea for artsy people because you can make bj spreads, daily writing, drawings and art
what ive learned from 5 years of attempting to journal, I have to save myself the money and stop buying new journals if only keep up journaling for a couple days each year LOL

On the contrary, I am coming back to bujo. I did quit it in 2020 since I wanted to try some Japanese planner. Since WFH, everything became a blur without a space to spill my mind and track my habits, which I usually make for a bujo. But hey do what works for you. The butterfly may come back later.
that’s amazing, i’m glad bujo works for you now! who knows, maybe i’ll discover that bujo is my one true love once i leave it haha
My advice for others and myself is to always start with Ryder Carroll’s principles and go from there.
If you want to be artistic and that motivates you to plan, that’s another thing, but forcing it on others is so wrong.
thank you for sharing your advice!
After I tried and failed with bullet journaling, I went through bunch of layouts and finally created one that suited my requirements!
- two pages
- weekly to do spread
- noting down things I'll do each day and perhaps filling out anything I'm scheduled to do later in the week.
This was so much simpler (actually this is really just a to do list, but I include some basic daily tasks like reading, dusting bed etc) and so convenient!!
I’ve only bullet journaled for a year but this year I’ve decided to use my billet journal as a sketchbook and a regular journal ( writing about my day feelings etc.) pretty much just a dump zone for fun 😭
same! i basically just use my journal to decorate and write abt my day and sometimes i put in a to do list lol
Same I’m just gonna have something to dump random stuff though I’ll probably keep sketches in my sketchbook. I like the bullet journals basic idea of keeping things in a list/collection so I’m going to keep doing that but it won’t be like a normal/common bullet journal.
Nothing wrong with that.
Well that's the beauty of Bujo, Index works as the archive. When you bored with to do list and want to use it as brain dump. Just write the number of page where you change on Index, done.
1 sentence a day: knees hurt
i felt that
Jazzy's messy as f*ck bullet journal looks neater than my neat bullet journal lol
But, It's sad that she won't be doing anything related to bujo now, but after she explained why she's quitting, she opened my eyes! Social media can be a somewhat toxic place when you have been surrounded by people who tell you what they "expect from you"
But tbh, I'm tearing up!

Focus on yourself, do what you actually need, and pursue the things you enjoy, not the things you think people think you should
I'd love to, but I use Instagram to contact friends
@@coolfool183 Thats not always possible and not all social media is bad, it depends on YOU and how YOU use it
@@karib9462 yeah it’s not always possible. But all the major social medias are specifically designed to rewire you for instant gratification, companies collect data and sell you things you don’t need, and it disturbs the sense of self the more you use it.
Rather than deleting them I think we should learn how to manage them
I personally have an Instagram account that I use for some of my closest friends and I go there maybe once a month ? For like 5 minutes and then I leave bc it gets boring way too easily
I tried making an insta account where I posted pictures of study stuff and all but it kinda felt like a chore after 10 days so I just quit within a month-
And I used to go there a lot, like a few hours per day for some time
It eventually gets better once you want to stop
I deleted my instagram the summer of last year and honestly, I’ve felt so much better. I don’t have to worry about what I am posting and wonder if this is gonna get x amount of likes etc. I feel less stressed and less tired than before.
I also gain insights from her because my bujo is typically more on writing about "my day" because it serves as an outlet for me to write my experiences. I love how she says function over fashion coz literally it made me realize that bujo isn't just about aesthetic, it's about self expression! Love you jasmine!

I dont feel the need to include all the items others have coz i know i wont be able to fill it in.... I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the BEAUTIFUL journals people make that's why i had to step back and just do things my way....
This was my experience exactly
Exactly! For me this is the idea of bullet journaling: put in there what is really useful for your routine and needs
I think it’s nice to have the gratitude journal so if I’m having a sad day I can read back on what I was grateful for the previous day ☺️ but I love the flexibility of trying something and ditching it if it doesn’t work
Yeah I have a walking tracker. It forces me to walk so I could fill out my journal lol. But like you said, just what works for you
I relate so much to this!

Love your honesty! I've never been a fan of BuJo. It's too much work and it feels like a commitment rather than enjoyment. I prefer a pretty planner with monthly calendar, weekly pages and lots and lots of empty space for whatever. It's more practical to me that way. ;)

I'm honestly glad that you chose to quit instead of continuing something you don't enjoy! Honestly, great job!!

This is why I've been watching a lot of bullet journal videos so I can see what actually applies to me before I just dive in and do things that I know I'll never use for my first time. Also some are just inspiring with the art or things they use to make it look like a work of functional art.
Same thing! I ended up making a list of spreads I think will work best for me, that way I'm not going overboard. ^_^
I felt the same way! So I quit bulletjournaling and moved onto digital planning 💛
social media is so toxic. i started bullet journalling 4 years ago and have been watching ur channel for agess, but when i realised i could not make it 'aesthetic' as my favourite creators could, i quit and lacked motivation to follow up on spreads and use them for its purpose. your video really resonated with me and i support u always jasmine 😊
My planner is just literally a f*cked up one at the back of an unused subject notebook, and I freaking love and satisfied with it.
I really appreciate your honesty in your videos, and your efforts to not take part in excessive consumerism and performative culture. Your practicality is refreshing. :)
It’s my 7th month of doing Bullet Journal. I love the book from Ryder Caroll and I only use one pen.
I came up with the same pool analogy a few minutes ago trying to properly convey how much I appreciate a particular video that actually felt helpful and manageable to begin an "official" Bullet Journal.
I dunno if this was intentional or not, but you seem to have some “blur this” parts that aren’t... blurred? Thank you for all of your inspiration for bujo through the years!
lol i noted those down for past flipthroughs but i no longer care
@@studyquill ohh I see! Thank you for answering!
I also quit bullet journaling and now I just keep it simple with a calendar and a daily to-do list. It feels like I actually get more done now.
I enjoy this style of planning and I accomplish a lot.
she looks so pretty in this hnfhhfhfhfnfhfhn also this is gonna be an amazingggg video eep !!
Wish I had this when I started!
it's not even aesthetic anymore haha it's just lines and numbers, very minimal
When I started my bujo I did the "take the stairs" step and it really helped! I also just posted a new video showing my semester overview for university!
Hope you'll get somewhere :)
I am so excited for this new planning adventure you'll go on and to see this journey. :)
Do and use what works for you, don’t worry about how pretty it looks
i havent clicked on a notification so quick in my life,, only jas has this power over me ✨
I felt this at some point last year.
